Hardware upgrades 27 Oct 2012 - 8 AM EST

The datacenter folks will be doing some hardware upgrades on some of our servers on 27 Oct 2012 @ 8 AM EST. This work is expected to take about two hours. ECF will not be available during this time period but live chat will not be affected (different datacenter).

Not sure if you guys want feedback on "glitches", but since you just went through an upgrade I thought you might want to know... while posting a response to a thread I got this.

Refreshed the screen and all was normal again.

And again at 1:26pm PDT while deleting a duplicate post.

Currently if you click on "New Posts" the page comes up blank.

Yeah, all my efforts to go to "Today's Posts", "My Posts", "Suppliers Posts" etc go straight to SERVER ERROR/Bad Gateway notices.

Same with the advanced search (tried in the DIY-eliquid section). I get the blank page as well.

We did some server upgrades today and took the opportunity to update the search software while the techs were already working.

A lot of the functions that are tied to search will be unavailable until all of the search indices are fully regenerated. In a forum this large this will take some time.

Most of the today's posts searches are working now, but searches that require deeper queries will be unavailable for a while longer. This includes subscriptions and "My Posts"

on top of 502 bad gateway errors i've been getting this quite often

The hardware upgrades are done, But Harry (our vB tech) is upgrading the search function. Part of this process requires him to run some pretty heavy duty queries on the database and will lead to intermittent outages because of high server load. You may also experience some weird error messages as he tweaks the system and makes any required changes to the page templates.

Unfortunately there isn't a lot we can do about it except be patient and wait through the tough spots. Harry is a wizard and is working as fast as he can.

It looks like most of the major work on search has been completed and we've regained full functionality. We will continue to monitor the situation as part of our post upgrade checks.


Oh and a big thanks to John (our server tech) and Harry (our vB tech) for all the hard work today. They started in the wee hours of the morning and have been at it all day.

Odd occurrence for me. On kent's thread in vets - I posted a reply and it isn't showing - however in the listing from vets forum it shows my post at 4:57pm (EDT) and it sends me to page 196 (standard default on posts per page) but it shows a page 197 - but clicking on it gets me back to page 196??

I just cleared cache, history, restarted - still doing the same thing - can't access pg 197 Just in case it's something in the update....

I am able to access other 'last pages'. (shrugs)

It is a glitch we've seen before in the past and have not been able to recreate accurately enough to either fix ourselves or request a fix from vB. Let me try posting a blind reply to the thread and see if it solves your issue- it usually does.

yeah I just posted a reply to the thread because i couldn't go to the last page either. If we can ever figure out what exactly causes this and can reproduce it we can bug vbulletin.org about fixing it. Right now the only info we have is that it is the first post on a new page and we can't reproduce it consistently :/
