After 20 years with analog and couple times struggling to quit. I now decide again to quit and go with e-cigarette. I have read all the threads in the forum but got lost and don't know how to start?
Please help, my goal just want to quit but also don't want to be addicted with e-cigarette also. I need the e-cigarette package to try instead to use the nicotine patches.
Thanks

hi locky

welcome..

I would suggest to you the EGO kit from cignot
Cignot your Midwest Electronic Cigarette store.

this is a 510 type atomizer and comes with everything you need to start and will get you off cigs for good..

I would also suggest a boolte of eliquid that they sell also. Just pick what you might like,

It is a lot cheaper than cigs and after initial cost youre good to go,,

I would start with a 510 ...

510 Manual Battery Kit (Black), no Box

I hear good things about this company and they give a bottle of juice with your kit however I have not ordered from them.

I started with a 808 but wish after trying my moms 510 that I had started with that. A few suppliers are selling the cartomizers for them now and it seems many mods also use the 510 atomizers etc.

start with 24mg. I did and was able to cut back to 18... take it slow. I used the patch and it was not effective for me.. Gave me bad dreams and made me feel weird. I smoked for 21 years and I can say that cigarettes no longer appeal to me at all. Try it and don't be too hard on yourself if you can't kick the habit immediately.

Depending on how much you want to spend, I suggest you start with a Joye 510 kit or an eGo kit from Cignot.

Cignot your Midwest Electronic Cigarette store.

You should also purchase some liquid either from Cignot or one of the other providers. My Freedom Smokes and Tasty Vapor have a variety of really good flavors.

How much you smoke per day will make a difference on the concentration of nicotine you need in the liquid. For example, I smoked 1 pack per day of Marlboro Ultra Light 100's. After sampling liquid strengths, I discovered that 24mg/ml in the morning and 18mg/ml the rest of the day kept me off cigs. Over time you may find that you need less nicotine. (I am down to 6-8 mg/ml)

There is a learning curve to using an ecig so do not become discouraged if you still need a cig for at the first few days/weeks/months.

Check this one out too:

Starter Kits - FULLY CUSTOMISABLE M40x STARTER KITS (PLUS ACCESSORIES) - Electronic Cigarette | Electronic Cigarettes | E-Cigarettes | E-Cigs from Smoore

I'm not a 510 fan and would recommend the above M40x instead. Its fully customisable, depending on whether you want your batteries auto or manual and whether you want them 108mm,96mm or 85mm. You also get to select some nice accessories at discounted prices. I recommend getting them (as much atties as possible, Passthru and PCC).

I agree with zenfrogs, everyone always tells new people to start out with a 510. Now that there are 510 cartomizers you don't have to worry about not being told about the 808.

The EGO is a great model, but for someone just starting out better to try something cheaper to see if you like it or not.

But please keep in mind that most of the pre-filled cartomizers out there have really crappy flavor, (in my opinion) and it would be better to get blank ones and fill them up yourself.

Hi Locky and welcome to the forum!!!

Hopefully, you will get a lot of advice and pointers on what to get,how to go about it and so on.

Being a 2 pack a day Camel Turkish Golds or Marlboro Reds and a smoker for 22+ years, I too, was ready to quit, but quickly became overwhelmed by all the information here.

You need to ask yourself some questions. Do you want an ecig that simulates smoking? Looks like a cig? How much are you willing to spend? How committed are you to quitting smoking? What are your expectations?

When I started, I didn't want to spend a lot of $$$$ in case vapping wasn't for me. I wanted something that simulated smoking - the taste of the vapor, the look of a cig. I DID NOT EXPECT TO QUIT ASAP. So I needed something that was easy to learn.

Most people recommended a DSE901 kit or a 510 kit. A 901 produces a warm vapor, much like cigarette smoke. 510's run a little cooler. Both simulate the smoking experience.

Next, nicotine level. How much do you smoke? What brand? For a heavy smoker like me, the recommendation was 24mg nic. A light smoker would be good at 18mg to 12mg.

