Hi there,

I bought a vaping kit and no matter what I do every hit I take I cough my brains out.

Now the lowest cart (nic wise) I currently have is 16mg. and I have smoked pretty much nothing but lights and ultra lights for around 15 years, before that full strength Marl reds for around ten.

I've read that the liquid comes in two types a vegetable source and another...does anyone think it could be the type I'm using or is it the amount of nic is just too high? I've searched here and it seems no one else has complained of this. I find that remarkable, I surely can't be the only one who has/is experiencing this. It could just be my search foo is weak, but I couldn't find anything.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Ronster;

Generally speaking...anything that makes you cough is bad. If you had some mix juice I would have told you to try vaping straight PG and then straight VG (simple process of elimination) to find out exactly WHAT is causing you to cough.

All in all, if it's a lot of coughing--stop vaping and send off for some 'sample' juices and mix juices--and find out.

It may be too much nicotine--but I don't know--it's your call.

I noticed you've only got one post. I take that to mean you are new. Perhaps your equipment is new. Maybe it's that primer coat on you atomizer?

Finally, I'd get a magnifing glass and a flash light. I'd pull the cartridge off the atomizer and check the filler for burnt or melted filler material. Then check down inside the atomizer and make sure it's clean--no roasted bugs in there?.

Other than the above possibilitlies--I don't know.

Ok, I don't understand all of that. I have some juice in bottles and some empty carts, are you talking about using that? I'm sorry but I'm very new to this and don't understand all the abbreviations yet, what does PG and VG mean? If you're referring to the 2 different kinds of carriers they use, yes that would be a very good idea. If that's what you mean, could you point me to a link to get some?

Are you using an auto or a manual switch PV? I was using mine like a regular cig at first & it wasn't really seeming to do much, so I started over-inhaling - which made me cough & my chest ache a bit.

Then I saw an explanation of "primer puffs" on autos & that made a difference in effectiveness... but I did give myself coughing fits a few times before I found the balance between enough & too much.

Just a thought... but other than that user error stuff I haven't had coughing issues, so definately check out the suggestions others gave you.

Good luck - RR

Edit: Oops didn't even answer your question - LoL.

I'm very happy with My Freedom Smokes for juice & they do have PG (propaline glycol) & (VG) vegetable glycerin available individually. Look at the very bottom of the page here: PG & VG. Most juice retailers have them. If you are trying to test for sensitivity just make sure you get the PG & VG individually & not "unflavored smoke juice" because that's usually a mixture of both & some bits of other stuff, I think.

You can actually get them at stores, but I'm not totally clear on what exactly is the correct stuff. There are plenty of threads here about it though. Someone should be able to point you at one.

Automatic, with each cart containing an atomizer. I have done exactly that, two little primer puffs to get the atomizer heated (no inhale) then a slow drag, then I inhale, then I cough uncontrollably. So I tried taking quicker drags, (drawing slowly but not nearly as long) a little better but still coughing, so I tried taking minute, baby drags, still would cough.

Despite the coughing, I can tell that this is something I could really replace analogs with, just have to find what will work I guess.

Excellent!

Thanks for the site, will be ordering that. Wouldn't it be interesting if I react to one but not another? I'm hoping that helps.

I coughed for about a week when I started vaping, it was like an uncontrollable urge that started with a tickle in my throat, which burned too. I quit analogs the day I started vaping. I could not handle the Marlboro cartridges that came with the kit, I had bought some cream soda juice that I added to those carts. It seemed to help mellow out the harshness. Once I got used to vaping the sore throat and cough totally went away. maybe some of the initial coughing is from my lungs cleaning out the tar from smoking analogs. I have never coughed up anything like other people say they do. But I remember the first week of vaping I wondered if something was wrong. Then I read on here that it is common at first.I used VG juice in the beginning, not PG, but now I use PG.I know that using a PV is better than smoking analogs so I stuck with the PV and am glad I did.

Hi,

I'm new to vaping - but smoked roll ups for about 10 years. I've had no coughing - and I'm on 36mg on all my TW juices. Do you cough when you just mouth intake or on the inhale?

Try ordering a no flavour juice, see if that stops it.

No, it's on the inhale, in fact I was just sitting here trying it and trying to focus on where exactly I start couching, it's not when it hits my throat at all, no problem there, it's when it hits the lungs.

In my mind I keep associating this with the nic level, so when I see someone say they use 36mg. it blows my mind.

You say you used VG in the beginning but now use PG, is there a reason, or did you just find a vendor with better flavors?

Can you site the differences between the two in your mind. Like is one smoother than the other?

If a word has an underline and you don't know what it is referring to, place your cursor over the underlined word and it'll give you a definition.

Most people when they first start suffer from the coughing. Try to give a week or 2 and you may stop.

That feature isn't working for me, I can see the dots under the letters, but they do not link, yet when the letters are all blue it does link, is this because I'm new? I also don't seem to have the ability to edit, is that also because I'm new?

Thanks for the link!!! I will get one of each and see if it makes a difference. Wouldn't that be interesting? Of course I would then be limited to vendors with that particular kind, but better than nothing.

The underlined thingys for definitions aren't links. Just hover your cursor over them for a moment & a little pop-up should show up with a definition or explanation of the abbreviation or whatever.

And, yes, the not being able to edit is a being new thing. Think it goes away after 10 or 15 posts. It's some sort of anti-spam measure I think.

I used VG juice in the beginning because I thought it might be less harsh. It seemed to be alot less harsh than the carts that came with my ecig kit, which was a 901. Those carts were PG based. I wanted a creamy flavor which I got with the cream soda juice.

After the 1st week, I learned how to not inhale so hard, which helped alot. I then bought PG juice because it was easier to find and I found a cheaper supplier in the US. I did not realize my 1st supplier was not in the US. I have not used VG juices in 2 months. My attys seem to clog less with PG. I stopped killing them and learned to always keep them wet.

In my mind at 1st the VG seemed less harsh, but now, after 3 months of vaping, PG is not harsh at all to me. However, I have never used a juice that was higher than a 24mg nic. I was nic free for awhile, now I am on 16mg. I think it is all very personal and the only way to know is to try VG and PG and see for yourself which is best. DIYFlavorshack has a 50/50 PG/VG mix I use if I want to mix my own flavors. I dont think they actually taste much different. I heard people can be allergic to PG. You just need to try both to see what your body adjusts to.

Yes, that's what I'm going to do, I just ordered a bottle of PG and a bottle of VG with no nic or flavoring and 2 bottles with 6mg. of nic and asked them if they could make 1 with PG and one with VG. I think doing this will not only tell me which one I prefer, but will also tell me if it's the flavoring or the nic level that's doing it.

I will report back my findings as soon as I get them.
