New member here, never really been a smoker but got into vaping as a replacement for shisha last year. Strong laws against vaping here but there's a glimmer of light for the future as they do seem to be buckling under pressure from the vaping community and from folks looking to quit smoking.

Hi Mysteron, welcome to ECF and congrats on switching to vaping, that's fantastic. I hope things do ease up in your country, for sure. Most of all, welcome to ECF and I hope you enjoy your time here.

Anna

Thanks :) Yeah, looks like it might be set to improve some time soon. Sometimes it's OK, sometimes not, depends where you are. Get unlucky and caught with a vape on the streets, 20-30,000 baht fine ($620 - 933) to avoid a trip to the police station!! Some places much more relaxed than others, and depends on which cops you encounter, some will even say "let me try", then they pull out their own and say try this!!

Wasn't so impressed with vaping at first. Tried a few clearomizer and sub-ohm tanks that came with the mods (Smoant Battlestar and Pico iStick) and they were a bit meh. So much so that I thought no way is this as good as a shisha. Since then I bought two more tanks (Ammit 25 RTA and a DeJaVu RDTA) and got into making coils. SOOOOOOOO much different!!! Now eagerly awaiting a Digiflavour Drop to arrive :)

Welcome to the forum. For me, it is always very interesting to hear about experiences in other parts of the world. About a year ago I read that someone had actually called the Royal Thai Consulate in Los Angeles (USA) to inquire if vape equipment could be brought in and they were allegedly told not to bring anything in because it's illegal. And I have read other encounters like yours that some police actually have vape equipment.

I guess because you live there you know what you feel safe doing or not doing. I think it might be dangerous for a foreigner to bring in any vape equipment.

Thanks for the info. Will check the links out.

It may well be that things will improve here over the next year or so given the meetings between government officials and various pressure groups but make no mistake, vaping is illegal here and carries very severe penalties. That poster on TripAdvisor really just got lucky, very very lucky. The folks who do it here and get away with it know when and where they are less likely to get a problem but even then, you never know. Just randomly walking down a street vaping is just plain dumb in the current climate here and the TA poster was extremely lucky not to have a very serious and expensive problem. TAT can barely be relied on for anything and even then, give conflicting advice even within their own organisation. TAT is not the police / Customs and those are the agencies that could spoil your day. I make so much of this only in case folks are thinking of coming here with vape gear and vaping. Current advice, if you must, is to leave your gear at home, pick up something here and do it in private.

That's good to hear for I refuse to go to Thailand due to their insane, misguided and corrupt Vaping laws. Buddy of mine who loves Thailand, been there a number of times also will no longer go to Thailand because of their misguided Vape Laws. Fact is he had his annual trip set up then changed them when he found out about their laws.

Anyway would really love to see them change for Thailand has always been on my Bucket List.

Definitely Thailand is not on my vacation destination list...I wish every vaper boycott this country in every way possible.... the same apply to to Singapore. Stupidity of their laws is incredible.... smoking is allowed vaping that is hundred times more safe is not... in Singapore even chewing gum is illegal... oh my god....:-x

I don't know of anyone that's had a problem bringing vape gear in BUT it needs to be done sensibly. Standard airline practices with bringing it in (mod and tanks in checked luggage - broken down, split up and dispersed as much as you can, batteries in hand luggage). Not worth bringing juice in IMO, maybe one bottle but dispensed into a plain / clear bottle and tucked in with toiletries etc. Several online suppliers here who are still trading and can deliver a massive variety of juices often within 24 hours, mods and attys too. There are also a couple of superb DIY juice makers here who sell juices which are outstanding, one of whom I use more than mainstream juice TBH. If coming longer term it might be worth bringing in one rig as you'll be very unlucky to lose it, even then it'll most likely be binned (or kept!!) by the scanning crews and the police and Customs are unlikely to get involved. Safest, for long termers, buy gear here. I've also never had a problem ordering from Ali Express or 3F Vape, packages come in unmarked, China Post registered air mail and arrive within 5-7 working days, very much cheaper than the suppliers here. Juice I'd never risk ordering from overseas.

You just have to be uber careful where you use it. Carrying it in your pocket or a bag can also be dangerous if you encounter a police spot check, normally frisking for drugs, but that's mostly in the troublesome (for them) tourist areas like Kaosan Road in Bangkok. But police here don't do multi tasking very well (in fact they don't do much very well), if you encounter a road check they are normally just focussed on what they are looking for (no licence / no helmet etc). It's not as bad as it sounds, but folks need to be aware of the risks and the obvious dos / don'ts.

Folks can feel free to contact me by PM if looking for suppliers, I won't post their details for obvious reasons. Big Brother is watching LOL.

Thanks for all that info - really interesting. Sounds like a spot-on commentary from someone who is definitely in the know. Unfortunately, there is corruption everywhere. I am in the United States and I can tell you that if I travel to Thailand it would be without any vape equipment because I do not want to end up in a foreign jail or prison. There are chances/choices/decisions that I might be willing to take in the US because I know the system that I would not take in a place that is not my home. I hope that the laws on vaping in Thailand will be changed to provide free choice for people so that they can choose to use a much safer alternative than smoking but truthfully do not see it coming anytime soon.

Stay safe!
