Hah ! Got a mug of coffee opened the box sat and watched for an hour and found the culprit....My Video card fan. Reset it back to default clock setup and it quit. Got a tpf on gpu of 17mins and cpu of 6-7mins now.

Well like any fan, they can fail. I'd clean it free of dust first and see if that helps at all before calling it a total loss.

I'm kinda happy, this is going much better than it did when I hooked into the SETI FAH, I got almost a 100 WU's and 'nother week if all goes well a whole 300,000 points. Like to see Team ECF Move UP !
And it's one of the few things I can contribute to broke and disabled.
Wish it was still the days when I had five or six boxes up all the time...

That's what I did Natey, pretty sure that the gpu core 17 needs some cpu help, at least on my old machine.

Good to hear Timi!

Sashwa is creeping mighty close to the 3 mil mark :)

Timi, I feel the same way. I don't have extra cash to contribute to charities, but this is something I can happily do :)

I remember you discovering that too Dusther. We had a conversation a few pages back about whether or not the gpu 17 core needed one free cpu to work most efficiently. My unofficial answer is at least in my case, yes it does. Apparently in your case too.

Well, its not about how many, its about the processing power. I mean, I only have two clients running, and even if I killed the second one, you wouldn't notice much of a difference.

Say Bov you said you have a quad core right? Why not try going into your slot settings and change the smp options from -1 to 2 save it and let it rip for a while and see what happens. I have my 650ti card in my i7 pc which is a quad core with hyper-threading so it acts like 8 cores. Ive tried disabling the smp slot for a while and it only increased my gpu by about 12~15 sec on 8900 wu. Not much difference. I am trying right now with a smp setting of 6 (instead of -1 which gave me a smp:8 slot) with the same gpu result except it isnt maxing out all the cores.
Might get you a few more ppd without taking away from your gpu slot ;)

I may try that when the weather cools down Harmonic. IIR I was only adding a couple thousand to my PPD when I was running 2 cores...hardly worth the heat worries :)

Timi, I am well acquainted with being broke lol! My cpu is an old Intel Core 2 Extreme Q6800 @ 2.93GHz. It was the shiz when I first built this rig. Now, not so much  If it weren't for my 650ti card, I would be putting out squat, and it took me 3 months to pinch enough out of my budget to buy it.

Congratz Sashwa on the 3mil mark!!

I have the expert settings on GPU and CPU except for the -1 stuff, could you elaborate on upping which one slightly to see what happens?

PS since april now, no team ecf banner...

Its not upping a a setting. In the smp slot it tells the client how many cores to use. In the gpu slot it tells it which graphics card to use if you have several in one pc. Normally you want it set to -1 which lets the program decide what to do but with the cpu slot you can change this to use less of the cpu. For instance in Bov's computer it is a quad core so the -1 setting would give you a smp:4 slot and use all of the cpu but she needs one of the cores available for the gpu 17 core. By changing the "-1" to a "2" it will tell the smp slot to only use 2 of the cpu cores (it must be set in multiples of 2) which would then leave 2 available - one of which would then be free for the gpu slot. On my i7 pc the i7 chip runs as 8 cores so I set mine to "6" which then leaves 2 open - one of which is then available for the gpu 17 core. Its not really making much difference on the i7 pc though. But if you watch the cpu usage with say task manager or such it will still use all of the cpu cores but they are throttled back a little bit so the total cpu usage is equal to what the total of the 6 cores would be instead of maxing them all out.
On certain computers like Bov and Dusther have it could make a big difference in performance when running both the smp and gpu slots at the same time.
Get it?

I think so, mine is an I7 so if I enter 6 instead of -1; six of the 8 cores will be dedicated to folding ?

That's how I had so many boxes, I kept one built to bleeding edge tech and the other five got hand-me down parts out of number 1. I also waited for clearance/closeout prices for the stuff I wasn't pulling from my favorite :- )
