Hi.

I am in the market for mechanical mods since my regulated X.Gun and VamoV5 are obviously not sub-ohm capable.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not about cloud-surfing, but I've found quite a bit of enjoyment with my new iGo-W. Flavor seems to be quite a bit better, even with a 1.5Ohm coil build (I'm still learning about wrap counts, etc. in order to use the iGo as a dual coil) than my Nautilus' (I have two Nautilus').

I do like my Nautilus for traveling to work, etc. The RBA's make me a bit more nervous as far as leak potential, so I'd plan to use them at home only. Not only that, but the nautilus has WAY less vapor than the iGo, all other things equal. A bit easier to be discrete at the office (officially, electronic smoking devices are "banned" in my office buildings).

I was going to peruse the classifieds, but don't have 20 posts yet. I thought the PayPal verification thing was AWESOME, but then saw that I STILL require 20 posts. Heh. Anyway, here I am. Any pointers on mechanical mods are appreciated. People tell me that the brass/copper mech mods are the way to go, so that's where I'm looking. Also, I'm told the 2000mAh batteries I have (IFR's of course) are worse than the 1600mAh batteries, and so I did some research and sure enough, the 1600 seems to outperform the 2000 with regards to the specific application of vaping (the voltage range used).

So... HI.

:banana:Obligatory dancing banana. Because.

Welcome to ECF !! :toast:

Appears your thread fell off the "front page", ECF moves fast, it happens sometimes....:)

For a first mech I would recommend the Kamery K-100 or K-101. They are solid performers, built solid (you could use on as a sap) and will fit multiple battery sizes. Best of all they are inexpensive, my first one I on sale for $23, and my second in a B&M for $25.

Battery wise you want to be sure to use IMR or Hybrid batteries, from a reputable vendor where you're sure to get genuine Sony or AW or Panasonic batteries. This is the one area of vaping where you never want to go for the cheapest.

Hello and Welcome to ECF!!

I don't have much mech advice to share though, the only one I've ever used is a Reo. May not be what you're looking for though...Box mod, bottom feeder....dripping with the convenience of a tank.
I will share some helpful links to some more battery information though.

On a mech voltage and mah are your least concern. You want good quality IMR's for mechs because of the discharge capacity. Before you get to involved with sub-ohming with a mech, .7 coil and anything other then IMR with at least a 20amp max discharge, do yourself and whichever hand you vap with a favor and get some quality batteries. Sony VTC4 Sony VTC5 for example. I use nothing but VTC5's and recent got some efest 2500mah IMR's (purples). If you have a smart phone, look up the ohm law app and you will soon discover why batteries with a low max discharge capacity are not recommended.

Also, when ordering your mech, get a ohm meter. I wouldn't recommend building and testing a new coil right on a mech without first knowing it's ohm rating (just in case of a short).

Thanks for the responses everyone.

Not really into the box-mod styles, more of a traditional mod guy :)

My background is in electronics circuits ;) I use a multimeter when building coils on my iGo-W. I did two coils and ended up with .8Ohm total resistance, but my regulated mods don't allow any less than 1.2Ohm circuits =\ I'm more concerned with getting an atty with brass/copper contacts, since the resistance is likely to drop even further. Hence the need for a standard mech mod.

I keep hearing a lot obout the Nemesis Clones, and how everyone seems to go for them. Are they that good? Worthwhile as a first mechanical mod? Do they have copper/brass contacts, or are they silver plated?

I've checked out a Nemesis Clone in a couple different B&M shops, they look great, shiny....but not very rugged, a bit delicate. I used my K-100 with coils down to 0.5Ω and the contacts were fine, the vape at that resistance wasn't my preference...YMMV. At about 0.9Ω and up with my Igo-W the K-100 performs very well, low voltage drop, smooth switch action. The design of the contacts, where they are large and flat, large contact ares would seem to make as big a difference as the metal used.

I ended up stumbling upon a pretty kick-... looking mod by V-Creations. They're having a flash sale on Congrevape:

I'd post the URL, but I can't.

Placed my order, now the waiting for mid-June begins. Now I may have to buy an Atty and another mech mod to hold me over LOL!
