Got a Sky Cig and kinda hate it, would another model be that much different?

Considering how many people seem to be in love with vaping I guess I was just expecting... more. The Sky Cig was very meh, left me still kinda craving a roll up and generally just feeling like it's not the same (although this feeling dissipated a little after a few days). Here are the main issues:

1) Not keen on the throat hit - when I do smoke I'm a serious smoker and can smoke 20+ roll ups unfiltered a day and even that doesn't give me as strong a throat sensation as this e cig, it's kind of uncomfortable and for me unrealistic.

2) The cartridges last nowhere near as long as I expected and neither does the battery before it needs charging again, I tend to vape hard to get the equivalent amount of smoke I would get from a roll up and before I know it it needs charging again. I could not use cartridges like that, it would actually cost me less to smoke (I smoke rolling tobacco not fags).

3) Vapour - tend to have to pull harder than I'd like to get the amount of vapour I want.

3) Flavours not so great or strong for that matter. I would like a strong realistic tobacco flavour. The sky cig starter kit came with a classic tobacco, crown tobacco and menthol, the classic was the best of a mediocre bunch.

So any recommendations (UK based)? Is another model likely to alleviate a lot of my issues? The Sky Cig actually broke 4 days in so I'm getting rid of it regardless.

Thanks

It is just better to move to a refillable unit. An Ego is a simple, and cost effective way to get started on one. And if you have a local vape shop near by, having someone walk you through the process to moving into vaping in person just can't be beat. There is a lot of info online, and in this forum, but it was nice for me to have someone in front of me explaining everything there was to know to get started.

If the throat hit is too strong, when you upgrade try using an 18mg or slightly lower strength. I avoid acidic flavors like citrus and menthol as well.

Generally cig a likes don't work too well, as you've discovered. Consider getting Spinner batteries and maybe a Protank, and at least 18mg strength nicotine, maybe even 24mg. You'll discover a while new world of vaping, hang in there mate.

edit, there's PG and VG in eliquid, and is usually shown as a ratio like 60/40 etc. PG gives throat hit and VG gives you vapor. Try a higher VG ratio for a smoother vape.

Hi Sesay,
I'm into my 4th week now and down to 2xrollups/day.
Like you I smoked 41yrs RYO/Drum around 20/day.
I also found almost too much info to take in on here at first so, since when I connect to ECF I get an ad for Volcano Inferno I sent off for a starter kit at £49.99, an extra 4ml carto tank and some extra e-liquid. That saw me through the first 2 1/2 weeks with great success.
The Volcano forum had some very useful videos for a beginner. The different sized batteries lasted me 6hrs/11hrs.
The e-liquid I ordered was at 24mg and I don't get too much, just enough throat hit and plenty of vapour.
The best juice was 50/50 tobacco pure and Hawaian Espresso. Also try LTecigs 'Moors' for a nice tobacco-y flavour.
No experience myself with cig-a-likes but I have seen more than a few comments like yours on here. There is a ton of eqpt around but I wasn't dissatisfied with my starter equipt.
Keep at it and good luck.

Thanks for the advice everyone! - the volcano starter kit is a bit more than I'd like to spend at the moment, I've been considering the riva 1100 or the ego 510 deluxe starter kit, does anyone have experience of these?

Consider getting Spinner batteries and maybe a Protank

What would I need to buy to go with the battery(I'm not really sure how to mix and match this stuff )? And with the protank are there any in particular you'd recommend that I could get in a starter kit for less than £40? This one seems like a bargain Mini Protank Kit but as it's a mini I guess I could have problems with it lasting as long as I'd like...

Also does anyone have a good, cheap VG source or could I use the same glycerin you can get in the baking section at the supermarket?

Tx

I prefer the Ego style with a Kanger T2 tank when I'm not using my Vamo. There is a cheap starter kit here.

eGo 650mah CE4 Kit

Also, I don't know if anyone mentioned that some people are very allergic to PG. If you are it's possible it could feel like a harsh throat hit. You could try a 100% VG juice. I don't use 100% VG so I don't know where you would get it from, but I know its available all over the place.

Protanks have a 510 thread fitting, and all the ego style batteries have both the 510 thread fitting and the ego thread fitting, so a Protank (or a Protank mini) would fit on an ego.

The mini protank kit you have linked to would work ok, but I find that burning a 2.4 ohm head (as per your link) needs a bit more power for a satisfying vape than a standard 650mAh battery can give, so I would either get a variable voltage battery like a Vision Spinner, or I would fit the protank with lower ohm resistance heads. You can buy 1.8 ohm ones which IMHO would perform much better. Regarding capacity you'll probably need to refill a mini around mid afternoon, I tend to vape around 3ml per day, 5ml some days. Your battery life might run out too, a general guide is 100mAh of battery will last an hour, so the one you linked to will prob run out mid afternoon too.

Glycerine is available in the cough medicine aisle at Boots chemist, £1.29 (IIRC) per 200 ml bottle, and it's fine for vaping.

I would suggest this starter kit. I'm glad I had a friend who told me "just buy this". I did and it was a great entry without wasting time trying to figure everything out or spending too much.

Spinner/Twist Ego VV Tank Combo

Any battery choice is fine, but would suggest 900mah or higher.
For the tanks, I would pick the Evods, I've had a better experience with them.

This kit come with a USB charger and AC adapter.

Then all you need is juice.

You will probably find you'll want a few extra clearomizers to make switching flavors easier, bit it's not absolutely necessary to get started.

If you are doing this to quit smoking, I would definitely recommend a 2 battery set up like this one... always have a backup ready.

You may or may not find this combination of items cheaper elsewhere (if so, probably not by much), but I was happy with MVS. Their service is great and they ship very, very fast!

EDIT: sorry I missed the UK part, but still suggest this setup if you can find it locally.
