Hello, this is my first time on here and have a few questions! I have been looking around at all the different stuff there are to buy and not really sure what to consider as a first timer. I have been looking at the sid by smoktech I think it is called n I'm not sure if this is something for beginners or the more advanced but I have seen some good reviews on it and was thinking about buying it, but I am kind of confused as to what else to buy and what all I will need as a first timer. Thank you in advance -cbass

Howdy cbass welcome to the forum I am no expert but when I started I purchased a mini ego style starter kit which came with a battery tank and a charger, personally I was trying to get rid of cigarettes and bought it as an inexpensive "trail" I am not sure how you are planning to approach this and needless to say liquid is kind of important I would either look on ebay or google a starter kit some pretty cheap deal out there don't blow a lot of money to start just in case vaping isn't for you

I started my mother, wife and son-in-law off with the iTaste MPV's or iTaste VV. They are pretty solid if you can get them for a reasonable price (eBay). I outgrew the starter kit on day 2. You juice needs to taste good or you will set it aside. I like the Kanger Protank 2 mini's but there are other good reliable tanks out there as well.

Welcome and good luck to you.

Hi cbass and welcome to ECF. You will find that vaping is an individualized experience and there is a lot of good (and not so good) equipment on the market. Folks with way more experience than I have will probably have some great suggestions. I have no experience with the sid, but know it is VV/VW. Hopefully someone here can offer an opinion from experience.

I started pretty simply and my gear has stayed that way. My first set ups were eGo-t upgraded batteries and Kanger MT3S BCC (Bottom Coil Clearomizer) clearos. I still use the MT3S', but have added Vision Spinner VV (Variable Volt) batteries to my gear. I like having VV because different juices can have different sweet spots (with regard to voltage).

Whatever gear you decide on, be sure to get backups and backups for your backups. It was suggested to me from folks here that I never want a dead battery or equipment failure to give me an excuse for going back to analogs. That advice has served me well.

Also, don't forget that the juice is just as important as the gear (maybe even more important). The combination of good gear and juice that you like will really make vaping an awesome experience...way better than smoking, should you be using vaping to switch from analogs.

This whole vaping thing can sound complicated and confusing. But hang around here in ECF, keep asking questions, read a lot of the posts and you will catch on in fairly short order. And the cool thing is that we are all in this together. The folks here are really friendly, supportive and knowledgeable.

Again, you will get a number of good suggestions. I wish you well on the start of your vaping journey. Enjoy and namaste.

If you need a simple set up to try out vaping, eGo style kit will be a good starter. Just add juice.
Kanger eVod Kit - Stainless

If you are trying to quit cig and planning on vaping for long time, you will need to put together something little more robust.
Basically, you need "mod" (battery body) + "topper" (atomizer/tank) + "atomizer head" + battery/charger + juice

MVP2 a good choice for a step up. It has built-in battery which gets charged off USB. Also comes with iClear tank.
Innokin iTaste MVP V2.0

Other mods like SID uses removable battery. You will need to buy a few batteries and a charger. There are so many choices in this category, it is better to visit local store and pick one that feels good in your hand. SID is not a bad model but you should try holding it in your hand first.

Lastly, if you are willing to invest upfront, ProVari is a solid setup and will last many years.

You don't need a whole bag full of backups, If you have an APV get a backup for it, same goes for a Mech. That way you can have something to use inbetween the time it takes you to get something else you like. Always have an extra clearo carto RDA RBA etc an etc. Depending on how much you vape always have enough juice to satisfy that need, You wont find the best juice first crack ( unless your lucky ) Trial an Error will tell what you like with everything.

Hi cbass and welcome!

It really depends on your preferences and your budget, there are so many choices nowadays, but I like to recommend this kit:

http://www.myvaporstore.com/Vision_Spinner_Joye_Ego_C_Twist_Combo_p/vvs-c.htm

It gives you a choice of two variable voltage batteries, very good selection of heads (again you choose two of them), and a charger. All you need to add is some eliquid and extra coils.

