I suggest taking a good look at the KayFun offerings for your first RBA.
A simple micro coil built to some 1.2 to 1.5 ohms at some 12+ watts will have you vaping like Jagger on your first RBA.

What wick are you wanting to use? For SS mesh I love the AGA T2. I bought one to try before getting a more expensive one. I liked it so much that I bought 2 more. SS mesh wick is the best thing that has happened to me in my 2 1/2 years of vaping.
Kayfuns work great on MVP's as long as you don't build with thicker wire than 28g. I've run 1.3-1.5ohms just fine.
One question. The thread leads you down the path of RTA (Rebuildable Tank Atomizers) but I don't see that in your original post. If you're interested in RDAs (Rebuildable Dripping Atomizers) there are a huge number out there cheaper than a Kayfun. Examples, Igo-L, Igo-W4, Infinite CLT, Big Block 454.
The Igo-L is a dirt cheap single coil which is good to learn on since you have only one coil to build. Price varies, say $10-15. Adjusting the air flow is a one way operation involving a drill bit. The Igo-W/Igo-W4 are dual coil drippers which again, use a drill for air adjustment. Tougher to build because the coils need to match but you'll get the hang of it quickly. The CLT supports dual or quad coils, and you spin the cap to adjust the air flow. It also has features like copper center pin, heat fins, etc and runs around $30. The Big Bore 454 supports single, dual or quad coils, is made in the USA, has excellent flavor and vapor production and runs about $70.
The real KayFun is over $100 though its been a while since I priced one but has clones available in the 30-40 dollar range. Unlike the drippers, it has a tank that holds your juice.

Check out the Mutation X RDA too. It's kinda like a TOBH but with a lot more airflow.
