Yes, I am searching - what is the bestest cleaning meathod on equipment? Is there any sacrificial small, furry animal requirements?

The story is that I received a new kayfun. Washed very well with liquid dish soap and toothbrush.
Made my first coil, with the last of some wire - horrible job, came in at 3.0Ω (getting new wire in a few days), it is unusable, with a very bad, metallic taste. No shorts, coil is raised off deck. There is also a metallic smell if you put your nose to the outside.
I plan on boiling the unit for 10-15 minutes, and cleaning before and after with alcohol & soap. I hope that the CLS inside isn't ruined and can be saved.

Will this work, and/or is there a better way to fix this???

BTW - this is the black kayfun 3.1+ that is on ebay (great seller and build quality), and haven't seen this issue posted

Yes I torched wire with a butane torch, fired it on unit to get coils close/neater.
28 gauge kanthal, with organic cotton wick used enough to get to the first ledge of the base. This is how most videos suggest, no dry hits. Probably 10-12 wraps
On a SVD, varied wattage, bad taste always present 3-5 volts

Good suggestions in this thread. I've used both an overnight soak in pure grain alcohol (Everclear) and an 8 minute session in my ultrasonic to successfully get that nasty machine oil taste out of new devices.

I've noticed it more with clones than with genuines, but it only took one time with that nasty taste (back in my EVODs from Fasttech days) and now I clean everything, clone or no, because I don't want to ruin a juice with that crap ever again! Which method I use just really depends on how soon I plan to use the device, ultrasonic being quicker but just as effective as the overnight PGA soak.

I ended up boiling last night for 15-20 minutes. It took care of 99% of the issue. I also see that it looks as if there was a coating on the whole thing.
I was able to vape on it for 20 minutes - coil was not great, but some serious inhales. I will definately need to drop the nic level with this one.
My buddy brought me in some 32 guage wire and some ekowool wick, so I will be doing the clean/boil/clean and then try my luck again.
Thanks All

I recall someone mentioning a "cleaning solution" for REO Grands that might work well for other devices also? I never did find it buried in ECF though - anyone have a link to a thread or post? I'd like to clean out the Green Monster and see if I can dedicate a single flavor to it... (gives me a good excuse to buy another REO, right?) HAHA

Lol Kent, i'm always looking for new ways to convince myself I need another REO, and my GF for that matter.
Amen!

Addiction, I've found the best methods to be a HOT dawn wash/ scrubbing and then a PGA/ CHEAPO vodka soak.... I'm like Cherie, I routinely do this with all new equipment now (even genuine stuff.... bought my buddy an Aerotank for his birthday and cleaned it to be sure he wouldn't have a bad funk)

Never thought about the UC though... sometimes, I R a Derp.

Exactly this, +1. Nothing else, separately, really worked.

Sent from my LG G2, using Smack-a-talk HD.

I did one of my new Nautilus tanks in the Ultrasonic yesterday instead of the PGA soak. I should mention that I also use a powdered soap for use in the Ultrasonic, and I keep the heater on the whole time too.

The Nautilus may have been fine without the pre-wash since I haven't heard others complain about it, but I wasn't gonna chance it.

Man, I really want to get that cleaner. Sounds like it does a great job on things.
I just saw that in the latest Harbor Freight mailing they have a coupon for it - $74.99. Plus, there is the 25% off coupon on the front...out the door for $60.00 is a very nice price. Too bad my vape budget is over spent this month.

Do you like the Nautilus as much as you thought you would?
