Hi guys, I'm pretty new to the world of electronic cigarettes. like many people, I first was introduced to the world by a mall kiosk some time ago. If I remember correctly, it was the brand Smoking Everywhere in San Francisco.

Anyways, I decided to try it out after contemplating quitting for a second time (I already quit once). The reason why I wanted to go this route instead of quitting entirely is due to the fact that I do not think I am mentally ready to give up the habit. At least with electronic cigarettes, the motion is still there as well as the nicotine fix.

I did some research and finally decided in choosing between the Joye 510 and DSE 901. At the end of it all, I bought the Joye 510 seeing as most people recommended it. It is currently charging right now and I can't wait to try it out. I also bought a 18mg 10ml e liquid of mango and a PCC. I'll update you guys on how it goes. I read most of the recommendations for n00bs, but might as well ask, do you guys know any tips for a newcomer of the top of your head?

As soon as the green light comes on.. go to town! That "charge for 8 hours" thing is a myth. Honest.

And don't forget that a 510 atty may have a bit of a weird taste at first... and may take a while to break-in and give you full vapor and flavor.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the tip. That was what I was actually wondering about. Seeing as most new electronics are fully charged after at or around 4 hours, I was really surprised to see that the 510 needed 8 hours.

Before I use a new atty I wrap my lips around the battery connector in and blow through it as hard as I can, into a napkin a few times until no more "primer" juice is coming out of it. Then I do a 10-sec dry burn, then I drip 3 drops on the atty, hit it a few times and then add a few more drops. I drip though, I do not use carts ATM. Though I think I'm going to look into the differet PTB mods As, dripping and driving is quite the pain in the ....

Great info... As a newb myself, I was wondering if the juice has any toxicity to skin? When I got my first demo from Gammucci, it had a warning card saying how toxic nicotine is. (can you say "disclaimer") I know there's only a small amount in the juice, but any info on this is greatly appreciated.

Personally I haven't had a problem with the juice on my skin. I don't think you should let it say on your skin for too long and I'm sure if you spilled the whole bottle in you lap then you would want to clean it off your skin quick.

As for a little drop on your finger, I don't think it will do anything. I've been vaping for almost 2 months and I usually get a little on my hand at least once or twice a day when refilling and I usually just wipe it off with a kleenx and I've been fine. I use 18-24mg.

Thanks jennlsnoopy... I kinda figured a little wouldn't be a problem, but what they said on that card from Gammucci was like "rinse for 15 minutes, then, if your still alive, go strait to the hospital...." I was like, ****, that's a little scary.

I guess refillable is the way to go???? I got a couple of 510s from Level that came with like 25 throw-aways. So I got a day or two to decide what juice, from who, etc.

Anyways... thanks again!

Welcome! It's a win-win situation choosing between the 901 and the 510. My old 901 stuff is gathering dust in the corner now, but I'm always tempted to add an atomizer or two to my next order. We had some good times. They're both good units, just different.

I didn't give my batteries a full charge and it kind of took them a while to settle in, but do feel free to "go for it" when the light turns green. Heck, when you go to sleep at least one battery is going to get an 8 hour charge right? After a while you won't remember which is which anyway.

Everyone's path is different. Some people quite with the first puff. Me, I smoked at work and vaped at home the first week. I was kind of a pioneer and wanted to see if it worked before I started showing it to people. I figured if I could go 4-5 hours vaping I could go all day. You may still need a morning smoke or a nighttime smoke. After a while you'll hit a point where you say, "I only smoked one cigarette today". If you knocked out the other 20 or 30 or 40 per day, you can knock out that last one. The biggest decision maker for most people is they just don't want to get in the car and drive down to pay 4-8 bucks for another pack of cigarettes. When you reach that point, have a seat and have a good long vape.

Since you're a noob (sorry, but we all were at one time) and I think this thread might attract other newcomers, I'm going to post my favorite video. It's for a 901 but the same rules apply to the 510. Even 6 months later I still use these tips for everything I do. You can read all you want, but these videos helped my get my head around the basics. And a lot of what you read will make more sense (you did ask for tips, right?).

Your mom said not to say...
You have a 510 right? Learn how to use it properly. Long slow draws work best, it is not a cigarette and it will not smoke like one either. I give the button a little preheat push before I start the draw and give a long slow even draw.

Be aware that the first few puffs you really don't want to inhale the stuff. Put some drops of juice directly on the atomizer as well. Once you have the liquid on the atomizer give it a few puffs without inhaling to burn off the coating that they have on the atomizers to protect them during shipping. The 510 can take a few days to break in depending on how much you use it. It took a good week or so for me but that's because I have a m401 I was using as well.

There are a ton of maintenance and performance tips that would take hours to write about here. The forum has tons of other tips. As for getting juice on your hands I wouldn't sweat it personally just wash them, but be aware that if you have cats that PG is toxic to them. Do not let them get into your juice supplies or pet them with juice on your hands.

gooneyO, I just finished the thread you referred me to... thanks so much. I have to say that you, sharing your story, in an honest and forthcoming manner has really given me hope that e-cigs WILL be the end of the analog for me... not just another attempt.

I so LOVE the ritual of smoking and just couldn't come to terms with not being able to do something that I love. I just thought that I'd always BE a smoker. Now I have hope.

Many, MANY thanks!!! You have definitely "paid it forward".
