Greetings Everyone, I am 46 years old and have been a smoker for the majority of my life, at least 30 years. I have tried vaping before with the pen style atomizers and never really liked them and resorted to dipping, snus'ing, chewing, and back to smoking. Honestly I felt like I was a lost cause or something because nothing seemed to work to satisfy my nic-fit except smoking.

This past weekend my wife of 28 years and mother of our five children (the two oldest are grown and out of the house) took me to the mall and into a new vape shop there that had recently opened up. She told me to "pick one out" referring to the mods behind the glass in the counter. I asked the salesperson ALOT of questions before finally settling on the SMOK AL85 in Silver.

I know its only Monday evening, but I have been cigarette free since Saturday afternoon :) and this is huge for me. I joined a few sites dedicated to vaping as well as ordering some spare batteries (Twinpack of Samsung 2500mah 20A 18650's) along with the updated Nitecore IntelliCharger i2 which arrived today thanks to our Prime account (thanks Amazon for speedy delivery).

The real test for me came in the morning, the first morning after purchase, I poured myself a cup of Folgers Black Silk (black, no cream nor sugar) and the cravings were no problem for my "Baby Alien", the nice folks at the local vape shop gave me a choice of a few bottles to compliment and try out my mod for free, they would even add the nicotine to my liking and I asked for 12mg having smoked Camels and Marlboro Reds forever. I really wanted a higher nicotine count, like 18 or 24 to match the full strength cigarettes I was used to.

But the very knowledgeable saleslady talked me out of the higher nicotine explaining how the atomizing process works as opposed to the direct injection of nicotine from a burning cigarette. I am glad I heeded her advice, and even just today I realized that even 12mg might be a bit much as I found myself vaping simply because the flavor was so delicious, forgetting that my e-juice contained nicotine. I didn't get sick, but I did touch that threshold when my body said "Hey there, hold on a minute" after having a few too many vapes. Now I am just going to cut back next time to 6 or maybe even 3mg's.

In closing, thank you all for having me, I hope to learn much from you all and to one day contribute. Have a wonderful week and nice to meet you all!!

Welcome to ECF! Sounds like you got a good start on things. Where I am in Texas, there isn't any stores, much less any other vapers around here, so I learned what I could from here before i made my purchase. Now, I just passed my 3 year mark a month ago cig free. Keep it up, you can do it, and there's a whole lot of good folks around here who can help with anything you have questions about. Glad to have you here!

Welcome to vaping and to ECF. San Antonio here. Just passed my 6 year vapeversary. Which is amazing! Smoked 2 pad for 38 years. Never, ever thought I would be able to quit.

Six years later and it still seems like a miracle!

Welcome. As others have said, it sounds like you're off to a great start.

It also sounds like you've done some research on batteries and chargers, because Samsung and Nitecore are among the few good brands out there. There are a lot of issues with counterfeit and rewrapped batteries in this industry. Our resident battery guru, Mooch, puts out a chart of recommended batteries. You can find it here:

18650 Battery Ratings -- Picking a Safe Battery to Vape With | E-Cigarette Forum

At the bottom of the chart you'll find a list of good battery vendors who have reliable sourcing and put extra effort into making sure they don't end up with counterfeits. Counterfeits are rife on Amazon and eBay and similar sites, so it really is important to buy from a trusted vendor.

Good luck with your journey!
