Hello folks, obviously a new guy here! My name's Rob, from Canada, and very new to vaping. Unlike most (I assume), I'm not actually trying to quit smoking with vaping. In fact, next month will be a year since I quit smoking. I've tried a few vapes before, but never purchased myself a good one.

I basically want to get into vaping because I loved the flavors the few times I tried them, they were 0 nic juices, and the two thing I still have problems with since I quit are keeping my hands busy and I tend to chew on things (pens, pencils, straws, my stylus for my tablet). Considering just how bad that is for my teeth, vaping is absolutely a better way to go there lol. I plan to purchase my first real starter kit in the next month or so, and this time is an extra research period, I suppose.

Have a good one.

Hello and welcome to the forum Arobee. Glad to have you here!:)

If you are looking for new setup here are some possible options for you to consider/research:

A variable v/w (twist/spinner) battery is usually recommended over a "non variable v/w" battery. It allows you to adjust your settings to get a better "vape". Some flavors taste better at higher voltages than 3.7v

1. JoyeTech Ego-C Twist
2. Vision Spinner
3. Innokin iTaste vv v3
4. Innokin iTaste MVP v2

The first 3 are fall into the "ego style" category of battery (with variable voltage). They range in size from 600mah to 1300mah. The higher the mah the longer the battery will last between charging. The 4th one is a step up from an "ego style" battery in that it is a smaller variable v/w box mod with a very big battery (2600mah). It will last many vapers a whole day before it needs recharging. It is probably one of the most popular batteries for someone upgrading from an "ego style" battery.

I suggest buying only name brand Joyetech Twist or Vision Spinner ego batteries. BTW, "ego" is merely a type of battery, not a brand name. Buying "generic" ego batteries is always going to be hit or miss...mostly miss.

You will need to purchase a tank with the first three on the above list. The mini Nautillus, mini Aerotank or regular size Aerotank (all made of glass & all have adjustable airflow control) are very popular. The MVP Kit comes with a tank but it is not glass.

Why would you want a glass tank (you may be thinking to yourself)? Here is a great resource regarding "tank cracking" eliquid by ECF member Baditude: Something Safe for Cinnamon and Citrus Flavors

Thanks for the bit of info, and the link there.

So far, I'm actually looking at either an iTaste MVP v2 or an iTaste SVD kit. I'm not sure yet if I want a tank with a top coil, a bottom coil, or if I want to drip. I don't know if there's a way to determine which would be best for me to start with without trying and actively comparing them, but hey, part of being new haha.

personal preference

top coil is closer to your lips (heat)
you need to do the "Harry Potter' swirl to keep the wicks wet
where as the bottom coil is always gravity fed

bottom coil in farther away from your lips (cooler)

I say the mini Naut + MVP

because SO MANY PEOPLE have it and give that set up HIGH MARKS

majority is typically correct

Welcome Arobee!

If you do tend toward the Nautilus (really, any topper), do make sure your coil/wick is very-well primed (i.e. has had a fair amount of time to let the juice soak into the coil/wicking material) before you take that first hit. Also, start it low and nudge your way up over a few draws. You will be more likely to avoid the dreaded "burnt hit" (i.e. shag-nasty taste)

Good luck in your search. It's quite the ride :)

And, if you ever need help spending your money, just let us know. We're *always* glad to help you spend your hard-earned cash :D

Hahaha sounds good to me.

When you say start low and nudge my way up over a few draws, I assume you're referring to the voltage/wattage? I understand you can find a table to give you a good starting points based on your ohms. Is it that beneficial, or is it better to play with it yourself to find what you personally like most?

Typical rule of them is start your voltage at about 2V + your resistance of your coil. If you have a 2ohm coil, start about 4V. W=V^2/R would get you 8W = 4^2/2. So that can be a decent starting point. Nudge up from there until it maybe starts to burn a bit. Then back it off.

Most of my coils (BVCs in the Nautis or my rebuilt PT2 coils) are all about 1.8ohms. I run about 9W on my PT2s and 10-11W on the Nautis. That's *my* preference. Also depends on the juice - darker juices, I run a little lower because the coil gunks a little more quickly. YMMV

Welcome to the forums Arobee!! I would also suggest the MVP 2 and mini Nautilus tank. The battery life is excellent!!! Running mine at about 8-9 watts would last me a good 2 and a half days before needing a charge. As far as tube goes, I have no clue. My only tube style is the vision II spinner and that is only variable voltage ( vv ). It took the MVP to finally get me to learn about the vv because of the wattage mode on the MVP. With wattage, you set it to what ever you want and if your coil needs a boost or decrease in voltage to achieve the watts, it will do it on its own.

Thank ya! I'm definitely going for the MVP v2 and a mini Nautilus after reading and watching reviews. How's the charge time on it? Just curious because that's a hefty battery there haha. Oh, and my main reason for asking about a tube is just for a second piece, a little variety, ya know?

Oh damn, puf to the rescue once again! You're the man, thank you :)
