And the year has turned, once again we celebrate our independence day in our country.

For many people, we celebrate this day simply as one we don't have to work, a day for carnivals, fireworks, alcohol and parties.

But I'd like to take a moment to reflect on why we have this day as one of the revered days on the American calander.

Our founding fathers took it on themselves to fight the big dogs, the ones with the money and power, because of something they believed in. They, in turn, stimulated the common people to see this belief as attainable. They then all banded together to fight for this belief.

Unity. Common purpose. One goal, one objective, one message with one million voices all stating it in unison. With this binding, they were an unstoppable juggernaught.

And, they won. Against terrible odds. With losses that were staggering. But they won...and forged this, the greatest country in the world, on their principals.

Just remember this, on this 4th of July. Enjoy your holiday.

Very well said Vicks!!!

I would also like to take this opportunity to point out to the complainers, whiners, anarchists and general problem causers, that because of the founding fathers willingness to take on "The Big Dogs", you have that right to complain, whine and cause problems. While I personally may not agree with your point of view, you still have the right to it. You probably don't agree with the way I see things either. And that's fine! I have the same right as you to my opinion. Please let me have it!!! Just as I will let you have yours. Just don't try to force your thoughts and ideas down my throat. Our Fathers DID NOT give you THAT right. Conversly, I won't try to convince you that my way is the only way.
The fact that we can express these views and opinions shows us just how great this country is. When differences come up, we vote on them and the majority rules. Some may not agree with that, but tough noogies! That's the way it is.
Also on this day of celebration, let's all take a minute to give thanks to our troops, where ever they may be. Once again, you may not agree with what they are doing, but they are not the ones that decided to go to Afghanistan, or Iraq, or where ever. And, once again, if you disagree, we have a system on place to change that. It's called the Vote. But put your differences aside and thank the young men and women of our country for serving US and making these rights and freedoms available to us and hopefully, others as well.
Enjoy your Holiday....
God Bless America!

vicks, and bite ------

very well said both of you.

I am not an american,
but I agree with the sentiments expressed in both of your posts here.

I have always admired the tremendous feeling of patriotism that
exists in the hearts and minds of americans,
most of them love thier country, many of them fight for thier country, and some make the ultimate sacrifice for thier country,
such love for thier country is something to be admired,
and aspired to by many other peoples, and countries.

have a happy 4th july holiday, all you yanks, we luv ya.
throw another shrimp on the barbie !!!!!

The older I get, the more I appreciate being an American. Oh, not in a snotty, "We're better than everyone else" way, but, rather, a simple and humble recognition that we've got it pretty darned good here and not everyone is so fortunate.

But put your differences aside and thank the young men and women of our country for serving US and making these rights and freedoms available to us and hopefully, others as well.

Well said, BiteMe.

I'm so incredibly grateful for the sacrifices so many have made (and are making) which have helped build this country. We're far from perfect, but we have managed to get an awful lot right. ;)

And many thanks for the good wishes, Di. My grandmother was from Australia, and she often said that being an American was almost as good as being an Aussie. :)

Happy Birthday!

And be careful with those fireworks! (I can't help it . . . I'm a mom.)
