After 4 years of vaping I was frustrated with the quality of various coils for the tanks I use and I got 2 RDA's. I can make coils.. putting in coils no problem. Wicking is another story.. I have tried the various methods it works for a while and then it sucks basically. It is so tedious.. after multiple attempts my trying to get the cotton through and even it is really frustrating. It gets messy and I feel like Im wasting juice sometimes..

Is it worth it to keep going? It takes me forever just to wick the coils.. I have been vaping for years and this is my first effort at RDA's
Wicking is rough RDA/RDTA .. I have watched many videos.. I can get it to work I just feel like Im going through a lot of juice when I get it to work. The taste is better.. sometimes it is messy. It is more work than I though it would be. Maybe I've been buying coils for so many years Im just used to less effort. I started with Kanger protanks 1&2 basically ego stuff.... for a really long time then sub ohm tanks... There is so much out there these days..

Maybe I should just stick with tanks.. So what do you all think stick with the RDA's or go back to what I have been doing for close 2 5 years (tanks)?

It just takes practice and patience and you will get there. Wicking is very subjective. Those tutorial videos will help a lot, but you have to get a feel of what you will eventually like best. I mean, I can say that for me, I wick my coils tight with it being very snug, but not too snug to the point it is wrecking your coils. And i fluff up the cotton and thin it out. Sounds easy, but it took me a while to get the right snugness.

You might want to give rayon a try. I found it easier to work with (haven't used cotton in over a year) and the rayon wicks will last you much longer before you have to re-wick. I can vape a rda/rta for 100 - 150 ml of diy juice with no sweeteners before I re-wick and dry burn the gunk off my SS coils. Rayon Wick - Better Flow, Flavor, Longevity, and Nic Hit!! - Pt.2

RDAs using more juice is normal. I like to wick my RDAs using Japanese organic cotton. I cut a strip for each coil. The width depends on the inner diameter of the coils. I peal off the outside layer of the cotton on both sides and make sure they're not too tight in the coil. I cut the wick ends really short so they just touch the juice well.

Not sure what type of Cotton you are using? But if you are using Bulk Cotton, you might try Pad Cotton. I find it Infinitely Easier to work with.

Just cut a Strip (about a 1/4" wide) Along the Direction of the fibers, De-Skin it, and Twist one end.

I like Muji Pad Cotton. But I'm not a big Cotton Connoisseur.

ETA: Cutting one end of the Cotton Strip into a Point makes it easier to twist it and to get the strip thru the Coil.

I use cotton pads, small squares so it's easy to cut off a consistent amount. To get the cotton through the coil I roll the cotton strip in my fingers to compress the fibers together a bit then wet one end and roll that to a point. After I pull that through with no drag on the coil the cotton expands so there is full contact. I go through 7 ml per day (1% flavoring), rewick twice a week and rebuild every two weeks.

Sounds like you would love a original squanking mod from reosmods. No more ducking problem, no dripping no anything. Slap a good rba on it and vape away issue free.

The original reo grand low profile will fit smaller attys around 16mm or smaller.. the new p67 will fit attys up to 22mm without over hang.

My personal fav setup us a reo grand low profile (lp) super light (sl) with origin little 16 with 30 gauge fused /30 Clapton 2mm 5- 6 wrap.. Comes out to .65-.75ohms.

Been vaping for about 9 years.. tried tanks back when they first hit. Didn't last too long on them before getting fustraighted with wicking issues. Went back to dripping then found bottom fed attys and been squanking for years happily!

RTAs are better these days with them being 25mm in diameter allowing for larger build decks and huge juice channels. I love my RDAs, but I'm sure I will love the Bellus v2 when it arrives tomorrow. :)

Im a bit stumped here. It's literally like threading a large needle with a large thread. Not that that is always easy. just to make sure there isnt something silly going on what process are you following? did you watch a video? which one? where in the process does the problem occur? Is it literally a problem wicking or merely a problem of functionality in the wicked device?

I can get it to work I just feel like Im going through a lot of juice when I get it to work.

The reason, it is like a car the more gas the better it goes. Most RDA users take up DIY liquid quickly. The main tricks to wicking is getting the diameter of the wick right to fit the coil, not too tight or loose. Try not to flood your wick and don't burn it. It takes a little practice but you'll get it. One trick I found to help new guys, is leave skin on the Japanese cotton after halving the thickness, once you master that then start removing the skin if you want to.

Thank you everyone for your reply. Ended up putting all my RDA stuff away. I got it to wick right and enjoyed the better flavor. Unfortunately 3mg nic was way to much for me using an rda. Also, I take meds that normally gives me dry mouth. I have had that before but this really isn't worth it. The new coils I put in my tanks I let soak for 20+ hours it looks like they changed the crown 1 coils because they are lasting longer

    thanks again

Thank You for replying :) I became really good at wicking etc.. I take various medications and for some reason 3mg nic effects me like 12mg nic using an RDA. My hands shake t a while and I feel like ..... I get the appeal of an RDA but its not worth it for me The flavor is a bit better but its not worth feeling sick and feeling like I have nicotine poisoning.
