What's wrong with kids today is such a torn issue for me. I am a single mother, I AM and DO it all, and I know I am very capable. I can do anything I want, I work hard, mothers truly are superheroes. THAT SAID, I think what is wrong with kids today is their families are broken. The mothers are working all the time, some two and three jobs, fathers are absent in the childrens lives. When I got off the bus, my mom was home. I was brought up in Sunday School - no matter what you think about religion, it gave me a good foundation between right and wrong. These punks these days do not value life, as shown when they run around shooting each other in the face without blinking an eye. What's the solution? I have no idea...but I worry about the future of our country quite often. Just my :2c:

Amen sister. No values in todays society I couldn't agree more!

Good Point! Custody of my grandson is challenging to say the least. he has issue's due to abandonment (mother and father) so he is in counseling. It was suggested that I take a 'parenting class' so I could learn to reward him rather than punish him??? Huh? The kid makes life miserable for most of his teachers, my animals at home, me most nights and sometimes mornings and I need to learn how to reward him? They say I will get better results if I reward him rather than punish him and it is so hard to wrap my head around that because I was just expected to behave, no bribery, just behave.

obviously coming from a broken home can have a negative effect on children and their overall upbringing, but I think it's more about spending quality time with your children and showing them right from wrong. it also seems like "punishing" your child makes you a bad person. Now, I'm not condoning hitting your child, but I'm merely talking about making them responsible for their actions.

Sorry, some kids just need their rear ends smacked once in a while. Lots of parents are terrified to do that because they're afraid they'll go to jail.

Because our society is so liberal and everythings just sooo "bad" and "evil" these days... Our society is like an episode of oprah now... Someone needs to let all these bleeding heart hippified idiots know that it wont work.. You cant just be nice to everyone and depend on the establishment for 100% of your personal/families defense. And teach these idiots that are too dumb to have a drivers license(but have the right to vote?), that socialism only prevails if everyone WORKS! Stupid welfare vote and socialist economic policy are gonna put us in the same boat as the former ussr

Well, when the entire constituency votes in a president solely because of what he looks like and whether or not hes willing to take tax dollars from functional members of society and give it to the lazy and worthless folks that just dont wanna contribute, this is what we end up with. A socialist state where the working man is punished for the sins of the useless. Yes we effin can. Change, lmao.
just ask detroit or chicago about this great change. WE arent in america anymore people, wake up. Now we have the Obamanation.
Thank you so much libs. And oprah and hillary.

part of the problem with some styles of parenting is that they think negative reinforcement has the best success, but look at it from your perspective. if you significant other wants you to perform a task that you're not really up to doing, it's a lot easier to motivate someone with positive reinforcement than negative.

in case you aren't familiar with the two different types (not you specifically), positive reinforcement could be

"if you clean your room, you can have a snack/go out and play"

where as negative reinforcement is like

"if you don't clean your room, I'll be taking away your playstation for a week"

this isn't to say you only reward or punish your child, but good deeds should be rewarded while bad behavior is punished. I also like to explain to my son (hes 5) why you don't treat people harshly and how to be nice and still get your point across. obviously he doesn't always fully comprehend the intricacies of speech yet, but I think he will shortly

I try both with my seven year old. Neither works. LOL

Well I'm not preaching or trying not to, but this country's founding fathers principals of religious freedom was a good thing but, that doesn't mean abandoning the "one nation under god" to the extent that Christians and the Christian religion are attacked by atheist and the like and that seems to be okay. Do they ever attack the Islamic extremist in me media? How about this present administration?
Abandon your countries founding principals folks and your country will surly fall.

Since when did that seem okay in today's society? Every time that I've seen someone say something against Christianity and it's modern hypocrisy, the Christians throw a fit, like they're special and shouldn't be criticized. Meanwhile they openly criticize and oppress homosexuals, and ridicule atheists, saying that both groups are going to hell, and that's fine, but don't you dare criticize us for our beliefs? It doesn't work like that. It's not a one way street. If you can criticize people for how they live their life, whether or not it is a choice, then you should be prepared to take the criticism you will get as well.

Our forefathers would already be frickin shooting by now... They revolted when income taxes topped out at 12%, we give more than that in social security if Im not mistaken... BBL.
