There is also the matter of respect. My parents have known I smoked since I was 17 years old. My mother asked me, and I said yes. She asked me if I did or intended to do any other substances, and I said no.
She'd remind me every now and again about how smoking was bad for me, and I should work on stopping. I always told her I'd stop when I was ready.
Not once, until I quit smoking almost 3 years ago, did I ever smoke a cigarette in front of them. Maybe it's just a weird Indian thing.

Understand that too Dust. I would never swear in front of my Mother. She did not like cussing and I knew it would hurt her. She knew I'd cuss with other people. But I would never dare do it in front of her (even though I'd slip up once in awhile). It was a respect thing. And I respected my Mother through and through.
