Forgot to say that yes, I burned it to make sure it burned evenly from the inside out before I wicked, and it did. It did go inside out, but did so very quickly.

1: after you wrap your coil, and screw it down,
when you fire it,
the heat causes expansion of the metal,
and the screws become looser;
at this point you should tighten the screws.

2: you did not mention if you did a dual coil;
jump from 0.8 ohms to 1.5 ohms suggests to me that you did dual coil 1.5 ohm each coil;
1 coil loose leaves just the other coil, so your resistance doubles.

Make sure your coil screws are tightened down well BreilaRose. Resistance going up that much is IMO likely caused by a screw being slightly loose.

I made sure they were tightened a couple of times, but I took it apart and tightened them again, just to be safe. Now it is measuring out at .8 ohm. Go figure.

It seems to be firing fine.

Thanks for all of your help!

1. did that!

2. nope, single coil. I'm at the KISS stage still, LOL

mod does have ohm reader, and I have used steam engine, plus watched multiple vids.

I have wrapped a coil, here I go!
Doh... I missed this.. you should have it built by now.. I was about to say.. the things missing....

nail clippers
scissors
magnet(don't want to step on kanthal clippings.. those hurt like stepping on a needle)
small phillips head screwdriver
Tweezers... (preferably ceramic, but if not, regular ones will do)

and patience is the most important tool.. take your time, make it look right.

Okay, not everything, the ohm reader is due to arrive tomorrow.

But I should just go for it and wrap a coil, right? It can't be that hard?

Right?

If your mod is regulated and will alert when the ohms are too low.

If you are using a mech wait for the ohm reader. Most of the time when people get into trouble it isca mech.

I carry a SMPL mech as a backup to my regulated mod but almost never use it

Okay, help!!!!

I wrapped a coil that should have measured out at .8 ohm according to steam engine, and it did! Yay me!

Until I wicked it and filled the tank. Now it measures 1.5 ohm. What????? Help!!!

I haven't fired it yet, I'm kind of afraid to since it doubled and I don't know why.

ETA: I fired it, and it immediately went to .9 ohm. So, closer, so good.

But what happened?

Sounds like either the reader in the Subox is not accurate or a glitch..

.8-1 ohm is my sweet spot because I can fire it on my Wismec Presa, istick40tc SMPL mech, or even an X6 battery.

Oh yeah, I had wire cutters, a mini screwdriver (that is in the pic), and tweezers. I clipped the wire directly into the rubbish bin, so no worries there.

Do nail clippers clip closer? It seems like they might, with their curved edge. I had trouble getting close enough to the RBA with the wire clippers designed for jewelry.

My ohm meter arrived today. Now I want to build another coil, but I don't know why, LOL. Maybe it is just the desire to play with the new toys?

Go for it. With practice comes understanding and comfort with the technique.

You should have seen my first coil on the omega RDA. It worked but was ONE UGLY COIL.

    Nail Clippers will work.

    If you want to get some wire cutters that cut Closer to the RBA, check out ones that are called "Flush Cut".

    Something like these...

    most of my rebuilding tools come from the cosmetics isle;
    yep, use those nail clippers and those tiny sizzors and whatever clippers and cutters you've got

    Well now, time to get ANOTHER rda! Just so you can wrap another coil while you already have a working one!
