Hello ECF, I just signed up to say thanks. For the last 6 days I have learned so much from this forum. I've been thinking a lot the last few months about e-cigs as an alternative to help me and my girlfriend quit smoking, or least find a safer route to get the nic for our children's benefit.

Our 5 year old daughter was just given the official word of being in remission from ALL Leukemia. The girl was a trooper about it all and has pulled through, and its not fair to her to be exposed to our nasty habits on a second chance at life. Her 3 year old brother was also her cell donor. They both deserve better futures, far far away from cigarettes. After all my reading I understand the risks and the unknown aspects of e-gigs, but there's just no way be it can worse than "Analogs" (probably the nicest thing I've heard them called), and definatly seems safer for the people around you.

Cost effectiveness is a major issue right now, and Ive come to find that to stay within what we spend on tobacco I will have to mix my own juices and rebuild my own wicks. Both are fine with me. I'm a big DIYer with anything and have a good history with electronics and machinery in general. Also thanks to 2 years of my daughter having so many medical needs, I've now also got a good bit of knowledge on dosing and medicines.

At first it all did seem a bit overwhelming, but after reading for a day or two it all fell into place. Picking a vendor seemed the hardest, lots of who had what, and how much, trying to find a good deal. Lots of e-cig websites seem really overly flashy, poorly laid out, and just downright shady for some of them. Thought about fasttech, hard to beat those prices for anything, but I dont want to wait forever to start this up. Usually the most patient guy, but not this time, I want it now!

I decided on Mt Baker Vapors, nicely laid out website, good prices, and free 15 ml, awesome! I ordered a Mini-Protank 2, 900mah passthrough, and 30ml of apple for about $41 to get me started. Shipped today, cant wait till it gets here, all this has got me excited! I still need to gather enough vaping supplies for both of us, but I wanted to grab something descent to start out, so more to not turn her off of it with some cheapo crap thats gonna run out of battery, or flood and leak all the time

Well this went way longer than I intended, but a big toast to the forum in its whole and thanks again! :toast:

Welcome to ECF. So glad to hear your daughter is going to be all right. Great decision to stop smoking. This is a great forum and there are lots of people here to help you get started. Do not be shy to ask any question you have. Someone here is bound to have an answer for you. Sometimes many! Have you checked out the MVP2 at 101vape? It is $40 and a workhorse with long battery life. You can't do much better or cheaper for a great device.

Gothvader, welcome to ECF and congrats on your choices. I'm glad your daughter has come through ok. It breaks my heart when children have to go through such traumatic experiences. It must have been heart wrenching for you guys too. As a father, I can't even imagine what you must have gone through. Wish you well on your vaping journey and I pray that you and your family remain healthy and happy.

I received my things today and must say I'm enjoying it, havent had a cig since the mail came and feeling just fine with that. Saturday I was given a cig-a-like by a family member. I never wanted one, doesnt even appeal to me, but it was kinda nice to compare to the pro-tank, night and day, the cig-a-like just plain sucks, and did nothing for my cravings....

Hi gothvader,

Welcome to ECF! I am glad to hear that your daughter got a clean bill of health for the Leukemia! That is awesome news in itself and def reason to celebrate! Add to that you and the SO deciding to quit smoking to keep from exposing the kids to further risks ... all in all a good day to go out and enjoy a night on the town!

Looks like you picked some nice gear to get started with, from a respectable company too. MTB is pretty good in my experiences, and a lot of others as well. I will suggest you go get another battery and tank quickly ... sharing one setup is going to prove to be a real PITA!

Good luck to you both!
