Ok, so the waiting is over..my 510 (manual) has arrived!! Happy Dance :D

I do have a few questions of course. Thought I had read enough to know what I was doing when it first arrived, however, I almost felt frozen when I opened everything..maybe "overwhelmed" is a better word?
Anyhow, here's some questions I have:

1) Purchased some blank carts (no filler in them) and some pre-filled. Also purchased some cartomizers (only 5).
Am I supposed to do anything with the atty's prior to use? I did see one video of someone just opening the kit, putting the 510 together and vaping away. However, I know there's a primer on the atty when new - should I do something with the atty to ensure no "bad" taste from primer?

2) Do the pre-filled carts keep the atty wet at all times or do you have to drip a few drops of juice onto the atty every so often? If so, how often? (I am afraid I will burn up an atty so want to make sure I do this right)

3) Approx. how long do the pre-filled carts last? I've read anywhere from 5-7 cigs worth - is this about right? I'm guessing the vapor and flavor production will drop off when the cart starts getting close to the end of it's juice, correct?

4) Is it normal for the atty part of the unit to get warm to the touch? And how warm is "too warm"?? (Can you tell the atty is my biggest issue here? SO worried I'm going to screw this all up somehow lol) Is there a certain amount of time between vapes that one should allow it to cool down?

5) I thought there was another question...apparently I'm too overwhelmed to remember it.....

Thanks for any help anyone can offer!

Some atomizers seem to have primer on them and some don't.
Or some do, but it isn't that nasty horrible stuff that are on some other ones.

So in order to reduce your odds, you might want to blow out the atomizer real good first.
And EVERY TIME you blow out an atomizer you should then put at least three drops on the bridge.

That will get you rolling again whether you plan to drip or use a cartridge.

2) Do the pre-filled carts keep the atty wet at all times or do you have to drip a few drops of juice onto the atty every so often?
That is a complicated question, but read more below...

If so, how often?
Another complicated question but basically, when it needs it...

Dry atomizers, flooded atomizers, and wicking
Basically, you want to keep your atomizer happy with plenty of juice, but not too much as to flood it.

A good sign that it's flooded is that it gets a little harder to draw on and you get little or no vapor.
Flooding it, however, won't hurt it at all, and you can just blow out the extra juice.

Letting it get too dry, on the other hand, is not good for the atomizer supposedly.
But regardless of whether it is bad for the atomizer or not, you still don't want to do it.

You can tell it is too dry when it starts to taste like crap.
A nasty sort of burnt plastic type of taste.

One reason it might get too dry is if you burn through the juice faster than it can wick up more.
That is why people experiment with different kinds of filler materials to use in their cartridges.

If you take only a drag or two every now and then, you should be fine.
But if you use these like a cigarette, the wicking process will have trouble keeping up.
There are ways to deal with this, and people have different methods that work better for them.

And of course, when the cartridge is running low on juice, it needs topping off for this reason.

(I am afraid I will burn up an atty so want to make sure I do this right)
Unless you are using high voltage or LR atomizers, I wouldn't worry about that.

4) Is it normal for the atty part of the unit to get warm to the touch?
Yes

I'm sure there will be different opinions to follow though.

Thanks DC. Appreciate the quick & detailed response.
I may be doing this wrong, but it seems that one hit will be full of vapor, the next not so much. Is there a "trick" to vaping the same way each time to ensure the same hit each time (minus any cart/atty issues of course)??
I'm taking long, slow drags but they seem different each time. Maybe I'm just weird ;)

Woot grats on your new PV!
Dont worry if the atty on the 510 gets hot - I vape mine til you could cook an egg on the atty casing  It really doesn't hurt them, just don't lay it down on bare skin.
Sometimes it helps to press the button a couple seconds before you take a vape on it, and remember to do slower pulls than smoking requires; not TOO deep either or you'll start coughing.
As for how many cigs worth = 1 cart - just vape until you feel 'satisfied'. Youre not getting anything except the nicotine and that can take a while to 'build up' in your bloodstream. Cigarettes give you an almost 'instant' hit of nicotine so to compare the 2 is fraught with issues.
I stopped worrying about it around day 2 of vaping. I enjoyed the 'feel of smoking' and the taste, and my juice is fairly low nic level so I just vape as much as I want to.
I gave up carts as not only did I get through them fast (lol) I also got bored of messing with filler. Now I just drip :)

Bare skin as in my skin? Or did you mean something else? (I feel another "d'oh" moment coming lol)

Already had a deep pull/coughing but in a strange way, it was kinda cool to feel it working as well as say, a full flavor cig drag (I smoked lights, so a full flavor would make me cough with the first drag every time!).

I would like to eventually drip but right now, want to get my feet wet enough to know what the heck I'm doing with this new contraption ;) I am sure before the month is up, I'll be dripping too. :D

Not lovin' the juice I got with the kit (American Blend 24mg from Nicotine Nirvana) but have some more on the way from Ms.T's, hopefully by end of the week. Can't wait to start trying something other than tobacco.
I also have some RY4 Cartomizers, along with some 555 - maybe those will taste better? We shall see.

Can't tell you how nice it is to come to this forum and KNOW redundant and silly questions will be answered, and SO quickly too! You guys ROCK!! :thumb:

I just got mine as well, joye 510. I love it. Although when I ordered mine I only ordered the kit + 5 empty carts. I did a lot of research on juice before I ordered, so I didn't have any when I first got my 510. So I just put the cart on and smoked, I will say at first "about half way through the first cartridge" I thought it was horrible, I thought that the prefilled carts that come with the 510 "Dekang" juice was DISGUSTINGLY HORRID. But then it started to get good, and now the Dekang is not so bad still not that best but not that bad, and a hell of a throat hit with big hits.

i'm really enjoying my 510 and I'm sure you will.
Just relaxe and vape, if your atty break sh** happens, buy a new one :)
But now you know better ;) proper research like you said you've done will go along ways.
