From what I've read the authentic has the same problem with voltage drop as the clones. The main culprit is the 510 connector, and the pin in it. Some have changed out the pin (a solid piece of brass or copper, make sure to insulate it), others have bought a new top cap (the King and Chi You top caps supposedly fit). I took out the pin alltogether and use a longer center pin in my Kayfun 3.1. The pin now extends through the top cap and touches the brass battery tube. Again, it's important to insulate the pin so it doesn't touch the walls of the top cap.
