hi! I used to be a cigarette smoker, but got fed up with the side effects of it. So I decided to give vape a chance. I had some of the struggles of the beginner, and I could really use some help where google lacks for it. I started vaping with an aspire k2 and naked100 patriot juice when I walked into a smoke shop, and asked what would help me drop the will to smoke after having a few beers. Right now besides that I have an aspire skystar + revvo, the aspire quad-flex survival aromizer kit, one kanger subvod tc, one extra toptank, a few ceramic coils for it. I have watched quite a few YouTube videos, but there are a few questions to be answered, and I would really appreciate the help of someone who’s been longer on the game.

1- is there a optimal RDA setup I can do to be able to taste different juices to get the closest possible experience of what I would have after filling up the revvo tank with it? Something Like using less wick and a lower wattage or something? I put together the RDA setup on the quad-flex to taste different juices I got but after the 4th juice it got messy. Is there something like using the same coil and be exchanging a shorter wick or something?

2- I am very happy with the performance of the revvo tank, it performs so much better than the kanger toptank, and also I like being able to drag more air compared to the nautilus x tank, but it says that the optimal range would be between 80 to 100, and on my experience anything above 60 will boil too much or taste burnt! Is there something I may be possibly doing wrong?

3- is there any online store I can buy the basic juice supplies to try and do my own juices? I was interested on trying different mixes of pg/vg, maybe full vg

4- after you do some kind of mistake that makes the vape feel really burnt (like for some brief moments pumping 45w on a coil rated up to 22) is the coil gone for good? I mean, It would not perform the same later on?

5- least but not last, the skystar mod has TC options, and I decided (when drunk) to activate it on SS mode, and actually I had great results with the kantal coil that the revvo ARC coil bears, I had consistent good flavor with none of that spitting/boiling after a long press around 320•F. Excited with that, While still drunk, I emailed aspire asking what TC mode I should use for that coil and at what temperature, and later I got the answer was that I should not do it at all... anyone knows the downsides of that little experience of mine? Or maybe I found a good way to use that?

Thanks for everyone that dedicates a few moments to think and answer about that!

1, not in my experience. 2 - ignore the 80-100 if below that. 3 - there is a sub-forum for DIY. 4 - if it is a factory made coil, pretty much yes. The juice in the tank is also messed up if any of the coil juice gets back to it. Usually that happens. 5 - no idea. 6 - no idea.

Good luck!

Kanthal can’t do temp control. I imagine you run the risk of burning your coils in temp control, as the mod can’t really regulate the temp for a kanthal coil. You want nickel, titanium or stainless steel for temp control. You got good results this time due to luck I suppose.

Once you burn out a factory coil, it’s pretty much done.

I don’t know where to buy DIY juice supplies, but plenty people around the forums do. I never got into it. I’m an awful cook as it is, and I can’t imagine I would be any good at mixing juice.

You don’t have to vape at the top ranges of a factory coil. If you like lower then that, then stick to lower.

RDA’s are all pretty much the same in my experience. You’ll want to read up a lot before getting into those though. Familiarize yourself with ohms law, battery safety, different types of wires and wicks...

The Quad-FLex is a 4 in 1 atomizer. (RDTA, RDA, Squonker RDA, and Nautilus X clearomizer) I've never used a device like that, but often when a device is supposed to serve so many different purposes it can't do any of them particularly well. I can't say whether this is true in your case or not.

The RDA portion appears to be a typical run-of-the-mill Velocity-style RDA. I see no reason why this shouldn't work for your purposes. You could use either a single or dual coil with this. Coil(s) should last several weeks if you use "simple coils" and dry burn them clean (you likely will get far less use if using the included pre-built Clapton coils because they gunk up so easy and are not easily cleaned by dry burning in my experience).

You can dry burn your coils when they gunk up or get "messy". Be sure to remove the cotton first.

Re-wick your cotton or Rayon as needed. I typically needed to re-wick every 3 - 4 days when using my RDA full time. You don't necessarily need to re-wick with each flavor change.

I have no knowledge of the Revvo tank or its ARC radial coils. It would have been nice if Aspire offered a resistance higher than 0.1 - 0.16 ohm that wouldn't require so much wattage.

I purchase my nic, Pg, Vg, flavoring agents, and mixing utensils from Bull City Vapor or Wizzard Labs.

You can find recipes in the DIY subforum on ECF, and if you go to E-Liquid Recipes website.

