I'd stick to calling it 510 for the sake of sheer convenience. Everybody imdtly understands the size/shape/form we are referring to.

If this is true, why saying standard drip tip is not perceived immediately by everybody as my post above?
I think when the terminology is rather symbolic in meaning as with 510 than a well reasoned one like the conventional (standard) drip tip, then somebody from every side will always feel confused, even by the existence of 2 terms for the same item.
When I hear 510 drip tip, I imagine it with threaded bottom, but try to visualise a 510 connection with o-rings. Maybe we should make one to justify the 510 drip tip. :)

PS
No pun intended for those who use the 510 term, I fully understand what they mean, but for the sake of the discussion, I analyse my own reasoning. We can call it whatever we like at the end of the day, it is a matter of consensus.

That's a nice picture, but I fail to see how it supports appending a false moniker of "510" to "drip tip" or why it's convenient to do so. I guess that when you see people calling something by the wrong name, you can choose to correct and educate them or I guess adopt the wrong name yourself in perpetuity for convenience. The latter doesn't seem like the right thing to do IMO.

Well...you could always say 510/808/901 Drip Tip which actually would be more proper

Hahaha! I could take the first digits and call it 589 drip tip as a mnemonic for all the connections! But what about the hybrid ones, I have to put the GPin as well somewhere ... Hmmm ... it becomes more and more irrational, because the 510 drip tip as a term was initially built on a vague resemblance of a shape of a part irrelevant to the drip tip itself. Maybe it came from China, as a simplification lost in translation. Does anyone know the origin of the term?

It fit the 510, the 808 and the 901's - back in the cig-alike days when we got tired of aquarium foam and pyramid tea bags and just started dripping.

people started out using the gripper on the end of a pen as the carts for the attys back then weren't drip friendly
