But............Mondays are NEVER good!

well... we had to pick at least one day of the week to be the bad day... so Monday was it. We could have chosen any other day but it really wouldnt work out... Having Tuesday as the bad day would be counterproductive since you already had Monday out of the way, and besides Monday was the day that made your weekend too short. If we made Wendsday the bad day, we would have to work 2 days in a row after having a short weekend due to Monday... and yet, have to come to work on Tuesday with a good attitude knowing your going to have a bad Wendsday ahead of you and you just got done with 2 days of faking happy days since Monday shortened the weekend. Now since Thurday is rolling up soon, we could make that the bad day, but everyone is starting to get excited about Friday being just around the corner and an up coming weekend too... So we'll leave Thursday alone since Friday is the next day. Making Friday the bad day is just plain silly... Everyone is all hyped up since the weekend is like almost right now and plans are being made to have a fun weekend... There has been talk of making Saturday the bad day, but its the weekend day, and law forbids making a weekend day a bad day. So, Saturday and Sunday are safe from being bad days... which leaves Monday...

:D

Hey Arm. Another rainy one today.

A day of rest for the General? I will be changing my mower blades today. I have two sets. One is on the mower and the other one will go to Brother Deere's place to be sharpened. I am the world's worst blade sharpener. so $3/blade for three blades gives a good edge that will last a year - a bargain for the "acutely challenged".

Every year at this time, I contemplate putting anti-seize compound on the bolts holding the blades. It take a four foot cast iron pipe into which I slip my socket handle and proceed to herniate myself getting the bolts to break free. Kroil and other such penetrating chemicals don't work because the head of the bolt meets the washer solidly keeping anything from soaking in. But every year, I chicken out fearing the blades loosening.

Go with the anti-seize.

I just use the crap sold at the auto parts store. They even sell it in those little mini packets at the counter if you think you'll never use it again.

I think that is the copper type, spoken of so highly by BK. I am getting a tube, that way I have something to forget where I put it before I need it again.

I'm sure it is copper. Most all of it is. There is also graphite based anti-seize but probably more a specialty purchase. There is also straight grease anti seize. Straight grease will melt out in higher temperature applications. Not even sure you can find it anymore. Copper or graphite will not melt out in almost all cases. Copper works on almost all applications us boneheads would ever use it for. I believe the graphite is used for super hot applications and probably costs a lot more.

use the copper type for the blades, and use a thin coating ( since it is blades) on the threads but use a fair amount between the bolt head/washer/blade contact points...

The graphite ( the grey stuff) is more common ( back in the 70/80s) and costs less than the copper type. Both will "cook out" equally under hi temp applications, but the graphite "dries out" also which sometimes makes taking things apart a tad more difficult than the copper version. ( this was proven time after time on huge deisel engine exhaust manifold/pipe flange bolts)... but I dont think your drive shaft for the blade will ever get that hot, even if it is the driveshaft from the motor... ;) those exhaust manifold bolts would get to the glowing cherry red point... and that cooks off everything but the carbon from the exhaust fumes/smoke.

And yet, each year you are willing to rethink it and question your past decisions. That’s gotta be worth something. Best of all, this year you asked those who’ve proven their know-how in such things. Plus you are taking their advice this time. Well done!

Las Vegas is still standing. Our condo is in good shape. We are here for a few days checking out the place and grabbing some things we will need. Then it’s back to LA.

A package was delivered here in March. A belated birthday gift from a client. How shocked was I to see it was still here?!? It was a plant, which obviously didn’t make it. But the terra cotta pot it came in is absolutely beautiful. One day when we stop being nomadic, it will hold a lovely plant again.

Small miracles make life better. :)
