My mini's push button is quite difficult to depress. As a result I stick with my grand. When I look at the part of the push assembly that touches the battery, it is different between my grand and the mini. The grand's tip that touches the battery is fairly flat; the mini has a pointed tip with which it pushes the battery. Not sure if this is normal, as designed, or whether this twisted "tip" is causing the difficulty in depressing the mini's push button. Any ideas?

My understanding is that the older style switch used a flat contact to the top of the battery. Later, that was changed to a bent "tip".

Some people have posted how hard they have to press on the buttons, but often, it's because they are pressing much harder than needed. If you watch thru the squonk hole, you can actually squeeze the battery nearly to bottom-out if you press hard enough. But if you hold it close to your ear and press it, you may find that it is a surprisingly "light" press that will activate the circuit.

I bought a purple/purple mini from Rob, and the button is a bit tighter than the black/black mini I bought in the classifieds. There is a noticeable difference, but on the purple one I don't have to depress the button down all the way, try holding it half way down and see if it fires.

Like stated above, the older style firing pin was flat on the end ..... that gave some misfires or no fires and needed more noalox than the new style with the bent tip.

I've had (have) several aluminum REOs, some do require more pressure to push than others.
None of mine have seemed too hard though once i figured out that I didn't have to mash it.

I'm pretty sure Robert would be glad to go over it though .... he wan't everyone to be completely satisfied with all his products. Talk it over with him at the least, he can give you the options available to make you a happy camper :)

BTW, I've had both the flatter and the bent firing pins and IMO and many others the bent one is a huge improvement.
Once I got a bent one thats when I realized I can push on the button much lighter than I had been.
The ben't one fires 100% power 100% of the time for me even with never using the noalox.

First try cleaning the firing pin well with alcohol, and while you're at it, clean the button out too (juice and dirt can work their way in). Then add a new drop of noalox on the tip of the firing pin. If that doesn't fix it, PM Rob. It could be misaligned or you may have had a short and melted part of your button.
