I am still using a flip phone from the early 2000's, I'm not sure how old it is. The smart phones and Alexia type devices seem too intrusive to me. I am reminded of a kid who was talking to a farmer down the road whose phone was ringing; the farmer was ignoring it. The kid wanted to know why he didn't answer it. The farmer said, "Son, I finally got that thing put in for my convenience. And, I'm talking to you now." My mindset exactly.
I can see the tech allure and I have thought about it. But I can also see that instant and complete availability to the world is something that I prefer to do with out. I used to watch lawyers in the Courtroom and those poor souls were absolutely tethered to their clients by the device. They couldn't even eat lunch without the phone on the table interrupting conversation and their chewing.
My lovely wife and my daughter both have smart phones and they pay a bunch each month, I pay $32 and (secretly, I don't like paying that much only to have my reverie interrupted). I can text on my phone but it is too frustrating for me to bother - that drives my daughter batty, she is a texter. My wife just goes with the flow, she doesn't text me, so, if she calls, I know it's important. When I discovered text by email, that mollified the daughter immensely.
This is probably the longest post that I have ever written and I apologize for boring you all. I probably should have made that the first sentence so everyone could pass it over.