This is a great introduction to vaping--good, soild hardware for a reasonable price.

Good luck!

I'm still pretty new to the game, about 2 months in. I'm not saying anything new, but here is my advice:

-get good tanks. Protank 2 mini and Ikenvape's Evod V2 are my current favorites. Easy to clean
-I'm weird, but this might work for you. I have one tank I use for tobacco ejuice, one for menthol, one for sweet flavors and so on. I keep 5 in rotation. It keeps cleaning simple and cuts down on flavors mixing.
-like others have said, have backups
-Find juices you like. Try stuff you might think you wouldn't like. Stuff that didn't look that good ends up being my favorite.

Welcome to vaping. Good luck.

I started with a Kanger EVOD kit. I quickley moved to Protank2, Efest batteries, and a VamoV5. I wish I would have started with the V5, but it's good to take baby steps in my opinion. Now, with that being said, I would recommend definitely skip a bare bones Ego style, and go straight to a variable voltage variable wattage device. You can get these in an Ego style form factor, and some of the devices already mentioned are great. It is a little more costly, but it opens so many more options and avoids a lot of frustration. Mini glass tanks are also great in the beginning.

Reason for my recommendations is because I had to learn about plastic tanks cracking on my own. I had to find out that by adjusting my voltage or wattage I could get much better taste from juices I thought I didn't care for. I learned more advanced devices aren't difficult to use. Now, in just over two months of vaping, I have multiple devices used for different things. Example is I use my Vamo V5 at home all day, I use my itazte VTR for when I am on the go. I have an iTazte SVD on the way for compact use at home. My original EVOD Ego battery is a trusty backup should I need it. I use my EVOD tanks for new flavors to try, and use my Nautilus and Protank 2 tanks for juices I have found I like and use more of through any given day. I am experimenting now with cartomizers, to see if that is for me.

Thank you all for your helpful and quick responses, I think I'm going to go with the kit that katya suggested in the post seems like a good place to start with out spending a lot of money. I went with the Vision Spinner VV eGo Battery 1300mAh , Joye eGo-C Twist Variable Voltage 1000mAh Battery, Kanger Protank - II - Clear, and Kanger MT3 eGo B/C Clearomizer - Stainless. I have picked out three different flavors that I think I might like and want to try but I am unsure what strength to get, is it just personal preference? Thank you all again and can't wait to join the vaping community.!

Hi cbass, I hope you'll be happy with this kit. Just a few thoughts:

The MT3 is the same inside as the T3 but has a heavy metal jacket which makes the eliquid inside less visible and diminshes the capacity of the clearomizer a bit. I'd rather get the T3, myself, unless you prefer the metal look. They perform pretty much the same. Also, bear in mind that Kanger has redesigned the T3's base--now it's called the T3S; when you buy extra coils, order a T3S new base and T3S replaceable coils. They are much cheaper than the old bases:

MT3 to MT3S Conversion Base

or

T3 to T3S Conversion Base

and

Atomizer Head for Kanger MT3S, T3S

Or get an eVod--it looks just like the MT3 but a bit smaller and it comes with 'correct' bases and coils--you won't have to worry about updating anything.

Kanger PT II is a very good topper but it's wider in diameter than your batteries, so just be aware of it--your PV will look a bit top heavy. The tank comes with a 'beauty ring' which covers the outside threads of eGo batteries. If you want a tank that's smaller and mounts flush on the battery, choose the ProTank mini II--it's designed specifically for eGos.

Wrt eliquids, get small bottles of various strengths: 12 and 24 mg/ml is a good idea--so you can vary the strength of your juice as needed; you can mix them up, also. Most people start somewhere between 24 and 12 mg and then gradually taper down. Some need more than 24, others less. You'll have to experiment a little to figure out what your body needs.

When I started, I mostly vaped 12 mg, but I had a bottle of unflavored base in 24 mg/mg on hand and used it to fortify my 12 mg juices when I needed more nic. It diluted the flavor a little, but I didn't care. Worked for me.

Good luck.
