The die-hards, yes, absolutely. One distant older cousin of mine just looks at it and sniffs delicately (his way of telling you that he doesn't approve of that new-fangled electrical stuff that probably has a chip in it that tracks your movements).

He's the last smoker in the family. I've converted all the others to vaping. :)

They're getting defensive because they see you as a threat. Which, really we are if you think about it. Just a very indirect and really rather non-threatening one.

I find it heartening to think of the tar building up in their lungs while mine remain pink and healthy.

I feel your pain. I have turned some potentially bad encounters into a learning lesson for people who have approached me while freely vaping, minding my own business. Some have that "witch-hunt" look on their face but when I explain it is vapor and show them how my contraption works, it peaks their interest! I then tell them "when you really want to find an alternative to smoking and want to explore the world of vaping, go to insert_fav_vape_shop and they will set you up".

It helps because I was a long time smoker - back when I could smoke in my office - so I understand the "You_trader!" mentality that has come from some friends, coworkers but just like everything else, humans are terrified of what they don't know until they experience it for themselves.

Chin up and wishing all your vapors be delicious clouds!

I'm getting that as well since I'm in the military and tons of people i hangout with smoke. I've helped divert a few into vaping and some even wanting to do it for fun! The best thing i do is show them studies. Once i explained the studies of vaping vs smoking analogs, tons of people have shut the hell up and let me be. Vape on!

My experience is that they'll give you crap until they realise you don't get defensive about it (as in many things in life).

I have stock answers for most things, e.g. "The batteries explode!" -> "Yes, some of them have. I use a battery chemistry which essentially cannot explode though. My phone is more likely to explode".

I find if I'm not pushy at them, they're mostly interested or indifferent, rather than hostile - both of which are fine by me.

don't let them get a cheap setup! Set the up right with a good mod and atomizer so they can get better vapor production and taste! cause smoking through a ce4 and ego is crapppp just IMO

I wouldn't go that far... the 4 people I converted at my office (my boss included) I pointed them right to the Kanger EVOD starter kit. Theres no point in making them spend that kind of money on mods and batteries if they don't even know if its going to work for them. Baby steps.

I havent had people give me grief about it yet... in fact a friend of mine who is totally against smoking saw me using it yesterday, asked if he could try it .... he may go buy one next week probably with 0 nic though since he has never smoked but drives a cab for work at night and wants something to keep him calm enough to deal with rude customers.

Haters gonna hate! The worst for me so far are the former smokers though!!

Yeah, most of my grief comes from what I call the 'smoke nazis'- former smokers that were bad enough when I was on analogs, but now the most common saying is "well, you really didn't QUIT smoking..." Umm, well, I quit tobacco and dropped all the bad parts and kept the best..

I think the smokers who give us grief just want someone to share in their failure to quit, or even commit to it.

What I have found interesting is the resistance to trying it.

I can agree that it's sometimes rational to not want to switch. Many of my friends started vaping before me, and when they suggested I switch, I was happy to try theirs, but my position was that I preferred to try to quit outright, rather than substituting another addiction (especially to begin with, when there were fewer studies about the health effects of vaping). I don't think there's anything irrational about that, and once I'd had a good go at quitting cold turkey and failed, I picked up an e-cigarette.

But I've met quite a few smokers who simply will not put an e-cigarette to their lips. It's like they're afraid they might like it, or something. I don't understand that at all...

"well, you really didn't QUIT smoking..."
When I was still smoking (not that long ago!) that was more-or-less my reaction when I ran into the occasional person who had switched to vaping. In a way, that's correct. We haven't given up the pleasurable aspects of smoking; just most of the nasty side effects. And I'm good with that. However, those who've truly "quit" probably miss it. I suspect on some level they resent and/or are envious of the fact that we're still enjoying ourselves, while they're not.

I've run into several smokers that have tried vaping but didn't like it, couldn't afford it or the devices just weren't cutting it for them...........they were ALL using the cheap (well not so cheap) gas station versions! I try to point them here for education purposes. Also have a date with a couple in January that both want to try vaping, will sit down with them and show them devices/delivery systems that I have so maybe they can try again :)

My b/f used to razz me a bit, he's an analog smoker. He was like yeah you have fun with that "e smoke" of yours! lol. Only when we learned that our favorite pub was cool with me smoking inside did his view change. hahaha he was outside on the padio puffing away and I was inside nice and warm enjoying my vanilla flavored Blu ecigarette. :) Now I have a Ego Ctwist with a Evod tank and lemme tell you, they make great conversation pieces!! I have had met quite a few people who are so curious and the coversation tends to start up the same. "So did you find your esmoke helped you quit?" I love it!! slowly we are seeing more and more people come in with their esmokes :) even better is when you meet another person who has the same set up, goes to the same shop and talks about favorite flavors. BTW my b/f did buy his own Blu starter kit and I am working on buying him the same set up i have :)

My girlfriend's sister gave us all the evil eye for vaping inside around her children at x-mas yesterday.

The irony is she smokes inside her house (we were at my mother-in-law's so she went out to the garage), and inside her car with her kids in the car with her...

*smh* at least her fiancee is looking to start vaping instead of smoking.
