Hiya everyone.

First day with my brand new ecig :) arrived by post this morning. Ego setup and 3 juices to play with. Have read pages of dos and donts, of the fors and againsts and took the plung to go ahead and buy. Now im sitting here needing some advice please from any seasoned vapers.
The story so far, open box, take out batt, ensure fully charged, setup the clearo and add some juice, do a few burns to make sure no primer is on the whatevers and then draw slowly and off you go ( well thats about what i did so far ). That was approx 6 hours ago and im sitting here wondering, should i let that juice steep for a month, will the smell of PG VG or god knows whatever that smell is ever go ( even after washing my hands 3 times and gutting fish for dinner ) there is this smell of whati can only describe as something like oil/musk/synthetic on my hands. Ok i opened the bottle carefully, dribbled the liquid into thew clearo carefully and washed hands after etc etc But its not the smell on my hands i am posting about, its the fact that same smell was how it tasted when i vaped and yes i can still taste it 6 hours later YEUUUK. So maybe im thinking it was the flavour juice i bought, so off i go open another flavour and again this background smell jumps out at me ( the cherry flavour hardly noticeable at all ). So guys, do you have to get used to this synthetic oily taste/smell that seems to stay with you even after hours of not vaping ? I only took a few reall vapes and only good thing i can say was it made my cigs taste as vile as the ecig did. ( still is making everything taste of something YEUK )

Welcome to ECF. Punctuation is your friend. Please use it.

Now I will try to help you. Some juices need to steep. Some for only an hour or so, some for longer. Also if it's cold there this could also effect the juice. Coming through the post there is no temperature regulation. So let it warm up for a few hours and try it again. Also take the top off and the tip out. Let it steep to the open air.

The smell could be from a number of things. Give it time and things will get better.

There are a few possibilities here, here is a couple.

The clearos may be Low Resistance and the fresh fully charged battery may provide too much power
fresh off the charger.

Doing a dry burn or 5 "before" filling them with juice will burn off any primer on the coil.
When there is juice in the clearo you can't do a dry burn as the wick/coil is wet and any
primer in it may have contaminated your juice.

In the beginning it's hard to know what is a good or bad vape as you've never vaped before.
Most of us I think were not too impressed with our first few vapes.

Don't inhale for a little while. Make sure the juice is wicking and flowing and then
try inhaling "a little".

It's not uncommon to just not like some flavours or some vendors.

If it still tastes horrible to you, try emptying out the clearo, rinse it out,
and dry burn the coil in short bursts to clean it off. There are plenty of
vids on utube showing how to dryburn if you're not sure how to do it.

I know none of us like wasting juice(especially in the beginning) but if it's
not working for you as it sits, it may be worth a try.

If you have the ego twist or a battery that's VV start at the lowest possible
voltage and work it up slowly.

Just a couple suggestions here, don't give up though, it does get better,
we've all bin there and done that. Cheers!

i've had some juices linger for a little while, nothing like what you're describing but it sounds to me like you dry burned a clearomizer like a CE4? Is that right? If that's what you did and you did it for more than 1-2 secs when it was brand new then that is what the taste and smell is...you burned the wicks. btw don't dry burn clearos...ever...unless it's a vivi nova and the tank part is off and you just rinsed it w/ vodka.

Welcome to ECF, I hope you find many hours of reading and enjoyment ahead of you!

As far as the smell left from the liquid, I'm familiar with that.

I chalked it up to crappy liquids and shopped around a good bit. At the moment I'm vaping a juice from Vaper Venue, which does charge a bit more than some others, but so far no weird tastes or scents left on my hands.

I would suggest getting a couple of little sampler bottles from any site which fits your fancy and see if the mixer/manufacturer has a part to play in the odd chemical smells.

Thankyou for the replies.

I will of course let the juices steep for however long it takes.

But still wonder what the smell is ( the VG or CG Glycerine ) ? Being a total noob to this, do all newly bought juices have the overriding smell of musk/synthetic/oil ? And taste of it also if not steeped ?

I asked this because i have also purchased a setup for my mother who is in her 70s and would hate to have her first vape experience that tasted as vile as mine did.

:)

( edited to say, 2 different brands and smelling the bottles themselves have this background smell )

Not all juices have that smell. Some can be vaped straight away, others need steeping. When steeping, take the caps off and leave them in a dark place like a cupboard - with caps off for a few hours. That will allow alcohol to evaporate. Then leave them steeping with the caps on and give them a shake each day too. Some take a few days, some can take a few weeks.
Generally tobacco type flavors need steeping.

a brand new clearo like that wrapped in a package or whatever can just be filled and smoked. dryburning is for other kinds of devices.

I respectfully dis-agree with this. I've been dryburning my stardust type heads regularly for months now.
One of them has lasted me for more than 3 months with proper care and cleaning, including dryburning.YMMV.

My kit is :-
Joyetech eGo-C Upgrade Battery and V3 Vision Ego Rebuildable Clearomiser. I did not dry burn, but followed the instructions to use juice to get it going. So think I did that right.

The juices i purchased were Cherry, HS Delight, Virginia 18mg.

My mothers kit :-
Vision Crystal 400mah Mini Ego Battery and V3 Clearomiser ( still boxed not touched that yet )

Have just gone and checked the smell of the juices again ( glutton for punishment ) and they all smell the same. I will be buying testers from a few companies first thing Monday, anyone suggest a good UK supplier maybe ?

:)

I don't know the UK suppliers Zhan. This is a list put together by Chrissie from the UK forum, with discount codes:
E-cigarette/E-liquid Vendors List + discount codes | ALL ABOUT E-CIGARETTES UK

There is a UK forum here where they would know, if no-one pops into this thread:
UK Forum

You've reached 5 posts so you can post there. Just give the ECF servers 30 minutes to reset.
Buying some small samples is a good way to try out new juices.

Hi and welcome! You now have 5 posts and can post your question about suppliers in the UK sub-forum. I do not recommend dry burning a clearo - they are inexpensive little things and the wicks may not hold up to it. Clearos also need to be tipped/twirled around to keep the wicks wet. They are a bit notorious for dry hits if they have been sitting for awhile.

The smell (and taste) of juices can really vary from vendor to vendor/flavor to flavor and you didn't say (or I apologize if I missed it) if you have ever smelled any e-liquid before. I'm wondering if it's because you've never been exposed to it before.:2c:

My first experience was with a Prepacked ecig ( 10motives ) vile thing reminded me of the fake fags you had as a child blowing out chalk however in its defence, it pushed me to look for something better .

I have never smelt a eliquid before, so am really hoping the supplier juices are junk and this smell isnt a standard background taste/aroma you have to put up with as it really isnt pleasant.

They might not be junk. The first e-liquid I got just about made me gag, so I threw it a drawer never expecting to see it again. Well, surprise, surprise, 5 months later it was yummy! My juices vary from having almost no odor, to smelling good, to smelling odd with no correlation to what it tastes like.
