I can't find any thread directly related to this on the forum, but it is something I've been pondering for a while. I have successfully grown Nictotiana or flowering tobacco as it is commonly called for many years here in Southern Ontario (growing zone 6b). I have grown the Alata and sylvestris with great ease. They are quite showy in the garden and self sowing almost to the point of being invasive.
I have seen threads regarding the extraction of nicotine from vegetables and other plants from the nightshade family, but nothing on the annual Nicotiana yet the cultivar 'rustica' leaves can be as high as 9% nicotine.
