So I just got my first dripper and I absolutely love it. My next purchase is going to be an rba. I've heard a lot of people recommend the kayfun and Taifun. Anyone who owns an RBA could give me pros and cons of their purchases and I would greatly appreciate it. I will probably end up buying a clone, so if you've purchased a clone and it's turned out to be great, let me know. I'm still new to building coils so I would like to avoid any RBAs that require expertise.

Also, I would like to know what gauge wire you guys recommend, and how silica compares to cotton.

Thanks all in advance.

bm2112 I ended up with about 15 RBA clones in my short addiction with this hobby some are clones some authentics I have Russian 91s, KFL + V2s, Kayfun 3.1, Fogger V4, and now a Taifun GT. My recommendation to you would be to try one of each.

1.) Taifun GT $24.99 Angelcigs.com
2.) Ivogo Kayfun 3.1 $24.99 Angelcigs.com
3.) Fogger V4.1 (PLUS newest version) www.sweet-vapes.com $29.99
4.) EhPro Kayfun Lite Plus V2 $29.99 www.fluidvapes.com

The EhPro Kayfun is the best clone I have found out of the several I tried and the Kayfun 3.1 by ivogo is an amazing clone as well. If I had to do it all over again these are the 4 I would have picked 1 of each to get started I have about 14 others different brand etc.... can't go wrong with an authentic Russian 91 but you can basically get all 4 of what I mentioned for the price of an authentic.

Quick pros and cons I found with each or what I think of them compared to others.

1.) Taifun GT my newest addition first build I put into it Micro coil w/cotton I have no leaks or dryhits it just worked really impressed so far flavor and vapor is basically same as the Kayfun IMO. Medium air draw and non adjustable
2.) Kayfun 3.1 once you learn how to fill it properly this beats out the KFL+s IMO the airflow is the reason you can get a very loose draw it's adjustable
3.) Fogger v4 Dual coil it's a beast once you learn how to wick it puts out more vapor and on par flavor as Kayfun burns through juice faster. Can get a very open air draw as well and adjustable
4.) KFL+ V2 similar air draw to the taifun a little on the tight draw side but not too tight great flavor good vapor.

Try the Fogger V4. The airflow goes from completely shut to wide open. In fact, it's the only tank (Not counting genesis attys that I've drilled out) that I like the airflow on. Fairly simple to build on, standard dual coil setup that gives great flavor and vapor production. I've used a Kayfun... Wasn't really my style. Seemed to get a lot of dry hits, and was waaaay too hot of vapor. Also, the airflow on it was pretty restricted even with the airflow screw completely out (which may have contributed to the dry hits). If you haven't tried a genesis atty, get something like the RSST. A lot of people prefer genesis style rebuildables to the others, so that might be better for you. A little harder to build on (stainless steel can be a pain) but the results are worth it.

As far as kanthal gauges go... That's going to depend a lot on what ohm range you're wanting. I really like 26g personally, haven't tried anything bigger (lower gauge) tho. My go-to setups are dual coil, and with 26g I can easily get .3-.6Ω which is my "sweet spot". If you were looking for 1Ω+ to fire on a regulated mod, I'd go with 28 or 30g depending on if it's single or dual coil. Or if you like twisted coils, you might wanna pick up some 32g to play around with. It's all up to you :p Just order every size from 26-32 and find what you like.

Also, if you like drippers you might wanna just keep dripping... Try something like the Magma or Origen with huge juice wells, it's all the joy of dripping but with 1ml capacity so you don't gotta drip nearly as often as with something like an IGO.

For sub-ohming is using thicker/thinner wire important? And why would I be disappointed? Vapor production? I don't necessarily need to cloud chase with an RBA. I just want something that vapes a little better than a pre-built coil.

You wont be disappointed see above ^^^^

Yes, wire thickness is important.

subohming is a misnomer.
Using thicker wire makes bigger clouds, requires more power but results in lower ohms (subohm), which brings you closer to danger.

I recommend you go with a Kayfun Lite Plus from EhPro. The standard version is great, and the newer version (v2) is great too. I like the drip tip on the original version better, but the airflow control is better on the newer version. You can get them in different colors (black, silver, gold, rose gold, and blue).

The Kayfun Lite Plus gives me better flavor than drippers do. You don't need to go sub-ohm on a Kayfun. I use either 26 or 28 gauge Kanthal wire with anywhere from nine to eleven wraps, on a 2.66 or 2.33 mm bit (Micro Puck jig), and organic cotton to wick. So far, the Kayfun Lite Plus from EhPro has given me the best vape compared to anything else!

Thinner wire (higher gauge) has more resistance, so it's harder to get sub ohm with higher gauges. Thicker wire is the opposite... For example, in my fogger I have both coils as 12 wraps of 26g around a 14g needle... It's coming to ~.65Ω. If I were to do the same thing with 28g, I'd probably be in the 1Ω area. With 30g, that'd put me at ~ 1.5Ω. 32g, 2.2Ω. Hopefully that makes sense :p

As for why you would be disappointed switching to an RTA after using a dripper, in general drippers perform better. There's a certain amount of flavor/vapor you give up to have the convenience of using a tank. Granted, a lot of that comes down to the build and your expertise, but there's still a difference. That's part of why I recommended the fogger... With the airflow as it is, you can get very similar to a dripper quality but with a 3ml+ tank (depending on which version you get). In some ways I prefer the fogger, since it doesn't seem to heat up like my drippers do (as in where the topcap gets scorching hot). Though any way you go... Any rebuildable will out perform a pre-built coil hands down. Hell, you can even take your kanger coils and rebuild them... You'll still get better quality from the rebuilt one than from the stock coil.

personally for me I find better flavor from RBAs then any of my drippers for the simple fact that I only get good flavor when I mouth to lung and that doesn't usually happen with drippers... Straight lung inhales don't do much for me as far as flavor aiming a reduced drip tip on my tounge and then mouth to lung is where I really get my Flava flav
