So when I first upgraded from my eGo-C to a vv, big battery mod, it was because someone let me try their's and I was like, "Dam, that was a big ol' hit! And the flavor!" Well, the same thing happened again when someone let me try their rba. I don't even know what kind it was but it was very flavorful and it was on a Provari Mini, so it wasn't even sub-ohm (which I haven't tried yet either). And once again......BIG ol' hit!

Anyway, I ended up copping a Richman rba, slightly used, off another forum and it should be here in a few days. I plan to take it to my local spot and have them teach me how to set it up. As a 1st timer, did I get in over my head? This RBA got pretty good reviews everywhere, so I thought it would be a good buy. What should I expect? Any tips, advice, comments?

Keep in mind this is totally new territory to me. I don't know the difference between silica-based and genesis style RBA's or anything yet. But everyone starts somewhere!

once you have it you will know what a genesis style is. they are all the same basic build. wickhole, centerpost, tank and fillhole. the differnt versions will change the vape a little some are better then others. but with a little fiddling they can even be used with silica/softwicks.

the RM is probably one of the better cheaper geni's. its not hard but be warned its not simple either and sometimes can be a little rough on the learning curve.
there are a ton of articles in the rba forums like stated. if you have patience and take the time i think just a bout anyone can rebuild a geni.

once you get it and are doing the first rebuild yourself remember to stop in for nelp if you get stuck or dont remember what your local guy showed you.

i use the drillbit method for coils, makes it simple.
i twist my mesh and burn it with a lighter.
slide the wick in the coil and pulse out the hot spots.
look for videos on the tube for some good ideas and the huge amount of variations to setting them up.

I started building with immediate success about two weeks ago (RDA). Honestly the hard work is doing your research. Who cares what new folks have to say, get advice from those with real knowledge. Ask questions if you can't find what you're looking for. Once you're confident that you've covered all your bases, the actual building of coils is reasonably straightforward. A steady hand and sharp eyes (or a magnifying glass) goes a long way.

So far I've been building coils at around 1.0 ohm. I'm not interested in sub-ohm builds, and ideally would like to increase things to around 1.3-1.5 but that has been harder than I expected.

Anyway, safety first. I can't stress that enough. Plenty of horror stories on the forum to scare you into reading until you go crosseyed. But man, once you're there, it's fun, reasonably easy, and the vape... Oh baby. Good luck!

I believe that I have collected a lot of important resources in my blog article that can get off to a nice safe start: Advice and Tips for Vapors Looking Into Their First RBA - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-tips-vapors-looking-try-their-first-rba.html

Before even building your first coil and wick, be sure to have a multimeter and learn how to use it to measure your coils, or at least have the function on your PV. And also be sure to use the correct batteries of the highest quality.
