hey guys, my first ecig has arrived :rolleyes:
only just started with it, and just have a few questions
i have a vaporfi pro variable voltage (3.2-4.8) battery and the vaporfi pro L 2 cartomize, and have 18mg juice
when i first started using it i got really harsh hits, i think this was because i hadnt let it soak long enough, so i left it and it got way better, but im noticing its still a little harsh on my throat and is leaving a dry feeling like ive just been coughing, on the back of my throat, its not too bad, and its mainly when im exhaling. i have a feeling its the strength juice i have been using it on 3.6v mostly, but dont notice much difference in the throat hit between 3.2 and 4.8 at all.
i a have 1.5 ohm atomizer in there
thanks in advance guys :) i know theres probably thread already about this sorry

Congratulations on buying your first e-cig. :)

I'm assuming from your choice of 18mg juice that you were a heavy smoker. Have you managed to stop smoking or smoke less? If so, well done again.

I suspect the harshness you are experiencing is manly due to the high nicotine levels in your juice, but you may be able to reduce this somewhat by changing the PG/VG ratio as well.

I'm sorry I don't know your system, but can you get cartomisers with a higher VG and lower PG ratio?

You may find in time that you can reduce the nicotine strength of your juice and still enjoy vaping, and stay off the cigarettes.

That said don't rush to lower your nicotine level if you've found a strength that is working for you. You can do this later, think of it as a long term project, you don't need to achieve Navana on the first day.

i think it is a 50/50 ratio, not sure but im pretty certain, i think i might look at diluting it, because i honestly dont mind vaping more often and having less throat hit, thats kind of what i want now, when i first ordered it, it was just too get off the stinkies
but ive only got it a few hours ago so i havnt had a ciggy since and intend to keep it that way haha
ill see how i go over the next couple of days and if it doesnt sort itself out ill try diluting it, im looking at eventually making my own eliquid so when i start doing that im hoping i can find the strength that suits me by starting at 3mg and going up or down as it suits me (i was a winner in the x cube 2 thread so i know with that cloud machine ill need to drop down to 3mg at least haha)
thanks for the advice and support :)

I found vapor to be different from smoke, & at 1st my reaction was the same as yours. After a few days I must have altered the speed, volume, mouth / lung ratio... & adopted a different vaping technique without changing juice or hardware.
I would tell you how I did it, but don't have a clue.

another question, with bigger machines like the x cube 2 and vv/vw mods like the mvp pro, with sub ohm atomizer tanks, am i still gonna get that throat feeling if im vaping 3mg or less ?

There are two things that causes throat hit.

High nicotine and propylene glycol. Some people are aleegic to PG.

I would suggest cutting your juice in a tank as an experiment.

Go to a pharmacy and get a bottle of Vegetable Glycerin.

Fill a tank 2/3 of the way with your ejuice then top off the tank with VG. Screw together and shake well and vape this tank and see if it is better fit you.

Cutting the ejuice lowers the PG from 50% to about 35% and the nic from 18 mg to 12 mg.

I usually vape 18mg unflavored %100VG. Sometimes the first few hits right after I wake up in the morning are a bit 'harsh' for me. What I do is try to ether breath some air in at the same time I'm drawing on the drip-tip or reduce the time the fire button is active by some amount: draw, press fire, release fire, stop drawing.

I started using 0mg 50/50 (vg/pg) to prime my coils and while THAT vape seemed very smooth I tried filling a tank with 50/50 18mg and ended up dumping it as I did not like it. (to harsh)

When I first started I went through a dozen or more 30ml bottles with different PG/VG ratios and nicotine levels until I found something I liked. I still have over 8oz of 50/50 18mg base that I'll have to blend down with 0mg %100VG so I can use it up - or I may just toss the bottle.

It's already been stated to a point, but I will tell you harsh is a problem for me too, and I will tell you what you need to do to avoid it, that worked for me.

I use 18 nic as well, but I recently started to do max VG (nothing is 100% VG but there is max, which is about 90% in most cases) In the morning when my throat is most sensitive, I use 6 nic, and then later in the morning make the switch to the higher nic. I have found this is the perfect thing to do for me, very smooth and not harsh on my throat.

You can go back and forth between a lower nic and the higher nic throughout the day as you need.

As a beside, it takes about a week to two weeks to get through the harshness on your throat, when I first started vaping it was so harsh, but I wanted to quit smoking so bad and didn't know what else to do, that I just suffered through it and eventually ended up just used to it the harshness. I was vaping high nic (18) with a 50/50 mix for a year before I learned about the above trick with max vg.. had I known that before I would have been vaping max VG in the beginning.

Either way though, your throat will adjust but I do recommend what I stated, max VG with a lower nic in the morning, then make the switch to a higher nic max vg after being up for an hour or so.

thanks man, when i order and get my diy stuff and find my sweet spot, ill make a few different strengths and try out what your recommending, i will stick it out and see if it gets better, one of the three juices that i ordered i have found is giving me a lot less trouble than the other two so i might stick with that one to start :)

If someone was allergic to Propylene Glycol they would know it way before they started vaping.

Not liking or being sensitive to a physical sensation is not the same thing as being allergic to a substance.

    How would they know that?

Chris the guy at indoor smokers on You Tube developed an allergy to PG after he had been vaping a few months to a year. If he vapes too much in an ejuice review it causes him problems. Where he gets his ejuice he asks they specially blend his ejuice at 80%VG and 20% PG so he can stay off cigarettes.

When I make my ejuice I make it 70% VG 30% PG

VG is horrible carrying the flavor but makes clouds. PG is horrible at cloud making but does great carrying flavor.

    I think 70/30 is perfect

I was not saying dilute the whole bottle of ejuice. I was talking of diluting one tank. Fill a CE4, GSH2, etc 2/3 of the way with ejuice and top off the tank with VG. If you don't like it you only have 1.6-2 ml to vape that you don't like, then next time you fill the tank do a 75% JUICE and top it off with VG. this way you can try different ratios from the same bottle of juice with very little if any waste

You're right. It would taste awful in 100% VG.

90-95% VG I'd about as high as you can go because there is PG in most if not all flavors and nicotine's.

I usually make my ejuice 30-35% PG depending on the strength of the flavor. I'm down to 2 mg nic. Now.

When I get to 0 I will continue to vape for a while. I want to have something to vape in case of stress without bumming a cigarette.

Because propylene glycol is in ice cream, mouthwash, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, it is the primary carrier for most vaccines, in deodorant it is generally the first ingredient, and many many other things that we consume on a daily basis
