I've been trying to quit smoking in every way imaginable for YEARS. It wasn't until a little over a month ago that I finally put cigarettes behind me for good.

I used to spend a lot of time over at becomeanex.org and I thought I would go back there this morning to share my experience of how vaping has helped me quit.

How silly am I?

This entire morning has been nothing but bashing and lies from people over there who have quit smoking years ago by using other methods (cold turkey, patches, gum, etc.), or by people who are still struggling not to pick up that first cigarette of the day in an attempt at yet another quit. I know that people believe crazy things about ecigs. I've read the propaganda stories that are out there. I've also spent many hours pouring over CASAA's website, and I know the truth.

I think it's really sad that people are so quick to believe what they read. They have an answer staring many of them in the face, yet they choose to ignore it. I feel for them. I really do. :(

When facts don't align with strongly held emotional beliefs people tend to behave like cornered rattlers. It's human nature so I don't let it get under my skin. Sometimes they will listen to gently stated reason, sometimes not. I figure if someone willfully chooses to remain ignorant it's their loss not mine.

I went on that site after you posted this and found this: BecomeAnEX.org Online Quit Smoking Support Network: oldbones5358 (Larry Oct-21-2013)'s blog: The danger of an e-cig?

Yes, Cave. I think that post was written after I wrote my own blog post there this morning.

It's so difficult to "argue" with them because they just believe the lies they've read or heard. One member wrote:

Here's some problems with what you write:

Big tobacco IS the E Cig Business.

E cigarettes remain unregulated.

E cigarette cartridges are a danger to children.

E cigarettes contain prpyline glycol. Look it up.

E cigarettes contain metals such as nickel, tin, and aluminum fine particles that you are breathing into your lungs as well as silicate(glass.)

You are still paying money to damage your health.

I wish all of them were that "nice". Most of them were downright mean. It's too bad. I agree that you can't lead a horse to water. I wish you could.

I'm not going to waste my time there anymore. It was worth a try though.

I just found your original post. I am going to read it and the comments now. So far, from what I have seen, most of these people sound a bit loony. They all sound like they are high on chantix or something. Like the things they are saying just seem a bit like the things I would hear in the loony bin. Not to be mean, just how I feel about it...

Can you Get a private message to some of them? Surely you've made some friends there that you'd like to enlighten?

That's a good question. I might be able to do that. I don't have a whole lot of "friends" there, only because my only quit attempts were failures for so long. I ended up abandoning the site quite a bit. I can surely try though!

I haven't checked, but if they follow allen carr's way, yes, then they would tend to believe e cigs are just continuing addiction to nicotine-well, if that works for them, I guess to each their own. I do commend op for trying though even amongst the negativity/anti e cig rebuttle stuff-perhaps someone who's stuggling and reads your posts, and finds current way becomes to unbearable, your info may be of help still. the allen carr way didn't work for me-good intentions but pretty hardcore-only time I could do that way/cold turkey more or less was during pregnancy(2 x's!)

These people are so closed minded!!!!!! I just read all the comments and they are like talking to a wall!!!! I understood your point and it has nothing to do with me being on your side. I see that you simply went there to inform other users that you have found a way to finally quit WHEN NO OTHER OPTION HAS WORKED. They seem to think that you are saying everyone in the world should use a PV even if they have no problem quitting without one. That is not the point, it is just that there is a new option for someone who can't go cold turkey or with gum, etc....

I also don't understand this whole mentality with the approved smoking cessation. It makes no sense. Why do you need someone else to tell you (a regulatory body more specifically) that something works to help you quit smoking? It's so funny how people say "well it isn't an approved smoking cessation device", who gives an F! If it works for you it works. People just completely disregard vaping because their "nanny" isn't telling them it works (and that is only due to ulterior motives).

They're all SO much better than me over there at that site! Wow...I've truly seen the error of my ways.

Alto, just in case you don't make it over there to see my reply to you (and I wouldn't blame you if you didn't), I truly appreciate the support!

I'm so glad to be a part of this community. I can only hope and pray that other people can make their way here eventually.

Here is part of what I posted over there (I think this is their real problem with vapers)

"My best guess is that they are jealous that you still get to indulge in a habit (yes vaping is a habit) that gives more pleasure (yes more pleasure) than traditional cigarettes, is a fraction of the cost, likely has minimal negative health effects (if any) and has such a great community:)"

Anyone else agree that this is really about their jealousy that we have found a 1,000,000% better alternative to smoking?