Are you at the computer a lot? If so, get a USB passthrough and a 5volt plug in adapter. You can vape at the computer to your hearts content without changing out batteries.

For around $100, I purchased 2 DSE901 kits from HealthCabin (2 atty's, 2 batts, charger, carts of different nic strength, per kit). I also ordered 4 extra batts, 4 extra atty's, and some nic juice.

****You don't have to order from China. There are some excellent deals from different vendors on starter kits in the suppliers forum*********

It took me a week to quit smoking - mainly because I was too stubborn to believe it was that easy. First day, only 4 cigs from 2 packs a day.

So - if you're not quite sure, get 2 kits - either a 901 or 510, some extra batts, atty's and a passthrough. When you've quit smoking, slowly start lowering your doseage of nicotine down to 0 nic. Then taper down on vapping until you can walk away from that.

If you find that you enjoy vapping, then that's another post!!!:D

Keep posting any ?'s or concerns. The forum has a lot of supportive members. And best of luck!!

Go with the manual. It's way better. However, I have no idea how long it takes to quit using e-cigs. I don't really plan on quiting them. I like it better than smoking and so does my body. I guess if you want to quit completely you can always work your way down from high nic to low nic and then give it up. I started out chain vaping and now I won't have a vape untill afternoon most often. Heck, I have taken a two hour drive and didn't even realize I didn't have my e-cig on me. I could never have done that with cigs.

Sure, I am certainly not a vaping expert, but the 510 seems like it could really just confuse and discourage a newbie vaper. After reading these forums for about 2 weeks before ordering, I am SO HAPPY that I did not choose this as my first device.

For sheer ease of use, and an incredibly low initial cost, you just can't beat the kr808d-1. Cigeasy will sell you a kit with 1 or 2 batteries, chargers and 7 cartomizers and 10ml juice of your choice for $29.95-$39.95 depending on your choices, and shipped for $6. Great deal!

I got mine two days after ordering, and I was vaping literally one minute after opening the box, and loving it. Look at the insane number of newbie posts from people who just can't seem to get their 510 to work right -- then go with the device that is idiot proof.

I too did not care for the 510, most recommend it because it's cheaper to "see if ya like it"and you get what you pay for. I use an eGo with cartomizers but the KR808 suggestions are good too for starting out. You can purchase a 808 with a charging case and some cartomizers and you're good to go.

Litecigusa = 808kit with pcc, $31.95

or cignot = 510 starter kit, and then when your 510 batteries blow out, purchase the ego battery and use your 510 attys, carts, etc. with it.

ego will not fit into your 510 pcc, but you can use 510 charger for ego with adaptor

or Heck, just get the ego starter kit

Switching to the ecigarette will not help you cure your nicotine addiction right away, tho it may in the longrun as you reduce your nicotine intake.

I quit sucessfully for 3 years using the patch/gum but I have no desire to quit ecigs. Ecigs, and some may disagree with this, are not really a "quit" method. You are just subsituting one method for another.

Words of wisdom: Do not spend more than $50 on your first order. Then force yourself to wait at least two weeks before purchasing everything else. Believe me, many of us have spent way, way too much on useless equipment because of the excitement and some of those purchases I really regret.

Strictlyejuice.com will sell you sample juice sizes for @$3 to try out different flavors.

