Argh. I work for a Blue Cross Blue Shield affiliate and they have officially banned all smoking, and e-cigarette use, on the property. I'm not surprised, nor do I really object BUT they also asked us to be good neighbors and not go to neighboring properties to smoke/vape.

I think it's terrible to tell us we can't do it "here" and please be nice and don't do it "around here" either. Grr. Sorry. Had to vent to someone.

...

I wish there were more GP people around here so I could mess around with an X before making a decision to buy one. I really do love my Paps v3, though.

I did hold a Paps X switch for a minute... but I had to send it back and it wasn't a full mod, anyway. =P

Vent all you want! That's what Families are for. Well, good ones. :)

That's nuts! Hope you find a good close place to hide/vape. :)

I tend to hide out in tree lines, bushes...... Just stay out of the 10 feet perimeter and its fine..... I think even malls post that you not smoke within 5 feet of the door?

Hmmm, though it makes sense, it is a chemical reaction, but....... And I know its just me and my "germ freakness" but I could not live knowing that there are biological living creatures in the engravings, even if they are mine....... :)

Now everytime I pick up someones beautifully patina'd device Im going to get all "seinfeld" and just pass.......

My peace and fire medallion gets pretty bad between cleanings... the brass, copper and steel gunk up especially fast in the high heat summers here. It's much easier to clean since I bought the UC for steeping liquids though, in and out in 15 minutes and like new again excpet for the wear and tear from hanging around my neck for 47+ years. Been thinking about calling Paula, the high school gal pal turned hippie chick that made it for me the Summer of Love I spent with her and her friends when she lived in The Haight. She has lived on Kauai since the mid 80's, owns her own business, but I haven't seen or talked to her since my last visit there in the mid 90's.

If you have access to a buffer or even a Dremel with buffing wheels, you'll be surprised how much prettier the finish will be after hitting it with a tripoli compound with a felt wheel, and then a white "color" compound on a sewn cloth wheel.

Yep, this will be done too :)

Probably will hit it with some Autosol afterwards as well just for upkeep. That stuff is glorious on anything else I've used it on, so I will be keeping it polished with it moving forward once I get my final finish how I want it :)

Yeah, I need to get me some Autosol.....Right now I have Cape Cod cloths as well as mother's metal polish which works great, but I hear that Autosol is just that much better....

Path, I did the same thing. I had too. I then regretted every rotation. Theres pics in Part Uno somewhere. It just wasn't me. For some reason I had the urge. Unexplainable, I soon realized there is no way too duplicate the GP brush finish.
It doesnt matter what we think, you know this! I hope you love it brother!

I was the same way. I wanted to do it mostly out of curiosity. The only reason I pulled the trigger on it finally was because of winning the contest. I figured if it wasn't for me, at least I have the original finish still in my other. Now that I've done it, I like it a lot. I'm pretty excited to mix and match polish/brush combos between the two :) I think that will be neat.

I work in healthcare, we can't smoke or vape on property. If we want to, we are supposed to clock out (for lunch) and leave the property. As of this year, they also went so far as to not hire any one who smokes/vapes. They are giving nicotine tests to potential new hires.

I have Autosol and tend to only use it on my items that have a lot of surface scratches as it has those micro grains. I dont want to change the finish on my X. I remember using it on my ELA and it made it shinier. I use Cape Cod or Fitz gun polish for normal cleaning/ shining. Do you all use Autosol for just cleaning?

I think I hear Idabro coming to preach.

Ive been thinking of getting out my Moms ultrasonic cleaner , but I hesitate on the silver plated parts. I always heard and read that it can remove silver and gold plating. I think the first I heard of that was from a jeweler. Have any of you had the plated bits get un-plated/

I've heard that too but I would think as long as you don't use a cleaner that reacts with the metal, and you protect it from rubbing against anything hard inside the cleaner (including the SS body of the tub) it should be fine.

Ugh! So happy I am retired. We all smoked at our desks! Life was good! Funny! :)

Its a great polish. I love that it "protects" as well, which is why I now use it exclusively. It makes mods that patina do so slower and more evenly. Fantastic stuff.

Trickle down effect. Pretty soon cops will be allowed to pull over vapers in their damn cars. But I know what you mean about vaping at work. Neighbors? I don't listen to neighbors. :)

Dang, I wish I had the guts to just go for it. I REALLY, really want to take a stab at least one of my Odys so I can get close to the X brushed finish.

Nobody brushes like GP brushes. And I'll add that the grade of SS is far different to boot. Even if brushed the same it wouldn't be the same. All you could probably do is soften the shine and have the tone affect still.

Just for cleaning I highly recommend Sunshine Polishing Cloths. I clean all my gear with them. Found some on Amazon very cheap. The silver plating I just use a toothbrush and toothpaste.
