The basics: I'm a 57 yr woman, smoked since I was 14 and had never been able to make it more than 3 days w/out smoking in all those 40-odd years. Definitely on the 'Least Likely to Quit Smoking' list. Tried all the usual methods (patches, gum, cold-turkey) and once paid $400 for a hospital-run cessation program (failed). Tried the first e-cigs that came out years ago - I don't recall the name, but I do recall it was not cheap, and it was horrible.
In Dec '13, my husband and I got the flu - he quit smoking while he was sick. I have never been 'too sick' to smoke. It sent me into a state of panic, though; two worlds were about to collide, the smoker and the ex-smoker worlds. It was April 26, 2014 when my Halo Triton starter set arrived, and that was the same day I smoked my last cigarette.
Now, nearing the one year mark, I can't imagine ever smoking again. I don't even think about it, and with vaping I don't have to! I've introduced maybe 20 other smokers to vaping, maybe half of those are now ex-smokers too.
The health benefits I've experienced in such a relatively short time are just amazing. My cholesterol dropped from 430 total, to 260 (no statins). My dentist took me off the perio protocols because I no longer have symptoms of perio. My cardiologist told me I no longer need him - and the chest pains I used to get (and take nitro for) have not occurred since the day I stopped smoking. Plus all the usual/expected improvements to my stamina, voice, lung capacity, ability to taste, etc.
All of the above improvements to my life, I owe to the people on this forum - and I thank you all, with all of my heart. It was here that I learned about the world of vaping, the potential it had as a cessation method, and how I selected my chosen devices. Thank you for paving the way, and sharing it all.
