Today's news on Aunt Liz is not what we were hoping for. Her medical team isn't giving her a very good prognosis of making it through surgery with her pulmonary disease. I'm not sure what the decision will be, her nephew has medical power of attorney so he'll talk to Liz and make sure she understands the risks involved in surgery vs. no surgery. I know that Liz will not go willingly to a care facility with no hope of ever going home.

I still have no idea what part of her hip is broken, whether or not it can heal with traction rather than surgery, or if it's possible to do a spinal block rather than full anesthesia.

Another update. Liz and her medical team decided to go with the surgery using a spinal block rather than putting her out. She had a plate and screws put in to fix the fracture and did well, but started having breathing trouble after the surgery so right now she's in ICU on a vent.

We'll see what tomorrow brings, I'm always the hopeful optimist.

I'm optimistic too Bov! Yay for Aunt Liz!!!

My Dad spent 8 days in the ICU on a vent last year, was very scary, but he pulled through just fine. Be prepared though, the longer they spend on that vent, the liklier they end up going to a rehabilitation center for awhile. My Dad's episode was about a month long start to finish.

Pulling for Aunt Liz to make a full recovery!
