I began using a Kensington battery pack & usb pass thru---loving it! Kinda disapointed when I have to go to work & switch back to my regular 901 batts. They seem kinda wussy now.

I like the kick of that Kensington (5 volts, right?) but I can't carry it around. I've been known to snap several headphone cords right in half just walking around at work. (My secret identity is Super Klutz)

I'd like to try out something but don't know where to even begin. I'd like something light & portable--if that can be done.

I have resources available...as in my dad works in a machine shop and my husband is very mechanically inclined--has all sorts of tools & is going to night school for welding cert.

Don't know exactly what skills, tools, or batteries I'd need to look into. Have any suggestions for me?
Do I need four small CR batteries, or can I get two 3 volt batteries? I'm kinda dumb when it comes to this stuff.

If you are thinking about building a PV that's 5-6V and relatively discreet, you can use a 2x AA battery holder and modify it to take 2x 15270 3.0V CR2 batteries. These are unprotected batteries, so keep that in mind.

A mod that would take x2 RCR123A protected cells would require something with a larger battery compartment, perhaps a modded flashlight.

Here's a link to one that Burnie made, it's a larger box mod (4x AA box), but still relatively small. It runs at 5V with the voltage regulator.

Here's another one that's 6V that warp1900 made.

All of these mods are easy to build with a short list of tools and a little patience. The cost of the parts are extremely affordable.

Look at the Super-T. It is the slimmest mod-type device available and very lightweight. With the optional extension sleeve to accommodate 2 CR2 batteries (for a total of 6 volts), the total length is 4 3/8". Diameter is approximately that of a dime. It has nice safety and design features and seems to be pretty rugged. Adapters are available for the 801, 901 and 510 atomizers. The Super-T currently has the best warranty in the industry - three years. (Super T Manufacturing)

The AdapteveR looks very solid and simple to operate. This device has a user replacable button in the event one stops frunctioning. It has a high-voltage extension sleeve option and has adapters for the favorite atomizers. The only drawback I have read about this device was a comment from mamacat and Spikey that someone with small hands may not find it comfortable to operate. (AdapteveR Home of the ORIGINAL USA built PV)

If you absolutely cannot deal with a bottom button, the Silver Bulet looks terrific and very durbable.

Lots of neat stuff out there! I guess I'm gonna have to put some serious time & research into all of this. The Altoids tin looked pretty neat. Thinking I would like to have something I could just shove into my jeans pocket for conveinence at work...I need to reaserach batteries & types I suppose.
I might just look into that Altoids tin thing. Those tins are pretty small huh? Looks simple enough....
