I'm having a hard time getting my aga-t2 to wick. I'm using 500 ss mesh and 30ga kanthal. The first wick I made was 1.5"x2", it was wicking alright for awhile with the fill screw out. I decided to try making a wick that was 1.5"x3". I got it rolled tight enough to fit in the wick hole, did a 5 wrap coil with the 30ga Kanthal and got a 1.8ohm coil. The new wick I made isn't wicking. I've tried it with the fill screw in and with it out. The only thing other thing I've done to the aga is enlarge the air hole a little bit. Any ideas or suggestions??
I use 1.5 x 3" 500 mesh to get rid of wicking issues, and I also run with a 4/5 wrap 30g also. I don't know what to tell you, that set up is the answer to wicking problems...

I ran into the same issue as you. Try rolling a wick with a center channel in it. I naturally tilt when I vape anyways and the center channel in the wick improved things for me. Also, not trying to squeeze every bit of wick in helped. If you have too much wick it can get pinched & not wick well.

Has anyone tried pinching the top of a wick to improve wicking?

Maybe that will help. I was under the impression that a solid wick would wick better. Maybe this weekend I'll try and roll a new wick.

Just sand the top cap down a bit with a piece of fine sandpaper on a flat surface, rubbing the top cap on it. Takes about 5 minutes, and then your cap will ALWAYS line up RIGHT where you want it, without even having to look. Again, IMO, easier than the +!

I'm lazy and don't feel like buying sandpaper. I also intend on tearing it down to make an Aga-T/chi chi hybrid. What I did end up doing was doubling up the o-rings with the original and my spare top cap o-ring that came with the T+. It lines up perfectly now and it's pretty hard to unscrew it now.

Do you keep your fill screw in or out?

I keep it in. I have to keep it out with a straw type. It is possible/likely that you have a hot spot not a wicking issue. Are you getting harsh hits?

Take the cap off and hit your fire button, if you see vape you have a hot spot hidden by the liquid cooling the coils. If your coils all glow then you have a wicking issue.
Here is a properly wicking and firing AGA-T looks like:

A solid wick does wick better. The more mesh the better and more efficient the capillary action.

Thanks for the vids! When I fire it, after about 4 seconds the very top coil and the very bottom coil start to glow. At about 6 or 7 seconds the rest start to lightly glow.

I've never rolled an ss wick until about 2 weeks ago. I have a hard time rolling them tight. I watched the video that was posted earlier, but I can't seem to get it tight enough. Eventually I leave the wick rolled as tight as I can and then just roll and squeeze it between my fingers until it finally gets small enough in diameter that I can fit it in the wick hole. Is there any tips or tricks to rolling it tight other than that?

Thanks for your help so far!

I know that I'm able to roll a 1.5"x3" 500 mesh wick to be be 3/32" and that is pretty loose inside the wick hole. Once you have it rolled as tight as you can with 2 hands rolling, switch to just rolling from one end to the other several times with just your dominant hand.

Edit, also only roll in one direction, the direction that your wick is being rolled in.

A solid wick should wick better, but with my high VG juices it just wasn't wicking enough for me. The center channel allows the juice to roll down the middle of the wick when your device is tilted and wet the wick. So it isn't truly wicking via capillary action but you accomplish the goal. Just saying, if you are struggling with wicking issues and are using a solid wick, give one with a center channel a try. I had a hard time going against the grain myself but after about 5 wicks I tried a hollow one and it just works better for my thick juices.

Also, when I was having wicking issues, sometimes the top coils would glow before the bottom coils. I didn't have a short, it was just that the top of the wick dried out before the part that was closer to the juice (I think). Without a doubt though, make sure your coils are all glowing evenly before you add any juice.

Also, check this out A PBusardo Review - The DIDs - Genesis Style Rebuildable Attys - YouTube . The folding of the one edge over and using something to make the wick curl (like using scissors to make a ribbon curl) really helped me out. Also for some reason watching him roll his wick I had an epiphany and realized that I could basically use the same motion as rubbing your thumbs across your index finger (making the worlds smallest violin motion :p ) to get my wick rolled tight.

Hope some of that helps someone.

I run pretty much 100% VG on a solid 500 wick and it'll chain vape until the cows come home.

I need tips on how you do this please. Is your VG thinned with water or alcohol? How many mm of wick are you fitting in to the AGA wick hole? Do you tilt? Oxidization steps? I just can't figure out why my solid wick won't work. I am using #500 mesh. Fit nearly 70mm into the last one I made (without being tight in the wick hole)

p.s. Just so everyone knows, I am not saying that a solid #500 wick won't work. Not in any way because I am a relative n00b at this and I am sure there is something I can do that will eventually make it work. My previous comments are directed towards people like myself who couldn't get their AGA's running & need an alternative to get them up and running.

No thinning other than ~3% flavouring. I never measure my mesh but it's rolled completely solid and fits in the wick hole just snug enough to allow movement without scraping. Oxidization is as simple as torching the mesh once before rolling, rolling it, torching it again, then wrapping a coil.

All the quenching and juice burning etc does it result in a crusty wick that aside from being brittle and more prone to shorts, actually wicks worse than a lightly torched wick.

I have a 1.2ohm 30ga coil on a straight wick that wicks like a champ and a .8ohm 28ga coil on a U wick that wicks even better than that, I can't dry the thing out if I try.

Okay, I think I am going to try my next wick with just torching. No juice burning. See where that gets me. I was lightening up the juice burning already but I haven't had any issue with shorting so I think I can venture into just 2 passes of the torch oxidation and see where that gets me. I will report back when I get a chance to set it up and check results. Thanks st0nedp

A couple drops of distilled water in a 30ml bottle of 100% VG does wonders to thin it up a bit as well. You won't lose flavor to any noticeable degree, and it'll wick better.