I was happy with a 510 to start with - hell Im still using it cos its good - but Kirss gives a good idea to go with an ego - the battery life is better - and an ego is a 510 basically - just with a bigger battery lol
I must disagree with the poster who said the 510 might confuse a newbie - I wasn't confused and I'm no gadget genius :D The only thing that stumped me was how to attach the cart - as my unit is all black and it was hard to see the join where the shipping cart (empty cart that comes with the unit) is attached to the atty. Still it only took me a few minutes of confusion before I attached the pre-filled cart and started vaping.
The KR8 (also known as 808) is another good starter unit though, if you prefer a 2 piece - I only don't recommend it as I haven't personally tried it and can only go by what others have said. It popular though, like the 510, and often things are popular for a reason :)
From your OP, it seemed that you were saying you wanted a PV to vape (with I guess 0 nic liquid) whilst using a patch; that seems overly complicated to my mind. The patches also seem to contain a LOT of nicotine, if memory serves. I do remember feeling very ill when I had one years ago. I've never felt that ill using a PV where i have total control over the amount of nic I use. With a PV you can also vary the amount of nic you have during the day, perhaps more in morning and less later at night. You can also reduce it to zero eventually, if that's what you want to do, over time in a safe and controlled manner. The point is that you have TOTAL CONTROL and its simple.
Good luck with your purchase whatever you decide to get :)
If you haven't already read it, go see the ECF Library thread and read ' Don Daboomvape's guide to ecigs' - theres 6 parts but its not walls of text; easy reading and very informative!

Hi Locky. Like I said the 808 is cheap, and easy to use. You screw on the cartridge of juice (the nicotine liquid), draw on it very much like a cig, and you get a toot of nicotine. That's it. Once your cartriomiser is dry, throw it away, and put on another. Battery life too is great, and better than standard 510.

The cartomiser's are refillable if you want. They can be refilled again and again, but will fail sooner or later. As far as how long that starter kit will last you, it depends on how much you vape. I got 10ml of juice and 12 cartomisers nearly a month ago, and still have seven cartomisers left. The other 5 I've been refilling. So, maybe a month, maybe more before the consumables (juice and cartomisers) are gone. I figure these will cost me about $20 per month, which saves me about $140 per month by not buying cigs.

VapoMonkey - That video is was fun. It is always entertaining to see the mods that people come up with so that the 510 actually works right. That's kind of my point though. I don't want to have to do this so I can enjoy a good vape! I don't want to be cutting springs, or tea bags, or blue foam. I don't want to "blow out attys", soak in vodka, or whatever. I want something EASY, very much like smoking, not a diy fix er upper type of thing. NO OFFENSE. Some people really like a 510, and that's great, but there are some really GOOD reasons to not start with that one.

You can just throw them away, they are cheap enough, but I've been refilling them. The 10ml is used to refill the cartomisers, and it's pretty easy. The good thing is that if you don't want to refill, you don't have to. Just screw one on, use it up, throw it out. Refilling just adds to the money you save because the juice is pretty cheap.

As far as flavors go, it's a very personal preference I think. I used to smoke marlboro lights, and really liked the marlboro juice I got from cigeasy. Nice flavor, a little sweet. I also tried flue cured, and this was not my thing. Too much like a campfire, and not enough like a cig. Surprisingly, I am now leaning towards sweeter juices. Got ahold of some coffee, and ry4, and I am enjoying these. I'm really enjoying the clove from Vermont Vapor!

Welcome! I'm going to say on behalf of the whole forum (like so many have said before) that it's great you want to quit smoking. I really believe the e-cigarette might help you. A lot have already said that they suggest a 510 starter kit, and I agree. A 510 is a good solid, reliable device. The batteries kind of suck (in terms of charge life) but you can always go with a mod (modification) that takes bigger batteries. I don't know whether you want something that looks and feels like a real cigarette or not, but if you do, this is usually temporary and that look/feel fixation goes away (most of the time, not saying it's a fact) I'm a beginner myself and have found tons of wonderful information on this forum and it's a great thing that you came here before purchasing. A lot of ECF members (including myself) have made the mistake of not asking for help or doing research before purchasing their first e-cigarette. The 510 is a great beginner device. The atomizers are wonderful I like them a lot. I hope everything works out for you! I would suggest in MY personal opinion that you buy your starter kit from http://E-smokeytreats.com they are a great company and customer service is A+++++ and also shipping from coast to coast takes 3 days max most of the time. You will want to buy liquid (the stuff that contains the nicotine and makes the vapor) to have on hand in case you don't like pre-filled cartriges. I'm sure you will find lots of help here and of course this is only my personal opinion. Good luck!
