I like magnolias. I planted one on one side of my house. It is the Little Gem, and they don't get nearly as big. It also has beautiful blooms. The only thing I don't like about magnolias is when they drop their leaves. The leaves don't break down very fast. If you hit them with a weedeater, they tend to slap you back.

anyone figure out the difference between... scream, yell, and shout? are they all the same??

Difference in pitch and the intention behind the use of each, i.e.; how do I want you to react to my voice? Best defined by considering the cause.

Most often, but not always:

Screams are in response to fright or frustration. It’s best to avoid people who like to scream if you value your ears and your sanity.

Yells are in response to anger. Also fright or frustration if the person lacks a good scream voice.

Shouts can be in response to anything from joy to despair. Also used all the time by those who demand to be heard.

There’s a lot of crossover. If I shout at you in anger, you will probably interpret it as me yelling.

:)

ShowMe, that is a beautiful dog. Yes, the big dog I talk about is the dog in the photo. She is heavier than that now, and more mature. Papaw has a couple of dogs that are the same kind as mine. The dogs are half German Shepherd and half Aussie. My dog is smart as a whip, too smart at times. I often have to spell in front of her, that is no joke. She is my companion, but also my helper. She keeps the other pets here in line for me. If they are acting up, all I have to do is say their name a certain way or give a look. That is all it takes for my dog to let them know that bad behavior is not acceptable and to cease the action immediately.

The small dog is just a companion, but a good watch dog too for her size. She was my mother's dog, but my mother couldn't deal with her. I potty trained her for my mom, but she was still too much for her. So by then I knew the dog was attached to me and my dog. So I kept her, but it has been a strain financially to do that. I do her haircuts myself, since I can't afford to pay someone to do that. She is almost two years old now, and the big dog is working up to her 5th year. I doubt if I get another dog in my life time. When my big dog goes, it is going to kill me. The little dog may outlive me, who knows.

    Thanks Kkay59!

I like your dog she is very cute. Haha, yes…the spelling thing I know exactly what you mean.

Isn't that just how it goes with dogs you train for someone else and they end up being yours? We had one of those too.

After mine go I don't think I'll get anymore which is a zinger but I'm not 100% on that. For me the thought of a pet outliving me - ouch - unless I have someone lined up who would take them. I know my younger brother will take mine if something happens.

I love Aussie's. Had an blue merle Aussie back in the 90's. He was a real character!

Both beautiful! What a great story. I knew a cat with markings like yours. She had quite a feisty personality! :)
    Thanks LA! :)

Yes mine is very feisty and always into everything too.

She is a calico. My other cat is also a calico. I have yet to see a male calico.

From Wikipedia: A Calico cat is a domestic cat with two X chromosomes (almost always a female) who is typically about 25% to 75% white and also has mostly large patches of (usually) orange and black or (sometimes) cream and grey. Calico cat - Wikipedia

Total junk! Pintos, Mavericks, n Comets right there too. Chevy Chevette.

I shamefaced have to admit that I, in my poverty stricken days, owned a Chevy Shovette.

Magnolias are in full bloom. Funny, only a few flowers on each tree but they are absolutely gigantic.

    th

There is a Courthouse in Jessamine County, KY that has a huge Magnolia tree in front. I have no in idea how old it is but, given its size, it may have been planted when the Courthouse was built with completion in 1878. Just stunning. I have been unable to find a good picture of it, plenty of pictures of local politicians but none of the tree.

A good friend of mine bought a brand new Shovette. It died at 38,000 miles. Way more repairs than what it was worth. Has to be the biggest piece of crap car I ever saw.

    Ok, I'm LMAO.

    Here are some more:

The wife had a Vega complete with rusting out floorboard in the back. Flintstones! Got it from her older brother. She also had a very bright yellow Gremlin for a short time - yikes, talk about ugly.

My Mom had a powder blue Maverick it was really, ummm, ugly.

Older brother had a Pinto and later an AMC Alliance which was also piece of crap.

I don't think AMC ever made a good car.

If you recall, American car maker's answer to Honda and Toyota (which were gaining popularity in the 70's) was the Pinto, Maverick, and Vega. What a horrible response! All it did was demonstrate how much better the foreign cars were than the American cars. And as the saying goes, "The rest is history".

Agreed but I didn't get to pick them out. I always got shortchanged, or better yet - sternly overruled, with picking pets. Other than my Aussie!!!

How about 3??? Yes sir, the current German shepherd is also a female. The pic I posted the other day was a male and he's been gone a few years.

I prefer male dogs just because they train real easy. Females, arghhh, lets just say they can be very strong willed...the battle of wills. Oh ooooo ya hmmm, that applies to women too!

It’s hard to comprehend how anyone sees beauty like the Magnolia and still concludes there was no Creator. :)

I had a lovely magnolia tree in PA. Petite white blossoms. I have so many pics of that tree when it bloomed! Every year it filled me with wonder and gratitude. The pics all look the same and I might wonder why I kept taking them. But really I know I was just trying to capture what can’t ever be captured on film.

In my house there were six female humans and one female feline. Even as a woman that was more females than I could happily deal with.

So, while I could stand up for my gender right now, I have to agree that female willfulness is a whole ‘nother thing from male willfulness.

Though I will say a willful man is no picnic. ;)

Good Afternoon Army. Home for a few days...
Driving north on NC57 (rural route north of Durham, bypasses Durham to Roxboro) on a bright sunny morning. NO traffic on the two-lane. easing along at 55mph ...
Work van runs a stop sign and darts into my lane from the right. 45 feet in front of me. 73000 lbs @ 55mph.
Point of impact was my front right corner to his driver's side front corner. spun him 270* and rolled him 270*, so he landed on his drivers' door facing the direction I was coming from. Impact also shoved my right steering tire back eight inches along the leaf spring and bent the steering cross arm, so I was going to make a right turn whether I wanted to or not. Across a 5' wide 3' deep ditch and onto a grassy area near the intersection. Came to a stop maybe ten feet from the woods line.

The State Police informed me that the other driver did not have a Driver's License, or insurance, or could understand English. He got a really quick primer when he tried to tell me "You Stop !" (ECF regulations will not allow my to post my response).
It took two Class 8 wreckers to get me out of the grass and onto the roadway again. The lumber, still secured to the trailer, was delivered to the customer 15 miles away, and another driver who had delivered in Cary was rerouted to bring me home. But as the day went by, my neck began to stiffen and hurt (same area from last year) so it looks like I am home for the rest of the week. Although I did have to return to work for a DOT Incident Report, and a drug & alcohol test.
Maybe now I will finally get some 'promises' in the mail.

I thought that my association with a Vega and Shovette was bad but a Vega, a Gremlin, a Maverick, Pinto and an Alliance - your family is cursed.

A female Beagle, training is an exercise in futility. I gave up and just decided she was a good dog (for a Beagle).

I guess it wasn't your day, Pops. Why is every one in such a big hurry in the middle of nowhere? That's tobacco country you're in (or it used to be anyway).

Did the other guy sustain injuries?

Nice tie down of your cargo, BTW!

That is AWFUL! I’m so glad you are okay, Brett. And I’m sorry your neck is injured. I know you don’t want to go through that pain again. My prayers are with you. Wow!

USED to be Tobacco Road. Now it's mostly Solar Farms.
The other driver banged his head against the driver's window. He was up and walking around before the EMT's laid him down and called for an ambulance.
