Hello, I am new to vaping (just started about 10 mins ago) and new to these forums looking for tips and advice from other users. I have been about a pack per day smoker for around 23 years. I just started to do my own research on reviews and videos and decided to try out the Triton made by Halo.

Now, I am totally new here so I didn't know what I was doing really, but I added the liquid into the tank. Then I turned it on (just with the battery out of the box and not charging it yet). Then took my first inhale off of my new vaporizer. The flavor I got at first was amazing, but then an aftertaste sort of metallicy or like the taste in your mouth you get from putting your tongue across the two nodes on a 9-volt battery. (I'm not the only one who has done this.....am I?)

So, I guess my question is: Is something wrong with my new product? Do they always have this taste? Does the taste come from the juice? It could also be user error as well, but we all know that's not the case here. :p

Anyways, any tips would be awesome for someone who has time for a newbie. I have the Triton from Halo and currently using the Tribeca juice.

Thanks!!!

Welcome Boltz!

Not familiar with the Triton, but did you let your topper sit for a few minutes before you hit it? You need to let the wicks soak a bit so that you're not "dry-hitting" the coils.

I've heard raves about Tribeca. I'm not much of a tobacco-flavored juice fan, but I know a number of people who swear by it!

I don't have quick links available (I suppose I should!) but there's a user named Baditude out here. He has some amazing blogs for new vaper folk. Talks all about terminology, battery safety, etc. If you find a post of his (which you easily should), click on the Blog link under his name to get routed to his wealth of info.

Good luck and enjoy the :vapor:

The link to Bad's blog posts... definitely worth a read... I've been vaping for around 5 years and still find useful information in his blog posts!

Dinger's right though, you need to let the wicks sit for a few on your first fill... what you are experiencing sounds kinda like a dry hit, and no, they don't always taste like that! If they did, I don't think any of us would be vaping!! LOL
Welcome to the boards, we'll get ya up to pro level in no time!

Thanks for the reply! (Apparently I can't even use the forums right, but this is directed towards Dinger)

Yeah, I let it set for a little bit and also kind of turned it around here and there to let the juice get all over the wicks. The flavor of the juice (inhale) is amazing! But that aftertaste is a little bothersome. Kind of like being on a 3 second emotional roller coaster :)

I will let it set longer and go look for this person with a bad attitude you recommend. Again, thank you for the reply!

No problem, Boltz!
Hmmm... so maybe you aren't getting dry hits, it's the aftertaste that you don't like?
Do you have any other juice to try? An easy recommendation would be to get a couple more of the clearomizers and some different juices (use a different juice in each one and rotate as you desire).
If you find that they all have the same aftertaste, then you may want to try different PG/VG ratios... just my :2c:

I agree with the above. At first it sounded like maybe a dry hit from firing before the coils were wet, but if you let it soak then it could just be the juice. I've tried some juices in the past that were pretty bad. A lot of time the "bad" is in the aftertaste... I can't say I've ever got that "9 volt" taste before, LOL, but certainly metalics and other strange things that just don't seem normal. Do you have any local vape shops near? Usually they have "tasting bars" where you can sample a wide variety of different juices... I've actually taken a couple of "die hard" tobacco flavor juice guys to our local one and basically forced them to try a variety despite their assurances that they want something that "tastes like a ...... cigarette"... One walked away with a bottle of Afternoon Delight and another with "Gummy bears" LOL... Don't let the fruity/candy/whatever flavors fool you... you just might find them more to your liking... I am/was a cigar smoker, so I LOVE the taste of a good tobacco... but yet when it comes to e-juice I haven't found one yet that I actually like... Tolerate? Sure... Like? No... Now it's time for me to go enjoy some of my Green & Gold Pear Lychee... :D

Exactly! I forced myself to vape tobacco flavors for years, cause I couldn't see myself "smoking" a marshmallow or strawberry or whatever... I stuck with tobacco flavors (Mostly RY4s that I mixed myself) for forever... then I started dripping and found that I LOVE fruit flavors! And I'll always find time for a good vanilla custard!
It's funny how one's own perceptions can screw them over in the end... I could have been vaping tasty juices years ago if I'd only given them a chance!

Wow, lots of replies already! I really appreciate it guys!

Yeah, the longer I let the wicks soak it seems like it's less metallic tasting. But I will keep trying this until tomorrow to get a good idea. I'm pretty sure it was 9-volt flavor I tasted, so it may have been what you guys described as a "dry hit". Also, when I ordered my kit, I also got the tobacco flavor kit that comes with like...5 or 6 different flavors so I will definitely try them all. It also included a free bottle of another flavor that I don't know if I'll try at all since it's more of a menthol flavor I believe. But I also ordered one of their gourmet flavors called "cafe mocha". So I think I have 7 or 8 flavors to try out to give this a good chance at being a success for me. I looked into this for a little while before investing any money into it because I want it to work for me. I will keep in mind what you guys have shared with the "not limiting yourself on flavors" tips. I guess I was thinking that if I chose a tobacco flavor, it would be a good start to transition from smoking regular cigs for so long. Thankfully, this tobacco flavor is way more satisfying than a regular, dry, tasteless, smokey cig provides.

Thanks again guys and I'll give an update later tonight or tomorrow on how things are going so far!

That is too funny. I will have to look further into it but I don't believe we have any "vape shops" near where I live. I found one that is a mall kiosk type that I wanted to avoid. Other than that just a few smoke shops that carry a very limited variety of Blu, and other items. Kind of anxious to try my Cafe Mocha, might have to fill my other tank with it to try out later!!

So, I'm the only one that has tasted 9-volts? Lies!

LOL, The closest thing I can think of is when I first got into rebuildables... The very first coil I wrapped I wrapped around a piece of silica... I cut off the wick, wrapped the wire around the wick, installed it in the base, filled it with juice, popped it on the mod and took my first hit... Damn near choked me to death.. LMFAO... The silica had crap in it that should have been rinsed or boiled out... The wire had manufacturing resins and oils on it... hell even the tank was fresh out of the box from china and had never even been rinsed... Lord knows what I was thinking... LMFAO... All I know is it pretty much tasted like I had went out and bought a brand new toaster, plugged it in and turned it on and tried to inhale all the smoke that came off of it the first time it heated up... followed by licking the wire after it cooled back down... :)

I've learned a lot since those days... :D

Oh, I've licked a 9-volt battery before... just haven't had my vape taste like that... LOL

How do I tell what PG/VG the juices that I currently have are? I am new to all of this lingo, sorry.

I'm not sure what Halo's blend ratio is (I'm sure someone here does, though), but a lot of vendors will either tell you what the ratio is, or you can specify what percentages you want... I usually buy from giantvapes.com lately, and the ratios on a lot of the juices there are listed. I usually get at least 50/50 blends, but sometimes I'll get 80/20 vg/pg... or even 100%VG (though that isn't technically possible as the flavors and what-not tend to dilute the thickness and percentage of the VG down).
