Well Im on day four of not smoking! This is the first time Ive felt like I actually had a chance at success. Im vaping on a joytech evic mini, with 18mg juice that I found from a supplier here in New Zealand. I think my juice levels may be a little high, Im having a hard time working out the settings on this little beast, and I cough!! (a lot)

Anyways, Im a bit of a chatter box, a bit of a rat bag, but a lot of fun. :danger:

Welcome to the forum, Slaya.

New vapers may have some issues with the transition of smoking to vaping. They are not one and the same thing. You probably coughed a lot when you first started smoking, but that eventually went away. You now cough with vaping, but as your body adapts to vaping, that should go away also.

Too much nicotine concentration can indeed cause coughing (and sore throat). Typical nic concentrations for beginner recommendations are:

1/2 pack per day or less = 6 mg nicotine
1 ppd = 12 mg
1 1/2 ppd = 18 mg
2 ppd = 24 mg
Some folks are sensitive to the Pg in e-liquid, which can result in coughing and sore throat. Finding an e-liquid with a higher VG ratio might help.

What juice attachment are you using? If using a sub-ohm attachment (less than 1.0 ohm), nic levels should be dropped to around 3 - 6 mg.

How much power are you dialing in? Too hot or too high of a wattage setting can also cause coughing. Every individual will have their own "sweet spot" in wattage setting. Most beginners start out a lower wattage settings (6 - 10 watts).

yah, depending on the coil you are using (ohm rating), that may be a bit high on the nic level... i started off using 12-18mg nic in a nautilus tank on an ego twist set up, but moved pretty quickly to a sub ohm rig and never looked back - though when I went sub ohm (.5 ohm coils I think were first ones...) I had to cut nic level in half - made me not only cough, but a bit loopier than my baseline, lol... (though, i do keep a bottle of 9mg nic around for the ol wakey wakey...) I actually tend to vape 3mg nic now, especially since i am 1) using some lower ohm builds (.2-.25 range) on some tanks that will CHUCK some vapor and on my drippers and 2) i tend to like the vaping - enough that i vape a good bit and 3)i started to DIY my own juice and have plenty to vape...

trick here is simply finding what works best for YOU - keep in mind , you will get loads of advice and lots of suggestions, but keep your eyes on the prize (and that is, succinctly put, what works best for YOU)

:)

Welcome my friend. I hope yo do not use a sub-ohm coil (Meaning less than 1 ohm) If so change to a 1.5 -1.8 ohm coil and you will be happy. On the other hand if you can not increase the ohm than use the nicotine no higher than 6 mg/ml (You can dilute the liquid by adding vegetable glycerin (VG) if you add 1 unit VG to 1 Unit 18 mg/ml you get a 9mg/ml liquid.
In fact when I began 3 years ago I always diluted the liquids according to my pleasure. So I still dont know how strong my liquids were/are now and than :)

So I went shopping, always trouble... and ended up coming home with a Kanger Subtank nano.. put it on my evic mini.. snap crackel pop! Im really confused by these settings. It wont let me change the temp on it like it would with the ego mega tank. Im guessing I upped from the .5 of the ego tank, to a 1.5 on the kanger.. Its it normal for this tank to make so much noise? I picked up some 12mg juice too. It seems to not be as harsh. Thank you all for your comments! :thumb:

18mg seems high to me. I was a 2 PAD smoker and when I quit I went to 12mg. Quickly found that to be too harsh and cut it back to 6mg.
I started out at 36 mg from a pack and a few more cigs a day on an ego style. Now doing 18 to 24 my on a nautilus mini, at 8w, 3 ml a day. Nic levels needed to satisfy you coming off cigs is highly dependent on the individual, power you vape at, and how much juice you vape a day. Subohming at higher power requires less Nic but you vape more juice than tootle puffers on 1.2 to 1.8 ohm coils on a tank at 8 to 12w.

What power level? I bought some of those 1.5 ohm horizontal coils for the subtank mini hat they were terrible, harsh and nasty, totally unvapable and I had them well primed. The vertical cotton 1.2 ohm coils were very good I suggest you try those :) and you need to be running in power mode with the non temp control coils.

Hi & Welcome,
I smoked for 40 years. I quit the day I started vaping. I was hard, no it was very hard. I made up my mind no matter what I would never smoke again. By the way what is a Rat Bag? Please explain! Good Luck You CAN do this!
A ratbag is a trouble maker, someone who likes to tease a bit. Harmless, but a bit cheeky.
