Hello all. Thanks for this forum and all of your input. I've learned a lot from this site already and continue to read as much as I can.

I've taken a slightly different path with my vape gear when compared to most people so I wanted to throw my story out there, what I'm looking to do and see what suggestions ECF has.

Quick history of my vape setups. Started about a year ago.
Started with Blu, not a vape setup IMO and it was not satisfying at all. Kept smocking analogs.
Got a Steam E-go twist starter pack. Much better.
Broke the plastic tanks and replaced with an KangerTech Evod glass. Nice tank but the hits weren't really big enough for me.
Broke the Evod tank, replaced with a KT AeroTank Mini. Had been running everything around 3.5V up until I read the Aerotank manual and it said 3.0V-5.0V. Called my local shop and he said he would try 4 or 4.2 if the 3.5 wasn't cutting it. NOW WE'RE TALKING! Nice hits, still a nice cool vape too.
E-Go batteries started dying quick. Had just bought a 18650 flashlight.
Got a Sentinel Mech mod, a 510 adapter and screwed the Aerotank Mini onto it. Even better. Great battery life and the lack of VV or VW didn't bother me after a few days with it. Just looks goofy with the big battery and little tank.
That's what I've been running for about a month. Day 15 with no analogs!

Been a vaping a little more since I quit cigs. Want 3 things out of the next tank. Not looking to drip (yet). I vape while driving a lot and just not ready to drip. I'm not a cloud chaser but do like what are big hits in my book. (less than halfway to sub-ohm clouds maybe).
1 - More fluid capacity (less refills and looks more appropriate on the 18650 mech mod)
2 - Lower resistance than the 1.5 and 1.8 ohm dual coils I've been using the in the AeroTank Mini. I'm thinking 1 ohm would be great. I don't want to be risky with the Panny batteries I use and not really looking to get into high discharge cells (yet). I've been reclaiming cells so a safe resistance is VERY attractive.
3 - I love the variable airflow of the AeroTank. Would like to keep that if possible.

The 2 things I'm thinking about so far are
1 - A tank atomizer with a rebuildable coil. Attractive because the coils last longer and are cheaper. Is this what people mean when they say "RTA"? Rebuildable Tank Atomizer? Are there any that have variable airflow?
2 - a bigger Aerotank and ordering some 0.8 ohm coils online as my local shop just carries the 1.5 and 1.8. Is 0.8 ohm on an unregulated mech mod safe with non high drain batteries? The internet says it's ok with all of the name brand cells I see. I wish KT made 1.0 ohm coils. 0.8 to 1.5 is a big jump considering they also have 0.6 and 1.8.

Sorry for the slightly rambly post but I really appreciate any suggestions you have. :)

Hello and welcome to the forum JohnDoe. Glad to have you here!:)

One safety related question for you. Flashlight batteries (in general) are inappropriate for mod use. Only IMR (Li-MN) Safe-Chemistry "HIgh-Drain" batteries are used in Mods for safety reasons.

What batteries are you using (brand, mah,Amp draw)?

Warpigs, thanks for the suggestion. A couple questions about that tank and tanks in general. That one doesn't seem to have adjustable airflow, is that correct? Also, does it have a rebuildable coil? It looks cool, I like the glass+pyrex construction. It also say a "nice warm vape". IMO my aerotank provides a nice cool vape and I like that. What is it about tanks that makes a vape warm or cool?

Susan, thanks a lot for the warm welcome. I'm glad I joined. Thank you for asking about the battery safety issue as well since that's a big concern for me. Right now I have a few pairs of batteries. The pair I bought for my flashlight are Soshine 3400 mAh batteries. They are pannys with an added PCB circuit. Great for lights but they just barely fit into my mod. I bought a couple of bare panny NCR18650PF's for the mod (10A?) and have since reclaimed a pair of Samsung ICR18650-22F's (inanitydefined says 4.4A) and a pair of what google says are Panny CGR18650CE (can't find an amp draw rating) that also say MH12210. Right now I'm not terribly worried as I'm vaping at 1.8 ohm but I definitely want to stay safe when I drop the resistance.

I'm looking at 5.25A of draw at 0.8 ohms. In my newb brain I would be ok to use the NCR18650PF but not the Sammy ICR's.

Is all of this a bad idea and I should go get some high drains from the vape shop? I don't mind having 8 batteries for the flashlight even though I only use one a week. I vape a lot more than I use a flashlight though...

Also, I know it's small potatoes compared to sub-ohm draws but my flashlight (Zerbalight H600Fw) draws 2.8A. It puts out 970 lumen on high.

XXY, thanks for the suggestions. The DRV is a no-go as I vape out of the car as well. I can't afford (and don't want) a setup for every occasion. The nautilus looks great but only has 1.6 and 1.8 ohm coils. I'm looking for ~1.0. I've had 1.5 and want more vapor. A tank witha rebuild able coil seems like an attractive option at the moment as long as there's one with adjustable airflow.

Baditude, approx 15 seconds on this forum taught me to pay attention to your posts and I'm more than a little proud you've posted on my newb thread. :) Thanks.

The Panny NCR18650PF's are all good at 5.25A and I have 2 of those. I've never worn out one before I got back home to the charger, even on a 18 hour work day. So I'll retire all of the reclaimed cells to the flashlight and use those to vape with for the time being.

