Good day all,

Just an introductory post with a few questions thrown in. Been a 40+ a day smoker for over 30 years and 3 weeks ago I purchased my first EC, a Greensmoke starter pack. I seem to have adapted very well and have not had a normal cig since starting. I have observed the following and wonder if this is normal for vaping:

Bad breath - seem to have developed a stinky breath that I did not have when smoking normal cigs. Oral hygiene routine has not changed.

Build up of nicotine on my teeth. It's so bad that I can feel ridges between the teeth which disappear after brushing.

Could these sides be as a result of the brand of EC I'm using or is it normal?

look forward to your replies. Awesome forum.

Welcome to the forum, Vaalboy.

I've not heard nor read of the above associated with e-cigarettes. Concerning the bad breath you've noticed, it could be that by quitting cigarettes your sense of smell has improved. You may well have had the bad breath before but didn't notice it because how smoking affects the sense of smell.

I don't see how nicotine in water vapor would be worse than nicotine in cigarette smoke to stain teeth.

ohai and welcome.

i did have a lot of "dry mouth" early on from vaping. but increasing my fluid intake (whooo, look at me with fancy lingo for drink moar water!) solved that. when i had dry mouth, i could feel my breath smelt....smelld...smelled....had a bad odor. no where near as bad as from smoking tho.

the residue thing is weird....if anything, my teeth are magically cleaner now.

Hi Vaalboy and welcome to ECF. I did not experience any of your symptoms after quitting smoking.

I suggest you have a visit with your dentist and ask him/her about it. There might be some medical issues unrelated with vaping that are at play here and you won't know about them unless you check it out.

Best of luck with it all and let us know what you find out :thumb:

A few thoughts:

As mentioned above, vaping dehydrates very quickly. Drink lots of fluids. This is a possible factor in your experience.

It is also my understanding that smoking can sometimes mask or hide existing dental problems which are subsequently revealed when a person quits smoking (by any means). This is also a possible factor, and well worth talking to a dentist about.

Another possible factor is that your body may be ridding itself of smoking toxins. A lot of people who quit smoking (by any means) do cough for a while, for example. That's just a theory I'm throwing out there.

I suppose bed breath may be from less water also quitting cigarettes syndroms and yes may be dental problems.
I noticed if I dont wash my ss driptip a day there is some residue around the mouth part most probably comes from flavour. Cant think anything else. Since the flavor is for food and safe dont think it may come to something
