You made me laugh Robin. The puppy had that look on her face, because she came barreling by me, to pause for a drink. I was on the porch, trying to keep my camera safe from the sleet. She was running like crazy out there. You know when their whole hind end is almost to their elbows? She can run like the wind, and turn on a dime. She wanted me to play with her out there, like I usually do. But I didn't want to mess up my camera. (plus it was brutally cold) It was all I could do to try to get a photo of her for even a moment, without it being nothing but a blur...

Here is the sad face, when she realized I wasn't gonna play.

Sam, that dog doesn't even remotely look like the first picture. Wow. I never heard of a do it yourself groom shop. That is cool. My dog won't be still for anything. I need to clean her ears, and file her nails. She acts like she has ants in her pants...lol. Old saying, I know... My mother used to say that about my brother all the time. I really need an assistant to hold my dog still. I wish I had one tenth the energy she does.

I guess all that talk about food has some of y'all cooking up a storm. Robin was right about food, and procedures. Don't forget the aches and pains. I can say that because sometimes I complain about my arthritis. :) I'm not a spring chicken anymore. My mother loves to tell me that too.

Took Sadie to the do-it-yourself dog grooming place in Meridian, I made myself a new dog.

I had to have my mom go with me, it takes 2 people to groom her. She gets to wiggling and will wiggle herself off the table.

I never knew a quick in the nail could bleed so much. Between my recliner, my jeans and a bath mat it looks like something died here lol.

She is not phased in the slightest but she wants to lick it and I can't find the cone of shame...

Dusty seems to love southern cuisine Papaw....I was looking at this tho! :p

....but they are joking right? Southern cuisine in Boston? Forpetessake!

Crisp fried chicken livers with orange marmalade, fried tobacco onion, and garlic seared greens.
Estelle’s Southern Cuisine (Boston, MA)

Who would ruin fried chicken livers like that?

Well duh, a damn Yankee of course! :p

We got a hairy cat that's all knotted up. No chance in hell she would ever allow anyone to shave her down like that. Not in a million years. She has to be anesthetized.

:glare: For shame, Bronze. Don't let her get that way in the first place!! Don't you know those mats just get tighter and tighter, and pull badly at her skin? Poor puddy-tat!

I've heard (but never needed to try) that a bar of soap can help the bleeding at the quick, you just press the nail into it. My dogs would lick it off I'm sure. We have one of those places here, maybe I'll try it next week. I have a little Stiszu that I groom at home, but I bet the equipment at the shop is better than what I have.

It was awesome it took 3 fresh clipper blades to completely get her shaved because the first 2 got dull, they had every kind of comb and brush and scissors. I made a huge mess and didn't have to clean it up, and it only cost $16 and a tip because the girl helped.

I'm on my way to the store to get some wrap to put on her food overnight. Keep her from making it worse.

Yes, nails are bleeders. Keep an eye and make sure it doesn't get infected.

We hadn't combed her for years and she never matted up. Lately she has. She's my wife's cat so she should comb her. I feed the thing and she sleeps on me all the time so I do enough for that cat. :)

Bronze, is the cat older and overweight? My daughter's cat is, and she has been getting tangles too. When she was younger and thin, she kept it nice and groomed. Now that she is old, and let's be honest, fat...she doesn't seem to care about her appearance. I check her every so often, and if I feel a tangle, I cut it out, before it gets worse. She is not long haired either. I do comb her about once every ten days to two weeks. She sheds like crazy. Now my son's cat (who is now my cat) rarely needs combing. She is several years younger than the older cat. The younger one rarely sheds. I guess I am stuck with both cats. My old cat died of liver disease last year. It was terrible. She had longer hair, and did not shed hardly at all. I never "had" to comb her fur. The younger cat was either a wild kitten left by her mom, or somebody dropped her off here. Nobody wanted her. She took to my son, and claimed him. He loved playing with her. But when he went into the service, she finally gave up on him. Now she thinks I am her "person". I only get to see my son once a year on average now. The cat comes over to see him while he is here, but he looks different now to her. When he finally gets out of the service, she may reclaim him. Time will tell. I don't mind her around here. She goes after any bugs that fly in at night. (during the warm months) She is a huntress, and earns her keep. She loves for me to take the dog out, and watches for moths or something to come in. My son's dog is another story altogether. I never cared much for him, because he is a pain in the rear. He is a varmit catcher, and a high fence climber. When he is outside, he has to be in a pen, with a covered top too. My puppy has made it her life's mission to release him from his "prison". She tries to get in, he tries to get out. I try to hold the fort down.

Sirius, some dogs are scared of dremels. My dog doesn't care for it, but I made sure when she was young, that I used it every few days. Now it is hard to get her to be still long enough to use one. Her nails don't need it anyway. She has been doing a lot of running, and digging. She wears them down naturally.

She's old (15, but doesn't know it) and skinny. We try fattening her up but it's no use. Cats do what cats want to do. She weighs 6-1/2 pounds. 5-3/4's of it is hair. She got knotty when she was young but then here in the last 10 - 12 years not at all. Now she's getting knotty again. I'm just gonna have her shaved down. Not to the nubs but maybe half of what she is. This will give you an idea. Most of the time her whole head is tucked in and you cannot tell which end is which unless you wake her up.