I appreciate you guys and gals taking time to help me with the clusterF that is li-ion cells.

Back to a tank that has adj airflow, the possibility of 1.0 ohm coils and a larger capacity. I was just swapping my KT dual coil and the package has a checkbox for 1.0 but I don't see it for sale on the web. What gives? I'd like the longer life of a rebuildable coil but the prefab has it's perks as well. Does Kanger actually make a dual coil 1.0 ohm for the aerotank series?

Also, is there a good rebuildable tank (RTA?) with adj airflow that you guys would recommend?

Alrighty then.

By far the best of the best multi-coiled tank systems on the market today, would be the Gus Estia 510, simply nothing on the planet vape, that can match the vape potential of the Estia, nothing, in any category, nothing:D

By far the best first rba, imho, is the flash-e-vapor. It's a tank system on a dripper, easy to build and vapes outstandingly at any vape level. Easy to fill, can work on build when tank is full, drip or tank, simple, elegant, just vapes great.

There are other fine tanked system rba's out there, but one would be hard pressed to match, let alone beat, the vape potential of those two. Estia, while being easy for me to build, would not recommend as a first rba. Multi coiled systems are a bit trickier to build and balance, and one should be fairly competent in their building skills before advancing beyond a single coil rba. Just saying. :D

Vape long and Prosper.!!!

time for my 2nd cup of jo. :D

Dice, those are some nice units! They are also way out of my price range. I agree the Estia looks too complicated for my first RBA.

Let's narrow the criteria some.
Single coil RBA (what's an RTA?).
Adj airflow
Decent fluid capacity without being super long (3-4 ml or so)
Visible fluid reservoir (not a fan of the all metal designs)
Can a decent piece be had for less than $40?

Thanks for all of the suggestions! This is great.

You guys are killing it! Thanks for the suggestions on the Kayfun. I called my local vape shop today and they have the EHpro Kayfun lite plus and 3.1 in stock. Plus they have a guy that just does builds all day long that will build it for me and show me how to do it. :)

I like supporting these guys and gals because they are friendly, helpful and, most importantly, 1.5 mi from the house. Now I can be old fashioned, walk into a real life store, see and touch two RBA's, decide which one I like better and buy that shiz. Woot.

Side bar, I've been using the dual coil 1.5 and 1.8 ohm in my aerotank. I want slightly bigger hits. You think a single coil RBA @ 1 ohm will hit as hard, harder or less harderer? Wondering how the dual coil prefabs compare to a single coil RBA, cloudwise.

Also, they will do any mix of PG/VG in increments of 10. I started with 70/30, then 60/40, then 50/50 (going for more vapor and less throat hit) then back to 60/40 for faster wicking. Where would be a good place to start with the RBA? The build guy uses 20/80 in his dripper but this isn't a dripper. Was going to go back to 70/30 in the atty because I tend to chain vape big lung hits and not give the wick much time to soak between hits.

Thanks a million times over for all of the great advice everyone! :toast:

You don't need to sub ohm to get lots of vapour. I sub ohmed by accident, cost me two eGo batteries! :?: Anyway you can make over ohm coils, like 3-4 ohm coils and have huge wattage. Apparently it's much safer, and you'd need a dedicated MOD to do it.

As for tanks, either a Kayfun or clone:

Kayfun v3.1es Rebuildable Tank Atomizer Clone | Long White Cloud Vaping Supplies

Or an AGA-T7 will be adequate,

AGA-T7 Rebuildable Atomiser Tank

These are New Zealand websites and just for examples.

The last thing you'd want to be doing is dripping while driving.

I went to my local vape shop today and picked up a EHpro Kayfun 3.1 in stainless. The guy built it for me, showed me what he was doing the whole time and built it to 1.0 ohm (hooray for local shops). The first coil turned out to be 0.9 and he trashed it before I could say "it's ok, that's fine". I got some 50/50 juice while I was there and he showed me how to soak the wick and place it properly. It's got a lot less airflow than I'm used to from the opened up aerotank. The Kayfun has much better flavor and a lot smoother vape though. I also noticed that even though the clouds are smaller, the nicotine and throat hit are higher. Was shaking a little when I got home and it's only a 5 min drive :).

After a few min with the new setup I was still wanting more airflow. I compared the drip tip from the KF 3.1 and my old aerotank. Lo and behold they are the same diameter. I popped the aerotank drip tip in the Kayfun (MUCH bigger hole in the Aero tip) and liked it much better. Took out the airflow adjustment screw and now it's really really nice. I got the same flavor juice that I've been vaping for a few months now (grapealade - grape apple lemonade) and it tastes a lot better through the Kayfun. I didn't like a lot of flavor before, but now I'm savoring the same juice that I used to think was a little strong (even though the flavor is stronger now).

I am super happy with my new setup (Kayfun 3.1 on a Sentinel clone Mech Mod with Panasonic NCR18650s for those who didn't read the whole thread).

Thanks a lot for all of the helpful suggestions! It took me a minute to get used to the fact that I'm blowing smaller clouds but vaping really is a lot more pleasurable now.

Also, this mug is HEAVY. It feels top heavy after having the e-go sized tank on top of a mech mod but the heft is nice. It could definitely double as a self defense weapon if the need ever arose. :vapor::nun:
