Hello and help

Hello. I have been lurking behind the shadows trying to figure out what I needed. I am thinking that a starter kit will be the best idea as I want to stop wasting money making myself stink. Is there any main reason I shouldn't just go all out on the equipment to start out? Money isn't a big issue and I want to try it out as I think I'll like the pros more than the cons.

I made my first purchase based on the most common quoted reason of which you ask: I thought it would be impossible to switch unless the PV resembled a cigarette as much as possible. I don't really know if that's true or not, but just in case it is...

In any event, I ended up with a small cig lookalike which worked, but not too well... Having to recharge very often, having little flexibility of use, etc. And, on top of that, a cig lookalike is still too big and too heavy to really "trick the brain" into thinking you're holding a cigarette!

BUT! With the cig lookalike I did switch instantly, I had NO cigarette after my first vape on my first kit. So they did something right.

However, very-very soon thereafter, I realized that I reached their limit of usability - the annoyance of frequent switching for recharging, the impossibility of increasing power or playing around with shiny new attachments, well... it just stopped working in a matter of a week! I discovered that one feature of real cigarettes that the PV needs to emulate the closest is certainly not the form factor, but the reliability. And that perfect consistency of the fact that every single time you want to smoke, you light it and you get the same sensation without any fiddle factor. That is what one needs.

No cigarette lookalike can replicate the reliability, and (I may get stoned for this) no unregulated PV can replicate the consistency. Period.

Therefore, I'd look for a durable, well built voltage regulated mod that takes high capacity batteries that you can swap out (or, at the very least, battery-passthrough that can be vaped while charging). I would make sure I include the most reliable and fiddle free attachments - which probably are cartomizers, and get a couple of atomizers fo juice testing purposes. Later you can branch out and test all the fancy clearo-fluxo-stardust-tornado-mizers out there.

Welcome to ECF! You will probably hear many ideas as to where you should start out with vaping, and any of them could be right. It is really dependent on what YOU are looking for. If you want to try a few different PVs to get a feel for what you like, there are many relatively cost effective ways of doing so; whether it is an analog look alike, fixed voltage or variable voltage..before you you invest. I started not that long ago and was dumbfounded by the many ways to go, but found what I enjoy (for now, lol) by trying these routes. The cost of the start up was not an issue for me either, but I decided to go "through the motions" and test out devices and such, and will honestly probably do so for quite a while. You may find that you prefer Cartomizers over atomizers or vice versa, the versatility of a variable voltage, the "plug and play" of a fixed voltage or a tube Vs. a box mod..the list goes on. You should get a feel for what you is going to keep you vaping and go from there. Remember that there are many members here that have been at this for far longer than I that would be willing to give you more (and probably better) advice than myself!

Hi Godthisblows, Welcome to the ECF. If you have the nerve then I say jump in with both feet. Order up which ever device you think will serve you well, pick out some interesting liquids at a strength you think you will need to be satisfied, then get one strength below that and one strength above that. While you are at it get some liquids you dont think you will like. Get yourself a wide array of cartos and attys and for your device. Once you have it all in hand give it a shot. Theres so many options out there you may just never have to have another analog just from trying to keep up with all the everchanging technologies alone. If you decide to pull the trigger let us know. We will all be rooting for you.Good Luck. Happy Vaping.

Thank you everyone for your advice. The main reason for wanting to vase is that I like the nicotine and the actual act of smoking but hate the smell that is left. I think what I'm looking for is a cigarette replacement but understand the issues that come along with them. It's actually the girlfriend and myself that are looking to switch as we have started going to the gym and I can tell the difference in my body since we started going but I would love to be smoke free. We tried the gum/patches a year ago and they didn't satisfy us.

Hi Again. I agree with your summary. Thats why I have yet to stop vaping even thogh my highest nic liquid hasnt been over 4mg now for months . I uaually vape 2 or even0 at the end of my day so it doesnt keep me awake and restless. I still Love the act of belting a thick cloud of vapor. I still love the feeling of the inhale. I still love the flavors that are available to me. I hate the way i smelled. I hated the way I felt. That why vaping suits me so very well. Good Luck in your journey.

The main thing is treat your e-cig like you a do real cig if you smoke 1 every hour only use your e-cig every hour take your 10 to 15 draws and put it down. E-cigs deliver nic slower than cigarettes so give it time you will feel satisfaction in a few minutes after using your ecig. And if I was you I would start with a high quality cig style KR808D-1 battery and prefilled carts just do you reseach online I also found if say you smoked ultra lights try a medium nic strength around 11 or 12 mg.

Thank you for your response. I was wondering how to know when to stop with the ecig. I know what I feel like after an analog or two but being that a cartomizer is the same as a pack it's hard for me to think of when to stop. Are you saying its going to take more time to get the nicotine buzz?

I would say you need to decide on 501 route or the 808 route.

Just order a battery, a usb charger and some cartomizers, and of course some juice. See how you get on.

Then you can decide if you want to try another device or stick to it and purchase more items like atomizers and different types of carts.

You may want to start with auto batteries as these simulate more an analogue feel when you vape.

I personally started on 901's and have now got 808 VGO battery and carts.

I know about the different battery sizes but am not sure which to get. I know that they make adapters for some of the different sized batteries. Are they any good or should I just buy new batteries?

First we have to know the brand of analogs you are smoking and the quantity per day. From that point you can decide what size of batts/ PV and level of nicotine you would need. About knowing when to stop- your body/ nervous system will tell you- getting headaches, nausea, calmness, etc. Also your lifestyle- work situation, at home a lot, etc. Most decide on the 510 connector because they seem to be the most popular and offer the widest choice among vendors. If you are really stuck on a certain 808 PV then you can buy a 808 to 510 adapter for a few dollars BUT this adapter will make your PV slightly longer. Some will buy an adapter if they're using auto batts and there is no juice well to protect the battery. My PV has a connector that accepts both 510 and 808 although I really have no use for the 808.
Good Luck.

I have to disagree. Trying to vape like that was what stopped me from switching from cigarettes properly.

It was when I stopped treating vaping like smoking that I switched.

Instead of vaping once an hours for 15 - 20 puffs, I vape every 5 or 10 minutes for 2 or 3 puffs.

I think everyone does it differently and when you first start out you tend to vape a bit more than you should (I know I did my first month!), but unless you really overdo it you will be ok. You will also know if you are overdoing it as you will start to feel nauseous and get a headache.

Vape whichever way works for you I say and just have fun!
