Been lurking here for a few months as I started to get into vaping. Decided to take the plunge and participate.

I am a very occasional cigar smoker (4-5 times a year) who loves the flavor of a good cigar but HATES everything else that comes with it -smoke smell, that awful taste in your mouth for he whole next day... I've never been a cigarette smoker because those have always tasted awful to me.

My (adult) kids turned me on to vaping a few months back and I really enjoyed the idea of the wide variety of flavors available. My son gave me an old ego twist and I just took off with it. Been buying crap like crazy, finding new flavors, etc.

I'm primarily a flavor seeker and I've since bought a ton of juices and an istick 50 which I use with an Atlantis 2 .5. I have to say I really like that set up. I have an ego One Mega as well which I use on the go. So tell me, is there any benefit to moving up from there? Is it worth checking out mechanicals? Should I try rebuilding? I am a bit of a gear head so there is some appeal but I'm wary of getting too deep!

Thanks for all your contributions when I was lurking and I look forward to contributing myself!

Hi puddin and welcome to the forum. Looks like you're on a nice journey with your vape. "Shinyitis" is uncureable and doesn't care who it effects, I've just learned to enjoy it. You would enjoy coil building and there is a new easy to use coil tool out the Kuro Koiler which makes coil wrapping even easier.

Enjoy.

Welcome Puddinman, I cant answer your questions on those newer products, when I started they werent around. All we had was cigalikes and clearos and vivinovas. They were so so, so rebuildables made a world of difference, and I have been there ever since. I hear you onthe lurkin part, it took me 2 years of lurking to join, and now I still mostly lurk.Great info here, enjoy your journey.

Welcome and congrats :) as far as rebuilding, that is up to you. Are you willing to practice building, study ohms law and battery safety? It's more than just wrapping kanthal around a screwdriver. I like rebuilding personally though, tanks are fine, but I even rebuild my subtank mini. Rebuilding opens you up to a whole new world of devices and such.

Welcome and enjoy your stay!!

For "gear heads" as you put it, building and tinkering is totally worth the effort. Don't worry about messing it up, just take precautions before attaching any build to your mods. Understand ohms law and how that affects everything you build.

Get a good ohm reader to start before you build. It will show you what your build is reading and warn you of shorts, which can ruin your day if you put it on your mod before checking.

Welcome and congrats on your journey.
As you stated, being a 'gearhead', RDA's will be right up your alley.
Do some reading on the wire. Different wire does different things. Some have higher resistance, some have lower resistance. Some take a few seconds to 'ramp up', some do not. Kanthal NiChrome, Ni2000, Ti...they all have different properties, but the fun part is finding what YOU like. Also, you may find you like: this wire in this atomizer but not this one. And so on.
Enjoy the experience!

Many thanks for the welcome!

As it happens, I'm in San Antonio today and decided to check out some local vape shops as my small town has only a couple of options. At one of them, they did juice tasting with a dripper. I was blown away by the increase in flavor (and vapor production, but that's not a huge deal for me)! So, of course I asked for a recommendation. The staff showed me a "Tugboat" and guided me through a build for which they used a Kuro Koiler as sir2fyablynutz mentioned above. It came out to. .6 ohms and we used it on my iStick 50 playing around the 20watt range...pretty nice!

My wife is not going to like my new laboratory...

No @@@@@@@@, my wife is almost done with my vape hobby. I just made my fathers day order from fastek today, didnt tell her yet. Forgot to mention I am also a fellow gearhead, auto mechanic, and electronics. This has all helped inthe adventure.I never got into drippers, because I dont like the hassle,I am a fill the tank and forget it guy.But I rebuild drippers for my daughter and friends and do like the flavor from them. Just keep reading and you will figure out what works for you. Good luck and enjoy the journey, vape on Puddinman.