With factory-made, drop in replacement coils for a clearomizer tank, once the wick/coil becomes burnt its ruined. It may also taint the liquid left in the tank, too.

TC can only be used with specific wire: Nickle, Stainless Steel, maybe Titanium (?). You can't use Kanthal in TC.

Hope I was of some help to you. :)

Wow, that's a ton of questions. I will try my hand at ONE, since it's an area I'm sort of good at. For DIY, go to this forum and read some pinned links, as well as taking a look at various vendors. DIY E-Liquid

DIY is more expensive at the start, so I'd suggest trying a bunch of different flavors and from different vendors, if you can, to get a sense of what flavor "profiles" you want to start out with. It's a bit daunting at first but you can start small, and try some different flavors or recipes that appeal to you, and also, some flavor makers sell one shots, which are pretty much concentrates considered "finished" and you can vape them after you shake them. It's a good way to "start" DIY while learning about other flavors. I would make small mixes to start, and I would also say, what worked for me was testers of each flavor, separately, until I had a sense of steep time and also how flavors interact. It can be a slower way to start and there is surely no reason to not just use a recipe. I will say, everyone's "tongue" is different, so sometimes a "recommended" percentage of flavor may be too high, or too low for you and etc. But step one is to have some juices that you LIKE, and work off flavor profiles and what sounds good for you to mix, after reading up on some recipes.

You may or may not need a sweetening agent, and I tend to use mine if at all, very sparingly. Most sweeteners don't need steeping, so you can start at a small percentage, test, etc. I find many commercial juices to be overflavored, oversweetened or harsh or chemical tasting these days. My tastebuds have changed as I started vaping, and I don't need as highly sweetened juices as some, although for sure, it's individual, so you'll have to see what works for you. It's also a lot of fun!

Welcome and glad you joined.
This question would better be asked in:
DIY E-Liquid
It's kind of difficult to start out DIY'g when you are still trying out new equipment and establishing your taste favorites. One shot flavors are starting to gain momentum for those interested in mixing their own and want to start out simple. These Flavors are premixed flavors that are only designed to be used on their own and mixed with a base of Propylene Glycol, Vegetable Glycerin and Nicotine (if desired). You could save some money/time by mixing one shots (OS/Flavor Blends). I found one shot mixing to be close to the flavor promoted on the bottle. These mixes provide some adjustment of the strength (percentage) of flavor. OS Mixing also is a good introductory to DIY. One Shots and Blends are simply added per directions of the seller to a Mixing Base, Shake and Vape (SnV) or steep if desired.
Please do not buy anything until you are ready.

1) An RDA that would taste like a tank I haven't heard of? I'm going to go with no. That's why I have RDAs even though I don't particularly like dripping, to get more flavor out of some liquids.
A tank that tastes more like an RDA seems more likely, although I don't think I've found one of those (maybe close with the Scion II) (I haven't really been looking).

2) If you like it at 60w use it at 60w.

3) Many, Nicotine Giant is where I go, mainly because I liked RTS nicotine so I'm used to the store layout. Ecigexpress is one stop DIY shopping.

4) The wick probably is. It would at least take a lot of vaping to get over that burnt wick flavor.

5) That's just wrong. Makes me question the validity of that mod's TC mode. It should see the cold Ω and apply the wattage until it increases to the corresponding Ω of the temperature you had set to. Since the Ω don't increase it should go with as much power as it can.
Unless you had the w set too low (if it has that option in TC). That's the only valid excuse I can come up with for a mod that won't kick you out of TC if using kanthal or not frying.

First, I have to tank everyone for the great answers so far! I’m impressed with how helpful you guys have been and the quality of the responses, Im not used to have that quality of responses from a forum right out of the bat! :) This week I got some samples from different juice vendors, went to a park and sat on one of those concrete tables (far from the walking lanes not to get a stink eye) with a couple beers and started tinkering with my stuff, and from that the useful things I learned to share with you guys, is 1- counterfeit kanger coils suck hard time (that you guys probably know) and 2- the skystar mod when on TC mode with an inappropriate coil, outputs very low power. With a Ni coil I had it working the way it’s supposed to, bold clouds and no burnt taste. So probably it's a “safe mode” for people acting dumb, because with the huge kantal ARC coil the cloud performance was subpar compared to the Ni coil. And there was a LOTS of gunk on the coil later. That doesn’t happen when using it on watt mode.
