I purchased an Igo-L yesterday and since I ran out of silica wick trying to follow tutorials I ended up trying the "dragon coil" method with cotton balls.

I'm using the Igo-L on an iTaste SVD.

My issues/questions are:

- I can't seem to gather enough smoke for a mouth to lung hit. (which is what I prefer)
- When I do lung hit, half the time I end up coughing it up b/c of how harsh it is. (taste is great but I guess it may be the heat?)
I did read on the forums that the airhole has to be positioned in alignment with the coil and have done so.

-Would Drilling another hole help me attaining the mouth to lung type of hits i prefer?

- For the 1.6 Ohm Coil I made should I be vaping at 3.6? Or more?

Additional information that may be useful for helping me

- I made a 1.6 ohm Coil before wicking it. No pics of the coil but if it matters I had it wrapped in a way where there's no space between the coils and it was done 14 times over a screw driver about the same head width as a toothpick.
- using 6mg dopey drops coffee
- Prior to wrapping the coil also appeared to evenly light orange throughout (I think this is good?)
-When I vape at 3.6 Ohm it just seems so harsh and produces less smoke.

Here's a video i made so that it might help in troubleshooting. (at 6 Volts. Is this too much for the current coil setup ? )

Since I'm a noob, I also want to ask if this is supposed to happen?

Pic of the Igo-L. I think this hole is larger than stock (but i bought it this way. maybe store already drilled it?)

Hi there Binigo,

Firstly welcome to ECF,

There looks to be too much cotton on that dragon coil, especially if its a single dragon coil. With cotton less is more in my opinion. All the cotton on the opposite side of the deck isnt going to the coil. Its just sitting there. Id say half the cotton and just put it on the same side of the coil. (Effectively a quarter of the total amount of cotton you have)

The air flow on a dragon coil need to line up with the opening if the coil. The coil itself could stand to be closer to your airhole/edge if the deck without touching the top cap or this will cause shorts. But additionally it will take away some of that harsh taste your getting.

Youll be coughing because of the surface area of your coil is deilvering the nic so well.

IMO, go for a single microcoil with a whisp of cotton through the centre for a "mouth to lung hit"

Hope some of that helps :)

like asht says - way way way to much cotton

your video is locked as private so it is no help in troubleshooting

do you mean 3.6 volts at 1.6 ohms? if so this is about 8.1 watts which is in the normal range of 90% of all vapors

I think you are getting the burnt taste because of no air flow due to extreme excessive cotton

oh, and welcome to the ecf

do not drill out the holes it will make it even more difficult to do a mouth to lung inhale. the smaller the hole the better it is for mouth to lung. the more open the draw is better suited to direct lung hits. if its too open for you, you will need to make the hole smaller. you can stick a toothpick in the hole and break it off if there are 2 holes in the cap. otherwise i dunno

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. Sirry I didn't realize the video wasn't published on youtube. Should be good to go now.

I'm trying now with less cotton.

Edit:

I did same wrap with less cotton and the open side is now closer to the air hole / wall.

When I take a lung hit at now 3.6 V on 1.6 ohms it's less harsh, flavor is still great, but I'm still getting the tendency to want to cough. (Soundin like a ..... i know lol)

I might be doin somethin wrong, maybe i should just wait til the silica wicks get shipped to my house and try a simpler build?

^this - much less cotton, through a microcoil, adjusted to maximize air hole alignment. Twist the coil for 1.4 ohms and you're in vape nirvana, usable safely on just about any device, straight mech or regulated.

Welcome to ECF, BTW. Vape strong and prosper.

Maybe I'm just worried b/c I'm not used to what these look like.
But is it supposed to look this jacked up after only like 5-10 drags?
I've been makin sure to keep the cotton wet.

Is the center end of your coil open or covered by cotton? The video I just watched was very clear on this, the coil opening on the out side was covered with cotton while the inside opening was open...

Haha yea in the video the centre was opened. Then after I read the suggestion on here I redid the cotton wick and had the out side opened and center closed as in the last pick where it looks pretty burned.
