That's what just went out on mine a month and a half ago. $17.15 and I swapped it out myself. But my old one was limping along enough to keep working for the two days while I waited for the new one to ship. When the AC goes out, there is no living with women. Sometimes there's no living with them even if the AC doesn't go out. Right Chak?Good Morning Army. Capacitor in my AC crapped out sometime last night. About 5 or 6 years ago, a friend of my older stepson sold me a universal capacitor off of his truck for $35, and I installed it myself. This time - $225 for an "emergency" call from our service company.
But. Mamaw and Judy have cold air again. Now I can loaf around for awhile.

Tip O the Day for the Army: If you have an AC unit that is 8 years old or older, get yourself a replacement capacitor and keep it on your shelf. They're cheap enough and can save you big bucks having to call a repair guy in. Just order the correct spec that can be found on the side of the capacitor or your manual. There are plenty of You Tube vids showing how to change it out. Might just want to change it whether you need to or not...especially if you have a unit that is 12+ years old because it is just a matter of time before they go out and then you're up a creek without a paddle.
