SO, Ive been reading on this site for a few weeks, and decided it was time to introduce myself and say Hey!
I quit cigs in June 2014. When seeing other people vaping, I figured it was a fad that would go away. Turns out, its not a fad. SO I decided to give it a go. I havent looked back. Ive just been using an ipv for these past months (tesla, and Innokin SVD). Its all fine and dandy but I wanted to go a little further. So, I have a couple Mods on the way. Im going to use an RTA Ive already built it up, but cant test it yet (no mods). I have read about the importance of a good battery, and I have a set now. So, im going to give the sub ohm vaping a go, and see where this takes me.
My background is electro/mechanical work, so this should be a smooth transition..
Anyway, Hi everyone!

Welcome aboard!

What's your RTA? Ohm build? I've fiddled with rebuildables since about last June. Got a couple kayfun clones that I'm finally getting my head and hands around to keep from getting the nasty dry hits. Got a couple of Kanger Subtank Nanos that I'm rebuilding the OCC heads (but I sure wish I had some better tools to get that top off so I don't ding them with pliers!) Was only December that I got an iPV Mini that I could really start pushing lower-ohmmed builds, but I'm finding my sweet spot around 1-1.4 ohms (usually about 1.7-ish for my Kanger PT2 coils).

It's good stuff. Glad you're here!

The rta i bought(not knowing the difficulty before i bought it) is the kraken clone. My buddy has one and coached me through it. He told me my best bet was to use the cable as wick and use a bit of mesh around the top of it between the coil and the cable.. He also said that. 5 ohm was a good start, but i should change my juice ratios to 80/20. For wicking. But i havent purchasex the new juice yet. Im currently using 50 50 at 16mg nic. He also said i should lower the nic down to 6mg for sub ohm. It seems pretty consistant to what ive read here from all of you experienced vapers. The mods i purchased are the bufflao mec, and also the hades. Which im still waiting for. The buffalo comes with a rda that is called the nucleus by ephro?. Anyway, from the sounds of things i may be better off starting with the dripper until i get accustomed to this new style of vaping. What do you guys think? Oh, and btw, it will be awhile until im ready to build and boxes.. But intriguing idea..

Oh also, he recomended the. 5 to start with the kraken. When my build was done it was reading at. 41 with dual coils. Do you guys think thats too low to start with? Should i increase the resistance on this? The batteries i purchased are authentic, i say this because the reviewers on amazon said so. There was a slew of real people posting that they are legit batteries. The ones i bought are... Samsung INR18650-25R 18650 2500mAh. These should be able to handle the low ohm down to. 2? I believe that is what i read somewhere on this forum. Correct me if im wrong.

Hi dogboystoy and welcome aboard!

Even with a mechanical (unregulated) mod, a .41 ohm coil will draw 10.24 amps. Your battery's CDR rating is 30 amps, so you should be pretty safe with that as long as there are no shorts. Have you checked your build with an ohm meter?

Hope it helps and Happy Vaping!

OH - BTW - just to suggest something else to try out (as if you didn't have enough fun stuff to learn) here's an interesting read on the science if vapor production. It's about building for VV/VW devices, but a lot of it applies for coil building in general:
My thoughts about sub-ohm and latest VV/VW devices...
