Are we related? My younger brother had a Vega, my older brother had a Pinto and my first car was a powder blue Maverick bought from my mom the day I got my drivers license (btw- don't believe what they tell you about little old ladies driving a car only to church on Sundays, that car had a v8 in it and mom had a lead foot). My older sister broke the mold, she had a '63 Corvette with a racing clutch. :w00t:

Maybe we are related! ;) No doubt they were all, can I say, popular cars at the time - crappers but popular.
Gotta watch them lead footed momma's ---> right you are and I love it. Mine wasn't :glare: hmmm.
Your sister, awesome - I mean come on a '63 vette. I'm still jonesing for one!
    Nice to meet you @WhiteHighlights ! :)

@PapawBrett I hope you and your neck get to feeling better. Smelly foot truck - hmmm - never heard that before! As a young boy I always wanted to a ride in a big rig, never happened. I still do --- really a lot. Not enough to ask at 59 though! I just love big rigs.

I remember back in the 60's when my parents would load us up in the station wagon for a trip and we would pass the truckers and I always did the air horn sign! I was so happy when that air horn blasted 2-3 times and the truck driver would smile and give a thumbs up.

I used to watch that truck driving show...what's the name, oh yeah - Ice Road Truckers. I can't imagine driving across frozen lakes with a big rig + full load. The music was so Jaws like every crossing. And the wear and tear those trucks take, crazy.

Take good care of yourself! Hey, an idea strikes...ever consider going to a massage therapist. Just a thought.

In my house there were six female humans and one female feline. Even as a woman that was more females than I could happily deal with.

This did not immediately register in the noggin' yesterday...with any kind of swiss watch precision. It was kind of a gear grinding moment in my brain. I was speechless...until today!

That has to be one of the four steps to sainthood!!! :nun:

Working dogs, yes absolutely. My favorite. I love spicy dogs. Intense + driven = bring it on.

I've been around German shepherds from my earliest memories. We always had at least one (childhood) and all from my uncle. My uncle imported and trained GS's for a living all european stock. Mostly schutzhund which is protection, obedience and tracking. Many of his dogs went on to become police officers, private security and to folks who wanted/needed protection dogs. My uncle taught us a lot and it was always great fun being around so many shepherds at his kennel. He trained horses too. Dogs and horses - a boys best friends!!! I learned how to ride bareback from him - yes guys can do it (and no the junk isn't affected).

Dogs are pack animals (so are horses) and if you understand pack dynamics you can "read" any dog in five minutes or so. Watching a litter over the course of 12 weeks, or longer, you learn who is who and they learn who is who. You learn which ones are pet quality and which ones may become something special.

Temperament = the key to all with any breed. The best predictor is always lineage. HQ breeders have that history dating back generations. Pedigree. There are testing methods and there are testing methods - I've seen most.

In our country there are no "real" standards and that is a shame. I could argue there should be and they ought to be tough. Quality standards would eliminate the puppy mills and many, if not most, breeders outright. In Germany there are strict requirements for breed value number (hips not $) and breeding.

This is my current shepherds father being put through the paces. He was very gifted and 'special'.

The following video is him apprehending a fake criminal with a gun. Turn the volume up. No dog was harmed or hurt in this video it's all part of schutzhund training. Honestly this is ALL play for the dog. The lady you hear issuing the commands is a good friend of ours and frankly one of the best trainers around. She rivals any male trainer and honestly we always thought her superior to most.

That video was amazing. Incredible precision and instant obedience. Very cool!

Isn't it? I go out to her place once a month, sometimes more, with my dog. She still has one of my dogs litter mates and they play and roughhouse. It's a ton of fun when the police and sheriff's come out for additional work/training. Watching them put their 'canine officers' through the paces is soooo awesome. Precision at its finest.

ShowMe, I loved your dog post. My dog heard all that going on, and she was doing a low whine. Her mom was the GSD, and she had the old time build for a GSD. I prefer that myself, but to each his own. My dog is amazing, but she could use some fine tuning. She wasn't afraid of loud sounds until my neighbor's tree started dropping big limbs out there. Then she went into panic mode. After that she was scared of thunderstorms. Now she is just a little afraid, but only if it is very bad. The thunder shirt did nothing for her. When she was a few months old, I took her out in the country. Some friends were doing some target practice. I brought her there to see her reaction. She did great, and the sound didn't bother her. I have never had a dog this smart before. Partly it is the time I've spent with her, and lots of training when she was young. She is an indoor dog, and my constant companion. I talk to her all the time, that is how she knows so many words. She did like kids, but hasn't been around any in a while. She doesn't like strange dogs, and that is a problem though. It took a long time to get her to accept the little dog, but now they are buddies.

I had time to rethink the mirage thing...

if a mirage showed up on a lake it would be a desert ( since deserts have mirages of water on them ) and a second mirage would show up on the desert mirage of water...
therefore you would see a mirage of water on water ;)

unlesss... there is actually a desert island there in the middle of the water and its covered by a mirage of water..:rolleyes::)

Good Afternoon Army. Home for a few days...
Driving north on NC57 (rural route north of Durham, bypasses Durham to Roxboro) on a bright sunny morning. NO traffic on the two-lane. easing along at 55mph ...
Work van runs a stop sign and darts into my lane from the right. 45 feet in front of me. 73000 lbs @ 55mph.
Point of impact was my front right corner to his driver's side front corner. spun him 270* and rolled him 270*, so he landed on his drivers' door facing the direction I was coming from. Impact also shoved my right steering tire back eight inches along the leaf spring and bent the steering cross arm, so I was going to make a right turn whether I wanted to or not. Across a 5' wide 3' deep ditch and onto a grassy area near the intersection. Came to a stop maybe ten feet from the woods line.

The State Police informed me that the other driver did not have a Driver's License, or insurance, or could understand English. He got a really quick primer when he tried to tell me "You Stop !" (ECF regulations will not allow my to post my response).
It took two Class 8 wreckers to get me out of the grass and onto the roadway again. The lumber, still secured to the trailer, was delivered to the customer 15 miles away, and another driver who had delivered in Cary was rerouted to bring me home. But as the day went by, my neck began to stiffen and hurt (same area from last year) so it looks like I am home for the rest of the week. Although I did have to return to work for a DOT Incident Report, and a drug & alcohol test.
Maybe now I will finally get some 'promises' in the mail.
So glad you're ok,Brett. I was in a similar accident years ago but it was loaded log truck versus car.Scary stuff.

hmmm no PTSD? ;) My insurance agent told me of a case where someone claimed PTSD after the accident and it was so bad it kept them from getting into a car ever again... and they got over 1.8 million in settlements for that and injuries and loss of a bunch of other "stuff".... o_O

Good Morning Army. Neck is feeling better, range of motion near normal. Should be able to return to work Monday.

Have a Safe and Blessed Day :)

That’s good news! Glad to hear your neck is healing quickly. Keep resting this weekend! Mamaw’s honey do list will have to wait. ;)
